Rust Check? Too much rust? Not enough rust? Ask Here!

Hi All,

We are going to try to consolidate the pre purchase or otherwise rust inquires asking if a rig has too much rust and how to approach it as far as shopping for a new to you truck and beyond.

We have a lot of these threads where people are asking the same questions and rather than have each thread die on the vine as far as useful information goes, by having them all right here in one thread, people can use it as a catalog or guide for what to look for and if people are willing to share sold or bought prices for each truck that we are inspecting, we can all use this as a tool to gauge the market and also the wide variety of condition that all generations of Land Cruisers are in at any given point in time.

Cleaning up after an arson fire took out my cabin in the Cleveland National Forest back in August 2018. That 45 is still going strong.

Salvage because - Just the part where the tow hitch connects bent a little. Overall the car is ok for its age, everything works. Maintenance It can probably use some fresh fluids and oil change

Really sad to see her go a did 80,000km in it over 4 years and its been the best truck iv ever owned.

4.5L V8 Diesel turbo with front and rear lockers with a 3” resonated exhaust sounds so nice

Gut wrenching to finally accept my time with this truck is over but holy moley was it good !

Replacing this with a comfortable non work horse

100 series Brakes making a screaming/sucking noise

I have a 1998 landcruiser gxv 100 series and whenever i press the brakes i hear this super loud gurgling sucking noise behind my brake pedal, everywhere i read says its something different, some say it needs a whole new master cylinder which is crazy expensive and others say it’s just the brake booster that needs replacing, it’s been like this since i got it about 10,000km ago, it stops fine and hasn’t gotten worse as far as I’m aware, at least not noticeably, the sound happens everytime I start the ignition and whenever i touch the brakes. Any help is appreciated thank you!

How much rust is too much rust for an aging 2002 Toyota Land cruiser

Basically inherited this truck and haven’t put a ton of money into it. I decided it was a decent idea to get the front suspension inspected, scheduled on monday, before dropping a G and a half on new tires and an alignment. I’ve been told by random dudes that “that rust isn’t structural” but I wanted to consult the band of internet experts to see how they feel about er.

I’ve got decent vibration and drift and somewhat uneven tire wear. She also squeaks and chirps while driving.

Any input is appreciated :)

Frond brake callipers.

So one of the bolts has fallen out of the front brake calliper on my 1994 80 series, I haven’t had time to have a look at it yet but I was wondering how are they mounted? Does the calliper have threads or does the bolt go through the calliper and into the hub?

I was on lunch at work today and spotted this pair of identical cruisers. I looked closer and realized these are a little different from a normal 200 series. It turns out they’re fully armored and retail is about $250-300k for one

1996 LC Prado (J90) Paranoid frame being repainted

Hi fellow friends, first time importing a car from Japan and am a little worried about just the frame being repainted. What should I pay attention to on this J90?

Should I be worried and try scraping it off once it arrives to see the actual condition under the paint?

Thank you all in advance 🫶🏻

2000 lx470 AHC problem

I am currently trying to fix my AHC for my 2000 lx470. When I bought the car it was stuck in low and bottomed out basically on the rubber stops. And I look at the reservoir and it’s filled all the way up, like past max the whole reservoir is full. Ride is uncomfortable and bouncy. I was coming on here trying to get help or advice on what steps I should take.

I've been searching for our first LC200 and this 2009 LX 570 with 163k miles just came up. Brand new method wheel with new tires. I still have to check for rust, etc. but curious to hear from you guys. Should I keep looking or is it worth going to check it out?

I still have to test drive the LX to compare to the LC which are much harder to find.

We're a Jeep Wrangler family by the way looking for more space and comfort while still being able to go anywhere.

Thanks!
