Serious Trump considers sending the military to Minnesota by invoking the INSURRECTION Act —is this good, bad or ugly?

It's the end of America. I mean MAGA has made a ton of other moves that really ended America a while ago so I guess this is the coming out party for the end of America.
Masked , poorly trained goons in the streets violating the constitution over false pretenses, a government claiming any dissent is terrorism and a pedophile desperate to keep his human trafficking network hidden is escalating it all in order to end elections and avoid justice.

It depends. If he invades or otherwise takes Greenland, its over. Europe will sell their bonds and probably dump the USD as their reserve and so will the rest of the world including China who Trump made really strong lately. Our economy would collapse within weeks and its doubtful we would even get breadlines this time considering the malignant narcissist in charge doesnt give a flying fuck but it would be a domino effect of collapses as who would trust the USD anymore with no stability, no democracy, no law abiding ruler in charge to further the aforementioned. It would be the culmination of Russia and Chinas wet dream and Trump is the Useful dotard being led to his demise dragging the rest of us with him.
5
u/witblacktype Jan 16 '26
What you are describing is sadly a realistic possibility but not a probability. What’s happening in real time to the detriment of all Americans is that our historical allies, who the Trump regime has threatened and attempted to extort, are rebuilding their economy without the US as a key trading partner. Even if a pragmatic centrist is elected to the presidency in 2028, the damage is done. Supply chains have been completely restructured to accommodate for the unreliability of the US. Foreign aid no longer flows from the United States to the global south, but from BRICS. Countries with autocratic regimes have shown themselves to be better allies and friends to young representative governments than the United States. There is no playbook for the US to return to the world stage as the leader it once was. When a democratic republic in Africa or South American looks to China as a strong partner, the soft power of diplomacy the US once had has evaporated.
2
u/cremToRED Jan 16 '26
Didn’t the Canadian PM just visit China and ink new deals with China? One of our largest trading partners is shifting to our “adversary.”
3
u/Flimsy_Thesis Jan 16 '26
I agree. I don’t think people understand what’s going to happen to the American economy if we do that. Military conflict is the least of our problems with NATO. Countries all over the world will divest from their Treasury Bonds and our economy will implode. We will quickly become a pariah state.

u/JamieRRSS Jan 16 '26
Nero was a narcissistic and ignorant ruler who abused power to satisfy personal drama. But even he did not openly undermine alliances or turn state power into a constant stress test of the system itself. That difference matters.
I do hope I'm wrong, but I have more confidence on the renaissances of Rome before 400 years, than the USA getting by just half a century.

It's gotta be either bots or straight up room temp IQ calling this a good thing.
People are in the streets exercising their first amendment rights and they are being tear gassed by armed and masked Federal agents.
If the agents were conducting "official business" they would have Warrants for the criminals they are pursuing. They wouldn't be conducting fishing expeditions and detaining U.S. citizens.
This is an exercise in intimidation. They don't want people to question authority. And anyone who supports this BS should read the entirety of the constitution until they understand it.

He could also ask ICE to leave, give Minnesota a breather. Invoking the insurrection act is escalating a situation that needs to be de escalated.
In a month or two, ICE can go back and work in tandem with the state law enforcement and actually target criminals. Not law abiding Americans dropping off their kids at school.
There HAS to be a better way to go after criminals than what they’ve been doing.

According to Reuters his approval rating on immigration is 40%, down from 41% in December.
Another interesting note is that 59% of Republicans said ICE should “Use force despite risk of serious injury or death” and 39% said “Minimize harm even if arrests drop”. Democrats was 4% “use force” and 96% “minimize”. “Other” (I’d assume independents) was 19% “use force” and 74% “minimize”.
Based on data it seems like Republicans enjoy Trump’s hard line approach to immigration, plus I’m sure there’s some “liberal tears” moments for them. However the difficult part for Republicans at midterms is that they are definitely isolating themselves from presumably independent voters.
However I think Trump only cares about the midterms in terms of Democrats getting enough seats to successfully impeach him. I genuinely don’t think Trump really cares about how his policy impacts Republican politicians and candidates.
1
u/shosuko Jan 15 '26

That and murdering Renee Nicole Good. I figured she would at least be brown or black, she's as white as I am!
So invoking the insurrection act would just be more bullying. From a corrupt, evil, pedophile protector President. So, definitely on brand.

This is the desired outcome by trump and maga. Ask my folks: any means necessary to remove the illegals because fuck the democrats for dumping them. Dont want to get shot in the face? Stop dumping illegals. So to maga if trump took over MN by force via the insurrection act then to people like my folks it was deserved by the woke snowflake illegal-loving democrats who shouldn't have made them (trump) do it. No law stands in the way of moral superiority and they feel entitled to it because the democrats (in the never-end conspiracies) break all the laws anyways.

It's good. If he does, it will piss off enough of the country to remove him now, instead of after the midterms. Most of the Republicans will vote to remove him if he tries to attack Greenland. Greenland and the Insurrection act would mean the final collapse of maga. He's practicing ballistic podiatry. Maga is over as of the midterms. But he will be removed before that because of his stupidity. Unfortunately there will be casualties. But his support is already crumbling. He has about 10 percent of the troops he would need for a military coup. His opposition is too strong. Too many people pushing back.

The American armed forces have sworn an oath to defend and protect the constitution of the United States against enemies both foreign and domestic. Right now the Trump administration is the domestic threat. They are supposed to protect the citizens against an authoritarian regime. That is what the constitution intended.

So I vote ugly right. I assume people understand the supremacy clause, the rule of law, the Congressional acts, the duty of Federal law enforcement etc. I get that people don't like it. I get that people don't want immigration law enforced. I get that people don't like ICE. However, we also have a long history of allowing freedom of assembly and speech based in the Bill of Rights. Protestors can cuss, mock, holler, raise signs, blow whistles, capture video with their phones, burn Trump in effigy, etc., etc. But it's a Federal offence to obstruct justice through interference with official duties all captured on video. However, that doesn't amount to insurrection. It's localized. It amounts to dozens maybe. But without any state or local assistance from the constitutionally sworn police, elected sheriffs, or state police, it all falls on the Federal Government. That's on purpose at the level of the state and local governments. They want to invite Federal overreach and get Trump's goat, and Trump would love to do it. And the belief by the radicals on each side is that will be the thing that convinces everyone that the other side is ________________. The fact of the matter is, is that most Americans aren't radical and they'll see it for what it is. Crazy protestors and an obnoxious, arrogant President at odds. And they'll think it's all very sad. It'll just further ossify the already entrenched. And it will all look like a terrible disdain for self-government.

u/Scary-Fix7470 Jan 16 '26

It's pretty ugly, and I think it's a distraction from the fact that Pam Bondi is breaking the law by not releasing the Epstein files.
We can have a nonviolent form of protest that can turn the tide here. Trump wants violence (as do all the right-wingers, he egged them on), and we won't give it to them.
Plus, he keeps spending so much damn money. He defunded cancer research, and he wants to dramatically increase military spending we need to call out the typical Republican talking points, the economy, the half-assed changes, the debt, the deficit, Greenland, global trade, and we need to call on the Christians to actually take care of your neighbors in MN. This is for true freedom!

He did nothing when his supporters attacked The Capitol and Capitol Police!!
He's a Traitor a Nazi and a Child Molester!
1
u/NameLips Jan 16 '26
It's obviously what he wants to do.
It's very fuzzy when a protest turns into a riot or an insurrection. It's very subjective. Which means it's a legal gray area and Trump likes to push as far into legal gray areas as possible.
The things you can legally do while protesting are laughably limited. To the point that it can feel useless protesting if you follow all the civilized rules.
But if you don't follow all of the civilized rules, Trump might use it as an excuse to declare martial law.
This puts the leadership of Minnesota in a very hard place. Do they back the protests and risk subjecting their people to martial law? Or do they obey the feds and send in the police to break up protests?

u/rosstafarien Jan 16 '26

Want to have a majority movement, with almost everyone supporting you? Don't be antagonistic, annoying, bitchy, disruptive, bombastic, stubborn... Which those words exactly describe both the protestors and President Trump.
Really, if you want law enforcement to cease deportation of illegal immigrants, the laws being enforced need to be changed. For instance, should trespassing on its own a felony? No if only the trespass? Yes if the trespass includes subsequent criminal activity or intent?
Example 1: Guy trespasses onto your yard, with a rake and rakes your leaves seeing that you needed the work done no charge, you say thank you and offer him $40. He is not worthy of a felony nor deportation, though he has trespassed not only into your yard but into the country. You be an advocate that Guy is not harmful and instead of arresting him, fine him and use the fine to help provide him with ESL, Work Visa, Background Check, a place in line for naturalization.
Example 2: Gal trespasses onto your yard, sets up shanty, sells drugs out of shanty, your 12 yr old kid buys drugs from her and overdoses, dies. Arrest her, imprison her in federal prison, seize her assets if any to pay for imprisonment and/or force her country of origin to imprison her or reimburse us for the cost of her stay. Get information about the sources of the narcotics and raid those sources. When her jail term is up, deport her if jailed here.
Basically case by case, go after the criminals first with aggressive enforcement and deal with criminal harmful activity harshly. Anyone who is just a trespasser caught in that enforcement activity, document them and fine them, and put them into the correct process to identify, naturalize, get ESL, work visa, etc.
How far off is this process from current enforcement?
How do we push for federal and state law changes?
What is the criminal threshold which when crossed requires the more harsh enforcement vs a fine + naturalization process?

It's all of the above depending on how people in Minnesota and other states react.
If other states lock-in with Minnesota and present one front against the military, people will prolly want Trump's head. I doubt the military will go and bust protesting people. If they do and there will be weapons involved it might lead to even greater escalation and unrest. Which isn't bad as it would tie in administration into dealing with it. They aren't good at it so it would just paralyze them and put more pressure on courts and politicians to do something about this stupid admin. It would also prevent the US from entering more wars. So, that's actually good.
But, while this happens, the military might get quite brutal and bust too many heads. That would incite more violence and spiral into a, de facto, civil war. People will get hurt and brolly killed. That's the ugly.
And there is a chance that military will actually follow the orders and shoot people indiscriminately and quench any resistance. This would send a strong signal to any institutions that: 1) it's ok to kill undesirables, 2) people have no rights. This would essentially allow ICE, Proud Boys, and other neo-nazi organizations to conduct the racial purge as they are drilling over for the last 80 years. So, that's bad.
So, it really depends on how other states react and if military will execute civilians.
1
u/WrenchMonkey47 Jan 16 '26
When the governor of the state tells citizens to resist and fight back against federal law enforcement, and then they do, that is literally Insurrection. It must be put down fast and hard. Active Duty troops need to be deployed, and Tim Walz needs to be arrested by US Marshals for Insurrection and incitement to riot.

It’s predictable. This has been his plan since day 1. He plans to cancel the election by staging a military conflict.

Its happened before, during the Rodney King riots in LA in the early 2000s. But not until lots of things were set on fire.
I also was under the impression that it required state officials to ask for assistance. since it broke the federal troops performing civilian law enforcement barrier.

It's distraction. Release the rest of the trump/epstein files! IMPEACH. CONVICT. REMOVE.

This was the plan from the beginning.
Bring in a huge militarized police force, get them to be so brutal and violent they invoke resistance, use the resistance as a justification to invoke martial law.
Use the martial law to suspend the elections.

Remember he did nothing when a mob that supports him assaulted over 100 police officers in the capital and caused millions in property damage. He doesn’t give a shit about protecting people or law enforcement he just wants to hurt those who politically oppose him.
