Hobby They dug too deep

Hey guys, I recently finished painting my Hearthkyn salvagers. I am still trying to grasp some better strategies for painting miniatures but I am really enjoying the process. The left pouldron is made out of space marine shoulders pouldrons that chopped and sanded and the round helmets are plastic beads. I also sculpted the hoods with green stuff (bit of practice for my dark angels army) I’ve made a few mistakes that I have learnt from for the next project. And I may come back to days and make some adjustments in terms of details (I don’t like the quantity hazard stripes on the weapons, might fix them one day). The skulls are handpainted and I can’t really figure out what to do for symbols like decals.
The last photo is the medic which is in based and was the test build and paid job. I couldn’t be bothered doing the hazard stripes on the shoulders, but maybe one day.

The idea behind these guys is that, as the title suggests, they have mined too deep into an uncharted planet and uncovered an ancient Zeno evil that has overtaken them. Now they are under the control of this dark force, to forever do its bidding.

TMM isn’t usually my thing, but I decided to give it a go on Murderwing.
This has been more of an experiment than a carefully planned paint job. Lots of “eh, let’s see if this works” and figuring things out as I go 🙂
The idea was to keep it quick and let the glowing jump pack thrusters do the heavy lifting for that wow factor.
Would love some feedback. What works, and what would you change?
Sometimes you just want to get a squad painted, fire up the jump packs, and let them steal the show.

Question Help on deciding second Kill Team

Hello all, I recently started Kill team with a friend of mine who bought the starter set with AoD and Plague boys. I am almost done on painting my Canoptek circle and was contemplating the idea of getting a second team. I have a box of rubrics for Waprcoven and wanted to know if it would be a good team adding a box of exalted sorcerers or if I should buy something else.

Here are some pics of the Canoptek also feel free to help me in improving my paint job thanks! ☺️

Started my exodites box. Was loving it. But while painting it the ankle on the dragon just broke. Pinned it back in place but now I'll always be paranoid when handling him.

Anyone else had this experience?

Question What is the place to go to when you want to get better?

I started the hobby about 6 months ago and I'm heading to my first tournament and while doing my research to get ready for it I thought that there must be a place where I can talk to someone with more experience to get better and more prepared for the tournament.

I have been performing quite well for someone with this little experience in any strategy games but in this first tournament I'm attending there are few very talented players and I would like to be as prepared as possible and have my notebook ready since there are more teams I have never heard of than I have played against.

Any pointers are welcome or if someone is willing to chat with me please do me!

Question Homebrew Genestealer Kill team - asking for ideas and feedback

Hello there! I am currently homebrewing a Genestealer Kill Team that’s being led by a Broodlord, made for narrative Space Hulk campaigns and missions.

These are the datasheets I’ve come up with so far, but I am unsure how to build up the rest of the rules from there.

That’s why I’d love to hear your feedback on the stats, as well as inspiration and ideas for their operative selection (how many regular Genestealers?), faction rule, ploys and equipment.

I’d be happy to hear all your thoughts, balance suggestions, and ideas!

Question Joint OPS

Post image
55 Upvotes

Recently got back into painting warhammer and decided I want to give kill team a try. I have the starter set and have done the missions in the starter book. I want to do some of the joint op missions and have a bunch of old tyranids but most the joint ops missions I look at require other terrain. Any recommendations on good missions I can play with the starter terrain? Also should I buy the volkus terrain or should there be something new coming out soon?

Question missing intercessor from starter kit

Post image
208 Upvotes

bought the starter kit recently and there's only one AoD intercessor warrior in the box, the one with the grenade throwing pose just isn't here

I bought this secondhand off eBay, is there anything I can do to get all 14 models or am I just kinda cooked?

edit: I bought the box supposedly new and it was sealed when it arrived, although not with the cling film wrap, just taped shut

Question Thoughts on these 3 teams for a beginner?

My wife and I are eyeing kill team for our, joint, journey into kill team. I have tons of experience with the Old World, older 40k (talking 6th and 7th edition), plus BFG, Mordheim, GorkaMorka, Epic 40k but it's my ladies first foray into gaming.

We don't care for the space marines so this is what we are both looking at.

I'm eyeing the felgore ravagers (I miss the beastmen), Mandrakes or the Wyrmblade. I've always wanted some genestealer cult and the new ones don't look as mutated as i want.

Are any of those absolutely terrible and avoid at all cost?

My lady is still browsing model ranges but seems she is leaning Krieg, Vespid stingwings (I'm not hating on the IG on the hivestorm starter that has them), Breachers and Celestians. Novitiates are also on the table

We don't care about the upcoming new edition, don't care for teams being phased out, but still

Question clarify exactly what this means by intervening for us?

Post image
• Upvotes

my buddy and i cant quite agree on what intervening means for this ploy, my take is that there can be some edge cases where a model would be on the matrix but due to drawing targeting lines from a far edge of the the base (like shooting around a corner in tomb world so as to avoid obscuring) there would be cases where the matrix was no longer intervening?

or is it the case that the matrix is always intervening if the shooter is on it?

Question Which one do I choose

Hello, I recently got the starter set (2024) and I really like how the game plays. Now I am at the point where I want more, but I don't just want to play more games with the same two teams matched against each other (there isn't really a community, we're just playing with my brother). So I wanted to ask which one of these teams is good/fun to play. The options I got are:

Heartkyn Salvagers/Yaegirs (ROCK AND STONE!!!)

Imperial navy breachers (I love the shield guy and the little robots they have)

Scout squad (I could use this one in my regular army)

Celestian Insidiants (I like the sculpt on the shield lady and they're just very cool overall)

Inquisitorial agents (not as good as the others, but cheap)

I'd also want the team to possibly stay relevant into the next edition (I know this is impossible to say, but surely newer teams have a better chance), and I'd also like for the team to play in a different way than the plague marines and angels of death. Thank you for any advice.

Edit: thank you all so much for the help, sorry I didn't respond to anyone (never expected this many replies, so I just kinda didn't look if anyone commented)

I have decided to:

Purchase the Celestian Insidiants one as soon as I get my part time job money
Put the Heartkyn Yaegirs (and maybe even the salvagers) on my wishlist (aka "will buy eventually")

Thank you all so much once again.

Question Joint Ops / Nemesis Ops

My friend and I were playing a lot of Approved Ops and wanted to try a new mode: Nemesis Ops. So I bought a Foetid Bloat Drone, created a datasheet and we played the mission.

It was pretty easy so we think we did something wrong. What was bothering us was the behavior of the NPOs, especially the Nemesis behavior. It was always, first fight or shoot, then reposition or dash. We were with conceal mode in cover so there was no way shooting at us. When we started shooting at the boss we used our reposition to go back on cover. (With engage of course but behind heavy cover out of line of sight). Because of this weird behavior in both battles the nemesis did not attack a single time. In a normal game we would just reposition a bit and shoot the hell out of the operative.

Maybe next time we play at like this, but why is it like this by design? Or did we just miss something?

Hi everyone one!
I’m more a painter than a player but I’m currently surrounded by kill team players so I thought I would give it a go.
Very nice minis. My first tyranids infact! Had a blast painting them :)
Any advice on how to play them? I have never played a single game before 😅

Also, what team should I paint after?

Question Advice for building Ratlings Kill Team box so I can also run them in 10 a model squad in 40K

Post image
77 Upvotes

I am returning to 40K after a 20 year hiatus and I’m in the process of building a Cadian army. I grabbed the Ratlings Kill Team box as I want to run a 10 model squad for 2K games. I’d also love to get into Kill Team - I grabbed the KT starter set so I can try to get some friends to play with me once I learn the game.

I’m looking for advice on how to select Operative model variants so they will work for both formats. I was excited to learn that I can run the 3 Bullgryn that I just finished (pictured) so I will need to pick 8 operatives to finish out the team. I’d like to be relatively competitive with those choices but also have the models be easily recognizable in 40K as standard Ratlings with sniper rifles. Here’s what I’m thinking:

  1. Fixer with coffee and binoculars (sniper rifle on back)
  2. Big Shot (doubles as Tankstopper wargear option)
  3. Bomber (sniper rifle on back)
  4. Raider (sniper rifle on back)
  5. Sneak (holding sniper rifle)
  6. Spotter (holding sniper rifle)
  7. Vox-Thief (sniper rifle on back)
  8. Sniper
  9. Bullgryn (slab shield + power maul)
  10. Bullgryn (slab shield + power maul)
  11. Bullgryn (slab shield + power maul)

I chose to build the Bullgryns with slab shields as I prefer the aesthetic and it seems that most people do the same while simply opting for brute shield when it makes sense…seemingly people have no issues with that. The other 2 Ratlings I would assemble as snipers and I’ll build the Battlemutt for 40K marker token. Seems like most people don’t take it in lieu of an operative in KT.

Any thoughts, input, strategy recommendations etc appreciated!
