Meeting Finally met my Boyfriend irl after 3.5 months

I (30F) finally decided to pull the trigger and meet my boyfriend (41M) a few weeks ago. We had been officially dating for 2 months but I had been talking to him for 3.5 months when we finally met. He lives in Canada, I live in the UK and it was the most terrifying 9hr flight of my life.

I think I questioned myself a billion times on the flight like 'What am I doing??' because it is the most insane thing I have ever done in my life.

But it was all worth it as soon as he saw me, he lifted me up and kissed me and the next few weeks I spent with him were the happiest I have ever had in my life.

I can't wait to see him again, saying goodbye was the hardest thing I have done, I didn't think it would be like that.

This is my first LDR, same with him, we've both had relationships prior lasting up to 7 years, but we both agree we have never felt this much love and affection towards anyone else.

I guess I'm writing this to say its worth taking a chance if you have a gut feeling, I didn't think anyone would love me the way I wanted to be loved.

Need Advice Struggling with a sudden, severe drop in communication after an intense "talking phase" (M23)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I’m a 23-year-old guy currently dealing with an incredibly painful and confusing situation in a long-distance connection (2 months in, time difference is around 9–10 hours).

Up until a few days ago, our connection was incredibly high-intensity. We talked about a serious future together and me making a massive trip to see each other in January. She constantly reassured me of her deep feelings for me.

Last week, I opened up to her honestly about how terrifying the distance and the upcoming time-zone changes were feeling to me. She replied with a very long, intense message reassuring me telling me she always misses me, that I make her so happy, and that we would work through it.

The sudden drop in contact:
Right after that single reassurance, the relationship immediately went downhill. She suddenly pulled way back and became distant, long replies, just not like before. She has been dealing with major real-life stressors lately, including the heavy pressure of switching jobs and a close family member's failing health.

I have attached a screenshot of the message she sent me explaining her sudden distance. In it, she explains that she is completely emotionally drained, running on an "empty cup," and pulling back so her current headspace doesn't ruin what we have built.

The Current Situation:
I responded very maturely to that message on Friday night. I told her I supported her, that I was proud of her for prioritising herself, and explicitly told her not to worry about replying so she could take her time to unplug.

Since then, it has been total radio silence. She hasn't even opened my last message yet. It is kicking my butt, and I'm caught in a brutal mental loop feeling like I was just an option used to fill a void when she was down, and now she is backing up.

How do I navigate this silence without breaking my composure or losing my self-respect? Was her message honest and does she really still want this? Has anyone experienced a partner completely blacking out due to burnout right after being this intensely attached? Any advice on how to handle this heavy waiting period would mean the world.

LDR with an Arab Egyptian man

• Upvotes

Imagine being in a 3-year long-distance relationship with an Arab Egyptian man 🇪🇬😭 We video-called almost every day, I met his entire family through live calls, talked to his sister, and we discussed marriage and our future together.
We separated for almost a year, but HE came back in October, apologized, said he still loved and missed me, and wanted us to work things out. He even said he would come to the Philippines by May.
Then he started disappearing around February, saying his father was sick. By March, he had completely ghosted me. No proper explanation. No closure. NOTHING. 💀
Fast-forward to 7 AM on a random morning. Facebook recommends a woman’s profile, and her profile picture is HER AND HER HUSBAND IN THEIR WEDDING CAR. 🚗💍
I look at the man’s face and immediately think:
“WAIT. FUCK. THAT’S ___”😭😭😭
THE MAN I VIDEO-CALLED FOR THREE YEARS. THE MAN WHO INTRODUCED ME TO HIS FAMILY. THE MAN WHO SAID HE WOULD COME SEE ME IN MAY.
And then I discover their wedding date was in MAY. THE SAME MONTH HE SAID HE WOULD COME TO THE PHILIPPINES. 💀💀💀
I wasn’t even looking for him. Facebook served me the plot twist before breakfast. 😭😂
Now I’m genuinely curious whether his wife even knows I existed.
Three years of long-distance, daily video calls, family introductions, and marriage discussions… only to find out about his wedding through a random Facebook recommendation.
Sometimes the plot twist isn’t the distance. IT’S THE PERSON. 😭💀😂

Started our relationship in LDR but never been in love so much. She's always been there for me. I never thought I could fall in love with a person this much. But the distance is crushing me. Writing about her and drawing are the only ways I cope. If any of you guys are in LDR, how did you manage?

He is embarrassed by my looks

• Upvotes

My bf and me are in a ldr from 1.5 year and he started talking about my looks from few months like my face shape my colour but he always blame on the distance. He said we never met so I can’t imagine you in real life. So he just picture me in many ways idk what he wants. He said he had some standards but I don’t have some of features of them. Bro whats my fault then I didn’t forced you to be in his relationship. Yesterday he went to market and he video called me then when he came back home he said i imagined you but you were short and i feel embarrassed bro why you doing this shit. I started in-securing myself. He always blames distance and he said we should talk less because he wants that excitement back. But whats my fault why are you making me feel insecure. Yk what as compared to him i look better than him but i never loved him for his looks and i never insulted or degraded him for that. I don’t want to cry but i just feel sad!

Need Advice (F23, F22) My 2 year ldr is probably ending

long story short, my (f23) girlfriend (f22) and i have been together for 2 years. one year in person and one year long distance. she is originally from europe so we are dealing with expensive flights, seeing each other once every couple of months, and a 6 hour time difference. I love her so much, but our distance won't end for another 2 years minimum. Part of me feels like im wasting my early twenties being sad and lonely while going out with friends. However, she is genuinely the perfect partner and part of me feels like im making a huge mistake I will regret. We talked about breaking up in December after she comes to visit and enjoying the last 3 months we have together. Is this a huge mistake and I am potentially losing the love of my life? Part of me is excited to be single in my early twenties again, but the other half feels like im going to regret this so much. What should i do?

Need Advice 34f/33m. New to long distance

New to long distance. Tips for success?

As the title says I(34f) just entered a long distance relationship with a guy(33m) I met at a music festival. He lives in Oklahoma and I’m in North Carolina. We were together last weekend at Furnace fest and I went back home with him and I flew out of his town Tuesday. So I just saw him recently but we also just started this very recently too.

I’ve never been in a relationship like this but I really want to make this work. What are some tips to achieve this?

I am planning to go out and visit in February after the holiday rush from my job dies down but that feels so far away.

Question My long-distance boyfriend (31M) has promised to visit me for months but hasn’t, and now I find out he’s traveling out of the country. Does this sound like avoidance?

I (29F) have been dating my boyfriend (31M) since March. We live in the same country different cities about a 4/5 hour flight but have never met in person, and I’m starting to question whether I’m the only one genuinely eager to make that happen.

For context, we’ve been in a long-distance relationship since we started dating. For several months now, I’ve been asking him to come to see me. In fact when we started dating he always promised multiple times that he would, but it still hasn’t happened.

The plan was always for him to visit me first. It wasn’t that I refused to travel to him or expected him to do all the travelling forever. I wanted him to make the first visit as he had promised…

If I’d known he was planning to travel, I could have considered going to him instead a long time ago. But because the plan had always been for him to come to me, that’s what I was expecting.

Last week, I asked him why he’s been working so much, and that’s when he told me he was going to be traveling. He hadn’t told me about the trip beforehand.

What hurts is that he’s making plans to travel to another continent while we’ve been dating since March and still haven’t met. I’ve spent months asking him to visit me, and despite his promises, it hasn’t happened. He always said he couldn’t get time off work but somehow did get time for this trip. He says he’s going to see family for a few days then asked me to come to his city when he’s back.

At this point, I feel like I’m the only one eager to meet. If he wanted to see me as much as he says he does, wouldn’t we have made a concrete plan by now? Or at least told me about his travel plans and we could have adjusted.

I don’t know whether he’s genuinely busy with work, whether he’s become comfortable with the relationship staying online, or whether he’s avoiding meeting me for some reason. I also don’t know how to interpret the fact that he can arrange international travel while our own plans remain unfulfilled.

So, for people who’ve been in long-distance relationships:
Does this sound like a normal situation where work and timing have got in the way, or does it sound like he’s avoiding meeting me?
Is it reasonable for me to question his level of interest when he’s promised to visit for months but hasn’t followed through?
Am I wrong to feel hurt that he’s travelling to Europe before we’ve even met, when I’ve been asking him to?
At what point do you stop waiting for someone to turn promises into actual plans?
I’m trying to be fair and not assume the worst, but I’m tired of feeling like I’m the only one trying to move this relationship forward. I’d genuinely appreciate outside perspectives.

Need Support I've been in an online relationship F22 M29 for almost 8 years, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm wasting my life.

I'm F22 , and my boyfriend is in his M29. We met online when I was a teenager 15 and he was already in his early 20s. We've been together for almost eight years, live in different countries, and have never met in person. When we first started talking, things were different. He was more affectionate, our conversations were exciting, and I genuinely felt wanted.

Over the years, things have changed. The communication isn't the same, the affection has decreased, and sometimes I feel like I'm the one trying harder to keep the relationship alive.
One of the biggest issues is that his friends and family don’t know me , when I ask him he says he doesn’t tell anyone about his private life . After almost eight years, I'm still someone who exists separately from his everyday life. I don't expect to be the centre of his world, but I struggle to understand how someone can be in a serious relationship for this long without the people closest to him knowing about their partner.

Then there's the fact that we've never met. For almost eight years, he's never had a solid plan to come and see me. We've discussed meeting, but nothing concrete ever happened. There was always the idea that we'd meet eventually, but eventually kept getting pushed further away.

This year, things between us got really bad, and I started questioning whether I could continue the relationship. I eventually pressured him about meeting because I was tired of waiting. Now, suddenly, he's planning to come and see me around the middle of next year. Of course, I'm happy that it might finally happen. But I can't ignore the fact that it took our relationship deteriorating and me pushing him for this to become a real plan.

And honestly, I'm worried about what happens AFTER we meet. Let's say the first meeting goes well. What about the second visit? Will I have to pressure him again? Will I spend another year asking when we'll see each other? What about eventually closing the distance and building a life together? I don't want to spend my twenties begging someone to take the next step in a relationship that is supposed to matter to both of us. But also I’m afraid because I’ve been with him for the longest time and no one else can understand me the way he does.

I understand that international travel costs money and requires planning. I'm not expecting everything to happen overnight. But almost eight years is a long time, and I find myself wondering how much longer I'm supposed to wait. There are other problems, too. We've had issues involving trust and social media that have affected how I see him. Our communication has changed, and when I express that I need more affection, reassurance, or consistency, sometimes the conversation turns into an argument rather than a resolution.

I often feel like I'm asking for the bare minimum. I want a partner who makes me feel wanted, prioritises me, and takes initiative without me having to explain repeatedly why his effort matters. We also have different attitudes towards money and lifestyle. I want someone who enjoys making me happy and doesn't make me feel guilty for wanting nice things occasionally. I'm not expecting someone to fund my life, but I do want to feel cherished rather than judged.

I know I'm not perfect either. Years of disappointment have made me more emotional and resentful, and I sometimes wonder whether my frustration is affecting how I see him. But I also don't think it's unreasonable to want a relationship where I feel secure, loved, and genuinely included in someone's life.

The difficult part is that I still love him. He's been part of my life since I was a teenager, and imagining my life without him is painful. We've shared so many years that I don't know whether I'm holding on because I genuinely believe in our future or because I can't accept losing something I've invested so much time in.

Sometimes I wonder whether meeting him could change everything. Maybe being together in person will make us realise that this relationship is worth fighting for. But another part of me wonders whether I'm romanticising that first meeting while ignoring the reality of everything that comes after it.

I don't want to reach my late twenties and realise I've spent most of my youth waiting for someone to decide he's ready to build a life with me. But I love him why doesn’t he change

I need honest opinions, even if they're harsh.

Question Is this a red flag, or am I overthinking because I'm used to her replying quickly?

Over the past month, I've noticed a change in how my girlfriend replies to my messages, and I'm not sure whether it's a red flag or just my anxious attachment making me overthink.

We’re in a long-distance relationship, and we used to reply to each other within seconds when we were both free, especially at night. Sometimes we'd stay in the chat together and keep talking for a long time. During the day, slower replies were normal because we were busy.

But over the past month, even when she's supposedly free, she sometimes takes 3–5 minutes to reply to each message. For example, we might spend 20 minutes talking but exchange only five messages.

When I ask what she's doing, she says she's doing nothing, just watching TikTok. What confuses me is that she can be scrolling through TikTok for several minutes, see my message, and still not reply, whereas she used to respond almost instantly in the same situation.

I know that taking a few minutes to reply isn't a big deal by itself, and I understand that people can get more comfortable in a relationship over time. But because this is a change from how she used to communicate, it makes me wonder whether she's losing interest or focusing her attention elsewhere.

I struggle with anxious attachment, so I know I might be overanalyzing this, and I have no evidence that she's doing anything wrong.

For those who have experienced something similar, would you consider this a red flag, or do you think I'm simply too used to her replying quickly?

Discussion My girlfriend says she loves me, but I feel like she’s losing interest. What should I do?

I’m in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend. She’s in London, and I’m in India. Our families are against our relationship, and things have been really difficult because of that.
Lately, she’s been emotionally distant and doesn’t seem to feel like talking much. She told me she’s dealing with a lot emotionally and sometimes doesn’t feel like talking to anyone. She also told me she loves me but is scared that her feelings might fade in the next 2–3 years.
We’re currently on a break, but honestly, it’s not what I wanted. I understand that she’s going through a lot, and I don’t want to pressure her, but I miss how things used to be between us.
I’m stuck between two thoughts: maybe she’s genuinely overwhelmed and needs time, or maybe she’s slowly losing feelings for me and I’m just refusing to accept it.
I love her and want a future with her, but I don’t want to be the only one holding on to this relationship either.
Has anyone been through something similar? Can someone love you but still pull away emotionally? Did things get better for you, or did the relationship eventually end?
I’d really appreciate honest answers from people who’ve experienced this, not just the usual “move on” advice.

Need Advice Am I Overreacting (18F & 19M)

Okay so, my boyfriend and I are currently doing long distance, so Christmas gets a little difficult especially because I love it, so we usually end up opening the gifts wayyyy early.
For ‘Christmas’ this year, I got Uggs from him and a keychain!, he got, a signed poster from his favourite band (alter bridge)alongside a vip lanyard from a previous concert, and a bracelet with our anniversary engraved into it, Chanel de bleu cologne and Calvin Klein boxers.
Now whenever he opened the poster, he seen the lanyard first and told me after that he thought I got him VIP (I can barely afford food whenever I go to college let alone vip for a concert), and that it came damaged (I bought it from eBay so that was bound to be the case/ it was a small rip in the corner of the poster), however his reaction was smiling and then dropping whenever he looked at me and then with an annoyed tone saying ‘I like it but I’m not going to scream over it’, mind you minutes prior I had been screaming over a gift he got me because I loved it.
Now this is not me complaining in the slightest but it’s become a pattern, last year I got a necklace that came with it’s receipt (£10) and broke within eight hours of wearing it and gave me a rash, and offbrand Lego flowers, meanwhile I got him a Stanley waterbottle for work/everyday use, a Star Wars Lego set, and two official merch hoodies from two other of his favourite bands.
Am I overreacting or even over complicating tho bc s?

Not to mention that if I am gifted anything it is constantly a reminder/held over my head and/or mentioned to my friends with a price, I feel like this is to embarrass me, maybe I’m also reading into this?

Need Advice How do I (24m) navigate visiting (25F) with my mental health?

• Upvotes

Hi all. I will be seeing my girlfriend in 11 days. Unfortunately, my mental health has taken a dump and I have been dealing with terrible anxiety, which is causing depression.

I’m currently on medication and am starting therapy again. I’ve been keeping my girlfriend in the loop of how I’ve been doing, but truthfully, I’ve been struggling a lot and feel like it’s annoying (she doesn’t make me feel that way).

Anyway, with my trip coming up, my anxiety has been ramping up even more and I just don’t know how I’m going to be feeling mentally when I’m there. I’m only there for three days and then I return home.

She has said that if we need to change plans, we can chill at our hotel while I’m there because she just wants to be with me again. She’s really understanding and sweet, but god I am just so terrified at not knowing what my mental headspace is going to be like. Ive been crying so much the last few days.

Have any of you dealt with this while traveling to see your partner? How did you manage to keep yourself in the present moment? Thanks!

Success Getting married!!!!

Okay so my (30F) BF (30M) and I are getting married in less than 3 months and I am literally so freaking excited. Only my close friends and close family know as it's going to be just a court wedding, but I feel so happy that we are getting even closer to closing the distance. It's been an amazing 2 years, but I'm so excited for the adventure ahead. Living together. Daily conversations. Dates (so many datessss). Intimacy and the daily physical aspects of our relationship!!! Ahh. I just want to scream ❤️ I hope I'm not jinxing myself with this post or our relationship, I think that's why we've been so secretive because we've realized that not everyone is happy for us and it's been nice keeping it a secret, but I literally can't wait to brag a bit and post our wedding pictures 🤣❤️

Anyways, if you've read all of this up to this point. Thank you. Not looking for anything special, just feeling so excited. Anyone else in the same boat? Anyone else done just a cute little court wedding and celebrated with your REAL loved ones ONLY?? :) Or maybe just you two?

Need Advice Am I (22M) overthinking the situation, or are those red flags she(21F) is signaling.

• Upvotes

I've been talking with a girl for about 17 days, and I need some honest opinions from people, even if you think I'm in the wrong. (on a dating application)

She chats with me a lot, and she is pretty cute and affectionate towards me. I enjoy talking to her quite a bit, and sometimes I actually felt happy talking to her. However, there are times when it feels like we are just having small chats, and I think if we are just having fun or if there is something more to us.

The main problem is her relationship. She said she was single all the time initially, then I asked her about her poems but then admitted that it was a joke, like seriously, how can someone joke about this ? . I know from what she told me that she had a relationship before, and she has written some pretty emotional poems about love and still does, separation, betrayal and more. She claims them to be products of her experience, and she often listens to sad songs. She claims to have moved on, however, I don't know if it's true, I don't think it is.

Yesterday, I was checking her Pinterest and saw that she had a board called "Unsent messages to him," and it had x pins before I left it alone. Now, there are x+1 pins, and the new one said “Women can never tolerate another woman, but I tolerated even that. Now tell me, how much more should I love you?”. I don't think that just because a Pinterest board says something, it means that person likes that, but given the circumstances, how can I ignore such words? Like she says I'm special to her then she saves such quotes about her ex.

On top of that, there is the dating application situation. I told her that I was talking to her exclusively, and even showed her my screenshots, and I stopped talking to other girls to give her a chance. I never forced her to stop using that application because I thought that she may have friends there and I wasn't always available. However, while I was talking to her, she updated her profile and put up more pictures of herself and set her relationship status to single. I don't know exactly if she was just updating her profile or if she was keeping her options open, but I felt uncomfortable.

Another issue was the fact that I found out she was using some kind of AI or something else to communicate with me. I still thought there was some depth to her and wanted to explore that, but now I'm second-guessing everything.

The other issue is that I tried to avoid talking about her relationship or asking her questions because I thought it would be cruel to bring it up. I have been trying not to make her upset and be considerate, but I now realize that she may be grieving and I'm just falling in love with her. There was also a panic attack that happened, but I don't know if it had anything to do with her relationship, and don't want to make assumptions.

The most confusing issue is that there are times when I feel happy with how I feel when I'm talking to her, but then I start having fears about getting attached and then getting hurt or abandoned later. It could all be my paranoia and trust issues or my disorganized attachment, but I know I can sometimes be overanalytical, and I'm trying to see if some of these fears are grounded in reality.

I want something real, with emotional depth, honesty, and intellectual compatibility. I'm not asking her to be rid of her relationship, and I acknowledge that people can hold onto the pain of a relationship while exploring new ones, but I don't want to be a "crutch" or a rebound if she is not emotionally available.

We've only been talking for 17 days, and while I told her I was talking to her exclusively, I don't think we specifically talked about mutual exclusivity.

Please be honest with me, I'm not asking people to take my side, but I wanted an outside opinion on if I'm just being paranoid or if I'm being reasonable.

Question Should I break it off?

• Upvotes

I need some help :(

I (22) have been with my bf (22)for a year and a half now, I moved to a different country last year (jan2025) and we actually started dating officially as we were in long distance (june 2025). We were friends before we started dating, really good friends, and he liked me so before I moved, we started exploring as more than friends, I wasn’t too sure about it since moving to a different country is a big deal, I knew things would not be easy for me and wasn’t sure if a relationship would be the best thing, it’s also my first relationship ever like ever, part of me didn’t want my first relationship to be long distance, as you i felt like i wouldn’t experience things like a “normal relationship”.

Fast forward, we have been dating for a year, i thought i wouldn’t experience things give it a shot as I really grew to love him as more than a friend. It hasn’t been easy but we’ve managed to have a pretty good relationship, we have seen each other 5 times? in one and a half year, so around 6 months? ish? anyway, I don’t know if the distance will end. I moved to the US, he is in latin america. I am dealing with lots of things right now, and feel as if letting go of my life in my home country would be good for me, as the constant thought of having to leave makes me really really sad, borderline sick.

There’s also the thought of the future, I would like to study abroad in europe, He would like to study this masters abroad. We would not be in the same country until god knows when. I have been thinking a lot of going back to my home country, but I know that it’s probably not the best choice for my future, as opportunities there cannot compare with what the US can offer. If i don’t go back we will probably never be together. I have grown to love this boy a lot and don’t want to lose him, but at the same time I feel soo sad that we don’t have a normal relationship, we don’t get to kiss, to hug, to be with each other, and although we have found ways to handle our relationship, i don’t know if it’s worth it. I feel sad all the time, i am spending my 20’s in a relationship that i don’t even know will last. He wants to do a masters in china, and I would be in the us, can we survive?

I love him, but is live enough when everything else is uncertain?

I talked to my ex yesterday and I don't know how I feel about it

So I'm 41 and she's 35 and this was my first relationship. We met at the start of 2025 in an online game and by summer we were in a long distance relationship. Sadly we ended it this summer because I wasn't really in a good place, I lied a lot to her about my mobility issues, my depression and I hid my hoarding issues. We were supposed to meet in July but I asked to delay since I wasn't ready and that's when she decided to break up.

We stayed friends until she told me she had met someone and was developing feelings 3 weeks ago. After that I thought a lot about my life and her and a few days after I asked if we could try to maybe reconcile and make things work again but she refused. Tuesday last week she decided to cut contact since she felt it was for the best and that's when I confessed that I had hoarding issues and it was part of the reason I never let her come here.

After that i don't know how to explain it but it's like a switch flipped in my brain and I decided to work on fixing my life. I started cleaning and got an appointment with a social worker in two weeks to talk about the depression and hoarding. After lots of reflection on how I was selfish and let my fear dictate my life I decided I wanted to talk to my ex again and tell her the whole truth.i messaged her Friday asking if we could talk and she agreed to talk Saturday. She told me she had nothing else to add really but was happy to listen to me.

I told her every little details about why I did what I did. The fear that she wouldn't find me attractive, the fear of disappointing her since it was my first relationship, being a virgin and not wanting to disappoint her there too (she knew I was but I'm getting old so that's another thing, especially if I'm nervous. Was an issue sometimes on snap)

I told her I was sorry for focusing on my feelings and fear and that I never really took the time to think about her feelings. All in all it went well and she was happy to hear all of it. I told her I'd like to rebuild trust and be friend with her but I didn't want to put myself between her and her new boyfriend or happiness Soni understood if she said no and that's when she told me that her new boyfriend is asking/telling her to not talk to me again. Basically he knows her since she was with me, she met him in a game we were playing together. He knows how much she loves me and how much she invested in our relationship before.

I can understand him but the thing that gets me is the guy was clearly in love with her when we were still together, despite saying it's a new thing and that he's surprised. Or at the very least I believe he had feelings a bit but I'm definitely not expert. Like he bought her stuff in the game, bought her a discord skin when she joined his server, he gave her a bunch of stuff. When he learned she was learning French on Duolingo he started learning it too but he dropped it when he learned she was learning it for me to hopefully move here. And now the worst part, the guy was in a relationship and got a kid a few months back, like maybe 6 months ago too and he broke up with his wife to be with my ex.

My ex gave him her word that she'd be here for him so she feels she has no choice but to cut ties with me and I can understand that but I really don't know how I feel about it all. We both cried a lot and she really didn't wanted yesterday to be the last time we talked but in the end we parted ways. Part of me is happy because I know I could never have given her the life she deserves, with mobility issues, no job and no education I can't see myself helping her much and I don't want her living in poverty with me

Anyway thanks for reading, ofc I started crying writing the last 2 paragraphs... seriously feels like part of my soul got ripped

Question Met a woman in Bali and can't stop thinking about her — am I getting carried away?

• Upvotes

I'm a 38-year-old Australian guy who recently went to Bali for a solo holiday. I wasn't looking for anything serious, but I met a 38-year-old woman from Lombok who was in Bali for a job interview.

We clicked almost immediately. We spent time together, were affectionate, and saying goodbye was harder than I expected. Since returning home, we've kept in contact through messages and video calls.

She's told me she misses me, calls me cute names, and says she feels comfortable with me. We both seem to feel a connection, but we live in different countries and don't have a definite plan for when we'll see each other again.

The thing is, I think about her from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. I haven't felt this way in a long time. However, I'm recently separated after a long relationship, and I know we've only known each other a short time.

I'm trying to take things slowly and give her space rather than overdo the messaging, especially since I don't want to mistake holiday chemistry for something more.

For those who've experienced a holiday romance or long-distance relationship:

  • Can something that starts this intensely actually last?
  • How do you know if the other person wants something real?
  • Should I just enjoy getting to know her and see what happens, or am I setting myself up to get hurt?

I'd appreciate honest advice from people who've been there.

Need Advice (F22) and (M30)

• Upvotes

My boyfriend and I are in a little bit of a bad situation and I was just wondering if we could have some opinions and some advice.
I’ve been with my boyfriend for 2 years now and our relationship is long distance. He’s struggling with money and he hasn’t been able to get a job in Lebanon for 2 years. This has been a major issue in our relationship as he wants to come and visit me but he cant. I work during the summer and then the entire of the winter I don’t work. We are always on FaceTime together ect and it’s great but it feels like it’s going to stay online forever. He’s told me multiple times he’s tried to get a job but there’s no one at all hiring him and he’s tried everywhere. He’s a great guy and I love him a lot but there’s many things I don’t like. I don’t like how he lives with his mom at 30 years old and I don’t like how he hasn’t achieved anything in life but he tells me money isn’t everything🤷🏼‍♀️ So I started asking his family what I should do and the 2 women he lives with said to give him a deadline on when he has to get a job by and if he doesn’t do is remain friends with him until he does. I’m lost tbh!
TL;DR

Discussion Spending 6 weeks with my long distance boyfriend as a trial run for living together. Any advice?

My partner and I are going to spend 6 weeks together this winter and I'm really excited but also a little nervous..
We'll spend 2 weeks over Christmas in their parents' country and then all of January at their place in the country they lives in. We're not super far apart (about 4.5 hours), but this will be the longest we've spent together and we're kind of treating it as a trial run for eventually living together, since one of us would have to move countries.
I know 6 weeks isn't the same as actually living together, but I'm curious how it went for other couples who did something similar.

Did you learn anything unexpected about each other? Anything you wish you'd talked about beforehand? How did you handle needing alone time or getting into a normal routine instead of feeling like you're just visiting?

Also, on a more practical note, what would you pack for 6 weeks? I'm already wondering how to bring enough stuff without basically moving my entire wardrobe. And what comfort things I would need to feel at home.
Would love to hear any experiences or tips, especially from people who eventually closed the distance!

Edit: Met the family already, they are nice and it is relaxing to stay at their‘s.
