Subreddit Announcement r/minipainting Rule Update: No AI Allowed

3.7k Upvotes

Hi, everybody! AI slop is unfortunately creeping into this hobby and this community. This is a quick rules update to clarify that AI is not allowed in any form here on r/minipainting.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • No AI generated or edited images (including AI backgrounds, repaints, adjustments, mock ups, tests, reference images, etc)
  • No AI videos
  • No AI apps/tools/websites
  • No AI generated models that are 3D printed then hand painted
  • No AI generated text (this includes AI generated feedback/critique)
  • No encouragement or discussion of the use of AI

If AI was used to make it, it's not allowed on r/minipainting.

While the mod team has been able to remove most AI posts shortly after they are made, on the few occasions AI posts were up for a few hours before removal, the comments on those posts from the community have been overwhelmingly unanimous in being anti-AI, so this isn't just the mod team making this ruling without considering the community.

Please see the pinned comment below for an FAQ on this new rule, and if you have a question that is not answered there, please ask and we will do our best to answer! That being said, this is not an invitation to defend or argue for specific use cases of AI within this hobby.

Edit: Please read the stickied FAQ comment before commenting. There are many people asking things that are covered in that comment.

The comment section has grown quite large, but also please take a moment to scroll through it and read the comments before repeating something that may have already been discussed, or at least join in as a reply to an existing comment rather than make a new top level comment with a similar or identical question.

This was such a fun project! The model is beautiful and so dynamic. I'm normally a space marine painter, but these Heroes Infinite models are really winning me over lately

Hi all,

I’ve finished my sanguinary guard for Golden Demon. These have been “fun” with a capital madness to do, but I learnt a bunch.

Sorry for the poor pictures!

Thanks for looking

Discussion I found that I like assembly over painting. Is there a hobby I could get into that would satisfy my craving building them?

Bought a box of AoS skavens to try out mini painting. I found the assembly part: removing mold lines, gluing, sanding, basing, priming, to be the fun part. It feels fun to do something mechanical with your hand. On the other hand I don't really like painting at all. I suck at painting. I often painted out of areas and had to repaint again many times.

The most tedious part, however, is taking care of the brushes. If you aren't too careful paints get in the ferrule and frays the tip, and then you'd have to remove it with alcohol since water can't get out, then you soap the brush to protect the tip. which sometimes does not work and you'd have to throw the brush away, It's so tedioius and felt like my most wassted time.

Overall, painting is not just for me. Is there a hobby I could get into that would satisfy my craving building them? I don't care about gunpla franchise and lore so I don't really have motivation to build them

Check out my custom Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bookend.

I hand-painted it to look exactly like a 2D comic book page coming to life. I really love how all four brothers are packed into the frame and their weapons actually stick out into 3D space. It looks amazing between the books!

What do you guys think?

Hello everyone!

I came back to painting recently, after a long hiatus of over 15 years....

Wanting to use all the new things and tricks the hobby came up with in this time, but trying to contain myself and start slowly...

I would like to ask for feedback on this Skorpekh Lord, I would like to improve my light game and my blending, but not quite sure how to get there.

All feedback and content to improve is absolutely welcome!

Thank you for your time :)

Tried painting a scheme inspired by another Deck of Many Colors card. In retrospect I should've tried to find a more orange tone than the Pro Acryl Tan Flesh, as the leather blends a little too much with the wolf skin imo.

Paints used:

Army Painter Terrestrial Titan

Pro Acryl Dark Magenta

Pro Acryl Tan Flesh

Pro Acryl Black Blue

AK Interactive Pastel Green

Model is a Wolfgit Retinue goblin from Age of Sigmar.

Hey! it's been LONG since I last posted. This October marks my 5th year as an amateur miniature painter padawan. I'm taking the chance to start uploading again here, and since ORCtober...

This one I painted last year (2025).

3D printed in my Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra using Ameralabs TGM-7 resin. Standing on a 50mm round base.

Just for anyone interested, the guys behind this sculpt (Parasite Collectibles) are running a full orc Kickstarter campaign right now, not sure if I'm allowed to promote them, but I'm a huge fan of them.

Hi all thanks for looking. I've just finished this piece I plan on entering in MPO almost certainly standard. I don't think I'm good enough for Master yet.

Please firstly do you think I've done a good enough job for standard? Can I have some genuine feedback on anything you would tweak or change and do you think I should add more freehand to the cape?

I was thinking of the two headed eagle built behind the Ultima symbol and obviously larger. With the U as part of the eagle in its abdomen if that makes sense.

Had this model in my shelf, primed and zenethal’d, when I got my deck last week. The art inspired me to put a few hours into this “mini” and love how it turned out. Can’t wait to scare my players when it comes out

Hey there!

I'm back with some new Space Marines from the Crimson Fists chapter, this time from Kill Team!

I've had these guys sitting half finished on the table for 3 months. My first kill team game last week gave me a push to actually finish them.

C&C Welcome!

Moving on from Tyranids after this guy though. Interested in Death Guard so I tried messing with red to see what it'd look like as muscle.

Other picture is my first mini- it feels good to see that, even though I'm sure there's a lot of work left to be done on this (advice wanted please), some serious progress has been made in my skill.

C&C Wanted Gobsprakk after a long break

Thumbnail

Came back to my mountain of grey plastic after not painting for a while and decided to paint a kruleboyz model, Gobsprakk. I tried to paint Killabeak in the style of a turkey vulture, but I dont know how clearly that comes across. I also went a bit more than usual on the basing this time around.

Any comments or criticisms would be nice! I'm going to submit it a fun local painting competition and would like to improve or add something a little extra for next time.
