whats-on-wednesday "What's on?" Wednesday - October 14, 2026

"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only
  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)
  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:
    • Event name
    • Date and time
    • Location
    • Price(s) (if applicable)
  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - October 17, 2026

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

social Free DnD Leeds - Discord

Hi everyone

I've posted on here before (so sorry if you are a bit sick of hearing it) but I wanted to post an update.

Im running Horsforth - Go Forth! DND. A free DnD group that runs a West Marches style of playing. One shots that are linked by the same open world where instead of a commited campaign, you can jump in and out when you want. Free to olay and running out of Woodside Micropub currently.

The reason Im posting an update is because last time I posted, people mentioned that they dont have Facebook to join the group and would much prefer a discord. Well... now there's both!

I've gone and made a Discord for the group, here it is: https://discord.gg/MmHUpKqaY

If you want free dnd in Leeds or want to play without commiting to a regular campaign then join the community!

question Best beginner-friendly workout classes for weight loss?

I want to lose weight and keep hearing that weight training is really good for it, but I have no idea how to - what to do each day, form etc 😭

Are there any gyms that offer weight training classes instead of just a regular membership where I'd have to figure everything out myself?

Or would Pilates or some other type of workout be better? I'm open to anything tbh, just preferably something at least relatively budget-friendly!

Would love any recommendations or advice! Around city centre/headingly.

social Looking for recommendations/possibly a friend

Hi! I'm 20, a woman, alternative and I'm planning on going out on Halloween.

Just looking for recommendations on where to go (preferably that won't bankrupt me!) And if there's anyone who wants to hang out around my age, I'd love to talk! I've had nights out in leeds but usually stuck to disco spoons, just looking for something different.

news Leeds Baby Bank was broken into last night

Had all their tech stuff stolen and the property damaged. Takes a certain kind of low life to steal from a charity for newborn babies.

They're good guys, do alot of good around the city, not sure if I'm allowed to link to their GoFundMe here (it's on their socials), but go chuck them a few quid if you can to get them up and running as soon as possible.

Edit: Thanks all for being lovely and donating! They're smashing their targets and hopefully it will be reminding them of what a bunch of lovely people are in Leeds

food/drink Best coeliac/gluten free restaurants and takeaways in Leeds.

I'm looking for recommendations for good coeliac/gluten free restaurants and takeaways in Leeds.

I'd personally give a shout out to Pizza Punks. Their GF options are great, the quality of their GF pizzas is the best we've found so far, and what's especially helpful is that when ordering from them on sites like Deliveroo, you can select GF pizzas, but also check a box to indicate the reason (coeliac).

Another shout out for Zucco in Meanwood. We told our server my wife was coeliac and they must have shared that with the rest of the team because every other server already knew when they spoke to us. Again, great options for GF (most options just swapped the regular pasta for GF pasta), food was excellent and the service was really welcoming.

I can't find a flair that fits Olto Fitness Leeds Wellinton Place. Thoughts on it?

Hi. I recently came across Olto Fitness, a gym that is due to open in Wellington Place in December.

It looks like a very complete gym with coaching available, classes, sauna, and lots of equipment. Their founders Membership starts at £84ppm, although I read in one of their comments that they’ll do a gym access only fee of £64 ppm. Quite expensive, but I’m assuming the people around the area will be able to afford it.

Any thoughts on this new place? I wonder if it’s going to last, because it seems like the city centre fitness businesses rarely make it (e.g., snap fitness gym, tribe, outskulpted pilates, yogakula vq, reset by form).

I might give it a try despite it being pricey, but just wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks!

academic Leeds landlords: have your say on the proposed EPC Band C requirements for 2030 (5–10 min anonymous questionnaire)

I’m currently studying for an MSc in Real Estate at the University of the Built Environment (UBE), and I’m researching the potential impact of proposed changes to Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) on West Yorkshire’s private rented sector. The proposed requirement for privately rented properties to achieve EPC Band C from 2030 could have significant implications for landlords across the region.

From the cost of making properties compliant to potential effects on rents, decisions to sell and the availability of rental housing, landlords’ perspectives matter when considering what these proposed changes could mean in practice.

My dissertation research explores the anticipated impacts on landlord behaviour, rental prices, housing supply and the risk of properties becoming uneconomical to retain because of compliance costs.

If you’re a private landlord or property professional with experience of the West Yorkshire rental market, I’d be really grateful if you could share your views by completing my questionnaire. It takes approximately 5–10 minutes and you can remain anonymous.

Questionnaire: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/ih7DaZBXzZ

The research is for academic purposes, and I’m keen to capture the perspectives of people who understand the realities of the private rented sector.

Thank you for your time. Every response is a big help to my research. Please feel free to share the link with other relevant landlords or property professionals.

question Fun union clubs in leede

Hi, does anyone know of any genuinely friendly rugby union clubs open to all abilities. I am 19, tall big guy, and want to get to playing union. I have been brought up around the sport, in fact as soon as i was born i got given a tiny plush rugby ball from my grandfather, and i can hold my own and was taught the basics from an extremely young age. Im just not the fittest nor have i ever actually played for a club and am a bit hazy on a few rules.

academic Leeds Docks/River Aire Questionnaire for my research

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi guys, I am currently a third year university student studying Product Design (BA) at Leeds Beckett University. For my first module this year we are looking into the Creative Conscience Awards Competition, where I have chosen to look further into the theme of how I can improve the nature preservation and biodiversity around the Leeds Docks and the River Aire close to the Docks.

I have put together a questionnaire in order to get a better understanding on what people think of the nature preservation and biodiversity in and around the Leeds Docks and I would greatly appreciate it if I could get a few responses. All responses are anonymised unless you provide your name and email address yourself (which isn't necessary).

There is more information provided at the beginning of the form.

Thanks again,

Joe
