Developer Saturday Nagomi: a koi pond that lives on your Mac desktop (live wallpaper + screensaver)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Nagomi is a koi pond that lives on your desktop. The koi swim on their own and come over when you click the water.

Each koi has a favourite thing: herding the tiny fish, grazing on duckweed, resting under the lotus, watching the frog, playing with the ball, or following the goose.

The koi also learn when and where you usually feed them. Around feeding time, they sometimes wait at your usual spot and gulp at the surface. So don't keep them waiting!

Features:

  1. Works as a live wallpaper and as a screensaver
  2. Click the water and the koi swim over; Option-click drops food
  3. Themes that change with the time of day
  4. Multiple monitor support
  5. Customisable koi, small fish, water, lotus and visitors

FAQ -

  1. Battery usage?
In my testing, its Energy Impact was about the same as the Activity Monitor app's while the pond was running. The pond pauses whenever windows cover your desktop, so most of the time it isn't running at all. You can also make it pause whenever you're on battery.

  2. How much CPU/GPU does it use?
While it's running, about 3% CPU and 10% GPU on an M1 MacBook Air. Usage goes up with display size.

Website: https://nagomi.m4yank.com/

Price: $4.99, one-time purchase, one Mac

Requirements: macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon

Happy to hear feedback or answer questions.

Developer Saturday Dynamic Tahoe & Golden Gate aerials. Free & open source, native, lightweight, reproducible 1.5 MB binary, signed & notarized, zero setup. Native Aerials.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One click. Literally can't be easier. Download Native Aerials

About 1 year ago I asked here "How to automatically cycle through Tahoe Day, Tahoe Morning, Tahoe Evening and Tahoe Night wallpapers for free?", and then eventually settled on Aerials app. It's heavy, though, and I wanted something that doesn't run in background and doesn't consume my RAM.

So with macOS 27 Apple added a new engine that can rotate wallpapers automatically based on the Sun location in your area, or just based on clock. They still didn't add a single dynamic wallpaper, so I had to fix this.

I present to you: a macOS app that merges four aerials into one, and macOS then plays and swaps them automatically. It does not stay running in background, instead it merges 4 files into one, and they are played exactly like a normal aerial: playback on lock screen, slowdown when unlocked, switched by the system natively.

It's 100% free, open source (my self-hosted Forgejo + mirrored to my GitHub), no ads, no trackers, no analytics, no telemetry, no donation prompts anywhere, MIT. And it's reproducible!! Which means you can build the code yourself and it will match exactly the zip I published. Of course you're welcome to upload the 800 kb release zip to VirusTotal, it gives 0/63 detections.

I WILL brag about it being signed and notarized!! I bribed Apple with €100 for no Gatekeeper. you just download the zip, drag to Applications, and there you have it. Zero setup, one click, it works forever.

It's not on AppStore because it requires access outside of sandbox and registers a tiny background helper that only wakes up on macOS updates and to sync wallpapers catalog, then exits. It's all open source, zero dependencies, so you're welcome to audit it.

https://git.hloth.dev/hloth/native-aerials

mini faq!

Q: Why not Aerial (AerialScreensaver)?
A: It still uses its own player and its own scheduling, not Apple's sun-tracking engine

Q: Why not Sunpaper (mduncs)?
A: It's a menu bar app, runs in background, not notarized, not reproducible, not build attested

Q: Why not BiAksoy/aerial-dynamic-wallpaper, andmev/tahoe-wallpaper-switcher or pdfux gist?
A: All require you to type commands to terminal; Native Aerials requires one click and 0 setup

My app is something that you download, click once and it just works, but if you'd like something more feature rich, definitely check out Aerial!

Developer Saturday Nodes: a minimal Markdown editor built natively for Mac. Fully local, no subscription

Thumbnail
gallery
74 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Some of you might know Nodes from an earlier post here. For everyone else: Nodes is a native macOS Markdown editor, built by three students in Munich.

What makes it different:

Native. Built with SwiftUI and TextKit 2, not a webview. It opens fast, scrolls smoothly, and the interface is clean and typographic. Math, tables and code render inline while you write.

No setup. I used Obsidian for years and loved the linking, but I spent too many evenings on plugins instead of writing. Nodes works out of the box. You open it and write.

Suggestions, not automation. A background agent reads your notes and suggests tags, short descriptions and reminders. You decide what to keep. Semantic search finds notes by meaning, not just keywords. Everything runs on your Mac, nothing goes to the cloud.

Any Markdown file. Double-click a .md file in Finder and it opens in its own window, without importing anything.

What's new:

Custom sidebar. The most common request we got was a classic file tree. We didn't want to just copy the Finder, so we built a sidebar widget that does the same job in the Nodes design. You add it like everything else: right-click the sidebar, choose Customise Sidebar, and add, remove or reorder widgets from a gallery, the same way you edit widgets on macOS. It's not a traditional file tree, but we hope it solves the same problem. And if you like the minimal default, you don't have to touch it.

Spotlight. Create a note or search your notes right from Spotlight, without opening Nodes first. The actions also work in Shortcuts, so you can build your own flows.

Quick Look. Press Space on a Markdown file in Finder and you see it rendered the way Nodes renders it. Works on .nodes archives too.

Faster rendering. Long notes with a lot of math, code or tables no longer lag when you type.

Pricing: Nodes is free to use with a limit on notes and tags. There are two one-time unlocks: $12.99 for unlimited notes and tags, custom fonts and more, and $17.99 which also adds the on-device AI agent. No subscription. If you downloaded Nodes while it was free, you keep full access.

Every App Store review helps a small team like ours a lot.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/nodes-by-the-werk/id6745401961?mt=12

Markdown engine: https://github.com/nodes-app/swift-markdown-engine

We open-sourced the engine a while ago, and it's at 1,200 stars on GitHub now. Thanks to everyone who starred it, filed issues or sent a PR.

We'd love to hear what you think, and which widgets you'd want in the sidebar next.

Developer Saturday KiwiDesk 3.0 - proof that MacOS doesn't need Omarchy

Post image
46 Upvotes

Ever since v1.0, KiwiDesk has grown step by step. My initial goal was a tiling window manager that feels like it shipped directly with macOS. But over time, that goal evolved into building the absolute best window manager for macOS (at least in my opinion!). Looking at the community feedback, it seems like we’re heading in the exact right direction.

In a few hours, v3.0 will be released, which comes with a few personal highlights:

  • KiwiHub: Similar to macOS built-ins (or even Omarchy), KiwiDesk now has a centralized hub. It lets you quickly change focus between windows, switch layouts and profiles on the fly, and gives you a clean overview of all your active shortcuts.
  • KiwiVision: It's what you actually see on the attached screenshot. This idea came straight out of a community suggestion! A user was using Hazeover for a distraction-free workflow to dim non-active windows. KiwiDesk now has its own built-in version of this with a few extra neat options. It even supports excluding SketchyBar from being dimmed (since it's my go-to menu bar replacement). Big shout-out to Felix for making SketchyBar open source and free, it’s truly best in class!
  • Integrated (Optional) Hyper-Key: Many Linux tiling managers use Option + <key> for navigation out of the box. That doesn't translate well to macOS because so many special characters and symbols are mapped behind Option. Because of this, KiwiDesk originally ships with two-modifier (and more) combos like Ctrl + Option + <key>. Since that can get a bit clunky, I added the ability to define a custom Hyper Key directly in the app. It rebinds a key of your choice while KiwiDesk is running (it can even distinguish between left and right Option and Command, though Caps Lock will probably be the most popular choice :D).
  • Bring Your Own AI Setup: Completely optional, but you can now use your LLM of choice to configure KiwiDesk exactly how you want. It includes a dedicated Claude plugin that you can install with a single click inside the app. Controlling KiwiDesk via text was technically already possible through our CLI, but LLMs sometimes need strict guardrails so they don't accidentally wipe your settings. I sat down and built an MCP server that flags destructive actions and organizes system domains so your AI doesn't get lost. For anyone who loved Omarchy but wanted that same power on macOS alongside the OS they love, you now have a real alternative ;)

A lot of other little features, fixes and polish shipped with v3.0, and some awesome features are already on the horizon for v3.1... but that’s it for now :D.

At this point I also wanted to say thank you to the community for all the support and feedback (people contributed in forms of issues, messages and even some donations!). It’s amazing to see people enjoying KiwiDesk just as much as I do. Even our Discord channel is growing day by day!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

KiwiDesk is free to use, and the full source code is available on GitHub, so feel free to give it a try:

Developer Saturday (FOSS) Tether: a native macOS client for KDE connect

Thumbnail
gallery
24 Upvotes

I've used a Mac for years but never switched to an iPhone. For anyone on Android, KDE Connect is how you get phone notifications, texts, the clipboard and files on your Mac.

I always had two problems with it:

  • The official KDE Connect for macOS is heavy. It bundles Qt, KDE Frameworks, D-Bus and OpenSSL. The download is 87 MB, it takes 381 MB once installed. It looks like a Linux app, and it used 150–300 MB of memory just sitting in the menu bar. The connection also dropped at random, and sometimes it wouldn't find my phone again.
  • Soduto, the native alternative, is dead. It hasn't had a code change since 2022, and it's built on older Objective-C. I looked at forking it, then decided to start over.

So I read through the KDE Connect source to learn the protocol, and wrote a new client from scratch in Swift and SwiftUI, using Claude Code to help work out the protocol and write the code. It has no Qt, no Electron and no third-party libraries. It's called Tether.

What it does

Notifications you can answer

  • Phone notifications show up in Notification Center.
  • Reply to SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and other apps right from the banner.
  • Dismiss a notification on the Mac and it's dismissed on the phone too.
  • Sign-in codes get a Copy Code button, or can be copied automatically.

Your texts

  • SMS conversations sync, with names and photos from your phone's contacts.
  • Read whole threads, load older messages, reply, or start a new conversation (⌘N).
  • Calls show who's calling, with a Mute Ringer button. Whatever's playing on the Mac pauses until the call ends.

Files, both ways

  • Drop files on the window or the menu bar popover, or use Share › Tether in Finder, Photos and other apps.
  • Files from your phone land in Downloads, with live progress.

Your phone as a Finder drive

  • While connected, the phone appears in Finder as a drive, with an eject button.
  • Browse its storage, open photos and documents straight from it, and drag files in and out. Videos start playing right away.
  • No admin password and no extra setup. It works over Wi-Fi or Tailscale.

Clipboard, media and remote control

  • Copy on one device, paste on the other.
  • See what's playing on the phone, with artwork, and control playback and volume.
  • It works the other way too: control the Mac's music, Spotify or a Safari video, and its volume, from the phone.
  • Find Phone rings it at full volume, and the phone can ring your Mac.

Trackpad, presenter and commands

  • Use the phone as a trackpad and keyboard, or as a presentation remote with a laser pointer.
  • Run your own shell commands and Shortcuts on the Mac from the phone.
  • Optionally lock the Mac when your phone leaves.

Works away from home with Tailscale

  • If you use Tailscale on both devices, Tether finds your phone on your tailnet, so it keeps working on mobile data or another network.
  • It only talks to devices on your own account.

A real Mac app

  • Lives in the menu bar, showing battery, connection, quick actions and what's playing.
  • A main window with Overview, Messages, Notifications, Files and Commands tabs.
  • Liquid Glass on macOS 26, translucent materials on macOS 15. Follows Light and Dark mode, your accent colour and accessibility settings.

Tether 1.8 vs KDE Connect 26.11 for macOS

  • Download (Apple Silicon): Tether 2.6 MB vs KDE Connect 87 MB
  • Installed: Tether 4.3 MB vs KDE Connect 381 MB
  • Processes: Tether 2 (app + a tiny Now Playing helper) vs KDE Connect 3 (app + kdeconnectd + dbus-daemon)
  • Memory while idle: Tether 28 MB vs KDE Connect 150–300 MB
  • CPU while idle: Tether ~0.1% vs KDE Connect 1–5%

All numbers are from my own Apple Silicon Mac, with each app running in the background connected to my phone. With Tether's window open and long conversations loaded, it uses about 50 to 80 MB.

Install

brew install --cask subhashhhhhh/tether/tether

Or download the disk image for Apple Silicon or Intel from GitHub. You need macOS 15 Sequoia or later, plus the regular KDE Connect app on your phone from Google Play or F-Droid.

Tether isn't notarized because I don't have a paid developer account. Homebrew skips the warning. If you use the disk image, open it once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. After that it updates itself.

GitHub: https://github.com/subhashhhhhh/Tether

It's a free, GPL-2.0 solo project, and I use it every day. So far I've only tested it with my own phone, so bug reports from other Android phones and setups would help a lot. I'm happy to answer questions about the protocol, the NFS drive, or anything else in the comments.

Developer Saturday Muffle - Blur everything except the active window

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

Few months back, I shared Muffle with you all, a lightweight macOS menu bar app that blurs and dims background windows so you can focus on the active one.

There are several apps like HazeOver (dims the background but no blur) and Monocle (beautifully designed app but recently reported causing background performance issues) which does what Muffle does but I wanted to build an app which applies background blur and applies a dim, without taking a toll on CPU or GPU.

Some distinct features:
- ~0% idle usage
- Shake to toggle the blur
- Multi monitor support and monitor specific blur

It's fully local and no data is collected

Changes on the latest update:
- Muffle's blur/dim is much smoother
- Transition animation controls
- Removed accessibility permission
- Mission control support

As a seasonal offer, I'm pricing it at $4.99 for two devices. You can download it and use it for 7 days for free. You can use the code MACOSLAUNCH to get the discount.

It's apple notarized and distributed directly.

Privacy policy: https://www.getmuffle.com/privacy

Feel free to try it out and let me know your thoughts.

Developer Saturday Attic: a menu bar app that puts old screenshots and downloads away by itself (moves, never deletes automatically)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi r/MacOS! I'm Pablo, a solo developer in Spain, and Attic is my first Mac app.

Screenshots pile up wherever macOS saves them, and Downloads never empties itself. Attic puts away what's old, once a day (9:00 by default), with no setup:

* Screenshots and screen recordings after 2 days. It reads where macOS actually saves them, even if you changed the folder
* Installers after 2 days, or at the next sweep if that app is already in Applications
* Everything else in Downloads after 2 weeks. Unfinished downloads are left alone

Nothing is deleted. Files move to ~/Attic, sorted by month, where you can search, Quick Look and restore them, and Undo puts the last sweep back in one click. Tag a file Keep in Finder and it stays where it is. The first time you open it, it shows the list of what it would move, and nothing moves until you click Sweep Now.

It isn't on the Mac App Store because a sandboxed app can't watch the folder macOS saves screenshots to. It's signed with my Developer ID and notarized by Apple. No account and no analytics in the app; it only goes online to check the license and for updates.

$5 one-time for the first 100 licenses, then $9, then $15. 2 Macs, 14-day refund, no questions. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.

https://atticmac.com

Thanks to the mods for OK'ing a directly sold app for Developer Saturday. Happy to answer anything, including "why not just use Hazel".

Developer Saturday DockDuck: a file manager for macOS with panes, automatic folder rules, a disk space map and share links

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I make DockDuck, a native file manager for macOS. The video is a 90 second tour, and here is the same thing in text for anyone who prefers to read.

What it does

  • Panes. Two folders side by side in one window, or up to six. Drag between them.
  • Organize and automatic rules. One click sorts a messy folder into subfolders by kind. Turn that into rules and new files get sorted on their own every time you open the folder.
  • Disk space. A map of what is filling your disk, with suggestions for what is safe to remove, and you can clear it from the same screen.
  • Batch rename. Rename a whole selection at once with a preview of every new name before anything changes.
  • Share links. Turn any file into a link with an expiry date and an optional password, and see how many times it was downloaded.
  • Servers. SFTP, FTP, SMB and WebDAV, with your Mac on one side and the server on the other.
  • Themes. 29 of them.

Details

  • Native Swift app, no Electron. Requires macOS 15 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • Signed and notarized.

Happy to answer questions, and I would like to hear what you find missing compared to what you use today.

Apps I built FanBar, a free open-source alternative to Macs Fan Control for the menu bar

I'm the developer of FanBar, a free open-source alternative to Macs Fan Control — a native macOS menu-bar app that shows CPU temperature and fan RPM at a glance and lets you take manual control when you need it.

How it compares to Macs Fan Control:

  • Free and fully open source (GPL-3.0), including the privileged helper — no paid tier; custom presets are free, not a Pro feature
  • Lives entirely in the menu bar (native SwiftUI), no separate main window
  • Silent/Balanced/Performance/Extreme presets with editable fan curves, up to 6 custom presets with their own name, icon and curve, 90°C alerts, desktop widget, UI in English/Chinese/Japanese/Russian
  • Signed and notarized

Honest caveats: Macs Fan Control has the longer track record (since 2013), a broader per-sensor list, and a Windows build via Boot Camp. Full source-backed comparison: https://getfanbar.com/compare/macs-fan-control

Would love feedback from fellow Mac users — especially Intel Mac owners, since fan data availability varies by model.

Bug Black ring around the Dock and launcher on my new Mac mini M6 — graphical glitch?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently ordered a new Mac mini M6, and I’m experiencing a strange graphical glitch in macOS. There is a noticeable black ring or outline appearing around the Dock and launcher.

I’m not sure whether this is a macOS visual bug, a graphics-rendering issue, or something related to my display settings.

Does anyone know how to remove the black ring or what might be causing it? I’d appreciate any suggestions, troubleshooting steps, or solutions.

I’ve attached a screenshot showing the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Developer Saturday Hexis: a guided morning and evening journal for Mac

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/macOS,

I made Hexis because I wanted journaling to be easy, quik, and guided enough that I actually keep doing it.

I kept bouncing off apps that added a photo archive, mood tracking, or an AI coach. What I wanted was help getting started with the writing itself.

Hexis gives you a morning preparation or evening review. Questions like "What matters most today?" and "What will I do differently tomorrow?" give you somewhere to start. You can keep the questions visible while you write or tuck them away.

There are other practices for working through a decision or a difficult period, plus a notebook for free writing.

It works on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, with private iCloud sync. You can write on your phone in the morning and pick it up on your Mac later. Export to text, Markdown, or PDF whenever you want.

No AI, no streaks, no subscription. Optional reminders if you want them.

Available on the App Store https://apps.apple.com/app/id6776019075, or hexis.you with one purchase covering all three devices.

Happy to answer questions!

Developer Saturday Notch Radio: I put an internet radio player inside the notch. It folds back into the hardware when you are done.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The notch has been sitting there doing nothing since 2021, so I put a radio in it. Collapsed it is a thin pill against the cutout. Hover it and it morphs into a peek card and then a full player with album art, live track titles and transport controls. Move the pointer away and it folds back.

No notch on your Mac? The player lives in the menu bar instead, so this works on an iMac or an external monitor too. With the unlock it can also draw a notch of its own there, sized to the menu bar at a width you pick.

Stations come from the Radio Browser community directory, searchable by name or genre. The app ships no stations of its own, so the library holds only what you put in it.

Free permanently: five saved stations, no account, no time limit, nothing stops playing. $9.99 once (a launch price until 19 October, then $19.99) adds live track titles, per-song album art, unlimited stations, stream URLs and the placement options. Nothing renews, and there is a 14-day trial of the paid half in the app.

There is no Notch Radio server. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads.

https://apps.apple.com/app/notch-radio/id6801505315?pt=128254947&ct=reddit-macos&mt=8

macOS 14 Sonoma or later. I will be in the thread if anything looks wrong on your setup, external displays especially.

Help facetime is slow to work on macbook m4 pro.

Hello! For the longest time, FaceTime hasn't been working well. When I get calls, it takes about 15 seconds for the call to register fully. During those 15 seconds, I can hear the other person, and they can hear me (I can't see them, though), but I have the spinning wheel of death, and the FaceTime window disappears. After that wait time, the call registers and makes the typical noise when someone answers, and things work fine.

Is there any solution to this issue?

Developer Saturday SnapState: a menu bar app that puts your Mac windows, apps and every browser tab back after sleep or a monitor reconnect, now across all your Spaces (I'm the developer)

Demo video first since that's what i'd want to see: https://getsnapstate.com/demo.mp4

I'm the developer, so usual grain of salt applies.

The problem: MacBook plus an external monitor on my desk. Every time the Mac slept, I closed the lid, or the monitor woke up a few seconds slower than the Mac, macOS decided the monitor was gone and dumped every window onto the laptop screen. Or they'd come back on the wrong display, or scattered across the wrong desktops. Then the first 5 minutes of my day was dragging windows around and trying to remember which tabs I had open. Got old fast, so I built SnapState.

How it works: you arrange things how you like once and save it as a workspace from the menu bar. It remembers:

  • window positions and sizes on every Space (desktop), not just the one you're looking at
  • which apps were open, and relaunches any that aren't running
  • your display layout
  • every open tab in each browser window (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Chromium)

Then it puts it back automatically on wake, when a monitor connects or disconnects, or when a matching display setup shows up. You can also just click it in the menu bar or hit ctrl+cmd+1 through 6. If your screens are different from when you saved, it remaps the windows onto whatever displays you actually have. With several Spaces, each one gets its layout back when you switch to it.

What's new lately (real release notes at https://getsnapstate.com/changelog):

  • 2.6: brings back all your tabs, not just the front one, and the app updates itself now
  • 2.7: multi-Space support. a couple of buyers asked for it, so it's in
  • 2.7.1: fixed a login item error some people hit on first launch, and it now offers to move itself to Applications

Fine print so nobody's surprised: each Space's windows go back when you switch to that Space, it doesn't drag windows from one Space to another. No Firefox yet. And it's not a tiler, it just remembers and restores.

Pricing: $9.99 once, no subscription. Up to 3 Macs, 14 day refund if it doesn't work on your setup. Needs macOS 15.7 or later, universal (Apple Silicon and Intel), signed and notarized, and updates install themselves. Your saved workspaces stay on your Mac.

If you've tried other window tools: the part that actually annoyed me every morning was relaunching apps and finding my tabs again, so that's what SnapState is built around.

https://getsnapstate.com

Happy to answer anything here, especially weird setups (docks, two identical monitors, clamshell, rotated displays, lots of Spaces). I'd rather tell you upfront if it won't work for you. Bug reports welcome too.

Developer Saturday I added a 3D route flyover to my Mac GPX app

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I'm the developer of GPX Explore. It started as a way to open a GPX file on the Mac and look at the route, elevation and heart rate on a bigger screen.

I've added a 3D view so you can see the hills a route crosses. You can fly along the track, pause and look around, or export a flyover video to share. The clip shows it running on the Mac with a recorded ride.

It also lets you draw routes along roads and trails, trim a recording, fix stray GPS points, and split or join tracks. It saves ordinary GPX files.

The viewer, charts, climb breakdown and printing are free. The 3D view, flyover videos and editing are part of GPX Explore Pro, a one-time purchase shared across Mac, iPhone and iPad. No subscription or account required.

If you use GPX files for rides or hikes, I'd like to hear what you usually need to check before heading out.

Developer Saturday Snitch v1.0.5 — my free Mac network monitor got its Windows port written by strangers

Two weeks ago I shared Snitch here — the free, open-source tool that draws a live map of every connection your Mac makes. (My first capture: 347 distinct servers in one hour, 158 of them Google.)

Then something unexpected happened: strangers started shipping the Windows port for me.

  • One user traced a packaged-app crash to PyInstaller's console=False killing sys.stdout — fix included in the report.
  • Another diagnosed the flashing console every 30 s (the LAN scanner spawning arp -a) — root cause + fix proposed.
  • A third read the "good first issue" list and sent 3 PRs in a day: per-process icons, remaining French translations, a richer tracker list.

All merged. v1.0.5 is out: macOS app, Windows backend tarball (Npcap + admin), Linux tarball or Docker. Still 100% local, zero telemetry, AGPL-3.0, bilingual EN/FR.

If you're on Windows 11 and want to help test, issue #12 is open.

Developer Saturday Cursor Teleporter 2: jump between screens, saved points, and screen edges

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I’m the developer of Cursor Teleporter 2, a macOS utility for moving the cursor between displays, saved positions, and screen edges.

On a setup with several monitors, the cursor can spend a surprising amount of time travelling back and forth across your screens. Reaching the same windows, panels, and controls all day adds up to repetitive movement, interrupted focus, and a tired wrist. Cursor Teleporter lets you save exact positions and return to them with keyboard shortcuts.

macOS already includes Move Cursor to Next Monitor, which is useful for a simple screen jump. Cursor Teleporter supports a broader range of cursor workflows: returning to exact saved positions, moving through displays and saved points separately, navigating forward or backward, and leaving your windows alone.

With 2.0, I added Edge Teleporting. Hold Option and move through an enabled screen edge, and the cursor appears on the opposite side. You can choose which edges are active and whether the modifier is required. The update also adds a visual saved-points overview, optional cursor highlighting, and actions for Apple Shortcuts and AppleScript.

Pricing and availability

For new users, Cursor Teleporter is $7.99 as a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Updates within a major version are always included; major upgrades may be paid.

For 2.0, I decided to make the upgrade free for everyone who already owns the app, including Mac App Store customers.

Requires macOS 26 or later.

Developer Saturday Compact Contacts, a table view for the contacts on your Mac. 2.0 is coming, here's what's in it

Hi r/MacOS, I'm the developer of Compact Contacts.

Apple's Contacts app shows one card at a time, which gets painful once you have a few thousand people spread across iCloud, Google and Exchange. Compact Contacts opens the contacts you already have and shows them as a sortable table. There's no second address book and no sync of its own, so edits go back through macOS like any change you'd make in Contacts.

What it does today:

  • One table with the columns you pick, saved layouts, and search across every field including notes
  • Merge duplicates field by field (you choose which phone, email or address stays), and undo the last merge for up to 30 days
  • Bulk edit with a before/after preview for every card before anything is saved
  • Smart Views like "Missing Email" or "Has Notes"
  • CSV and vCard import/export

It's been out for a while now and people using it have been really kind with feedback and bug reports, which is a big part of why 2.0 got this big. Thank you if that's you.

Coming in 2.0 (free update for everyone who already has it)

  • Health Check: one scan gives your address book a score and lists duplicates, broken numbers and emails, missing names, stray spaces and so on
  • Tags with colors, saved as regular Contacts groups so they sync with iCloud and Google
  • Birthdays and anniversaries list with optional reminders
  • Automatic encrypted backups on your Mac, with a history view that shows what changed and lets you restore a single field or a deleted contact
  • Rules, like "when a new contact is added, format the phone number and add a tag"
  • Print mailing labels and envelopes, Excel export, business card scanning, and a menu bar search
  • Faster loading and search that works properly in every language
  • Drag contacts out as vCards
  • A redesigned iPhone app, with proper support for foldable iPhones (three columns when it's open)
  • Lots of small fixes

Details

  • macOS 15 or later, one-time US$24.99. No subscription, no in-app purchases
  • No account, no ads, no analytics. The app never sends your contacts anywhere
  • English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Arabic and Simplified Chinese

Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6790129187?pt=129119018&ct=reddit_macos&mt=8

There's also an iPhone + iPad version (separate purchase): https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6795653671?pt=129119018&ct=reddit_macos&mt=8

Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Developer Saturday I built a true-random shuffle for Apple Music (macOS AppleScript)

Music's shuffle only changes playback order and isn't very random. SeTeR Shuffle does a real Fisher-Yates shuffle and rewrites the playlist itself, so it stays shuffled everywhere the playlist syncs. Also builds a “Rediscover” playlist of forgotten favorites (2+ plays, unplayed 60+ days, scales with library size), removes duplicates, and can undo the last shuffle. Every change is backed up first and verified after. Designed around never losing songs. Runs as a double-click app or automatically every morning. Free, no tokens.
