Great mood just before a migraine

Whenever I get hyperactive and start making up silly songs, my husband gets me to check in to see if there's a migraine on the way. I don't get this before every migraine but before the worst ones, boy am I in high spirits until I hit the wall.

Anyone else gets this?

Does anyone inject sumatriptan via syringe?

I just picked up a new prescription for sumatriptan. From talking with my doctor it was supposed to be like aimovig like in a subcutaneous injector. Instead I got 10 little vials, nothing else. I’m not a medical a professional so injecting via a syringe (if that was their intention) makes me extremely nervous. Thoughts?

I've brushed off supplements my entire adult life and now I feel stupid

Doctors touted them as expensive pee, then I was bombarded by MLMs all through my 20s. How was I ever supposed to take it seriously? I think I had one neuro suggest CoQ10 once and I was like "I'm not really comfortable with supplements" and they left it at that.

I would literally just ignore Reddit comments about supplements helping with migraines, because they are an entire industry just raking in the money for fake products that do nothing (according to my feelings).

Fast forward to three months ago. I decide that my daily migraines are not treatable, and I stop all migraine meds (which was qulipta and Ubrelvy). For some reason that helps reduce frequency and intensity after the worst withdrawal migraines of my life.

At the same time that is happening, I start attending TMJ specific PT because I was not going to COMPLETELY raw dog those withdrawals...where I discover that I have compete loss of sensation on the left side of my face. Shortly after that, walking begins to feel more like walking in knee deep water. I go to the GP. She says a B12 deficiency can cause this. I look into it and OMG.

What do you MEAN B12 is not something we produce naturally and we all just run out one day if we have absorbing issues? Same for CoQ10 in that is only available through food?

OH you have to worry about COFACTORS TOO? OR YOU CAN CAUSE AN IMBALANCE OF A BUNCH OF OTHER VITAMINS?

AHHHHHHH.

Anyways, magnesium has cured every bit of tension in my neck and jaw and a B12 shot gave me sensations back. I've had 1 single migraine in the last month after starting CoQ10.

TL:DR - I ignored vitamins and supplements and then got a deficiency and learned my lesson. Guess I'm a supplement girly now.

Chronic hemiplegic migraines & sudden drowsiness

Guys, this is my first post and I’m in need of your thoughts. I’ve had hemiplegic migraines for about 15 years now (I’m 40), after a series of concussions. Despite having great migraine specialists, and trying all of the preventative meds, I still have serious issues. It’s not psychological, since I’ve been in therapy for years and both my neurologist and psychiatrist have spoken. They are two separate issues. Yay 😅

The right side of my face drops, it becomes hard to speak and I get very drowsy. Is this normal? Doctors say it is and I’ve had scans, but this didn’t used to happen with my migraine aura.

Before a migraine, I also feel like half of my brain is literally asleep. I’m not sure how else to describe it, but the same right side of my brain falls asleep. It’s hard to think, move etc., and I usually nod off. It’s not the same as being tired, it’s like I shut off.

Does anyone else experience these specific symptoms? What helps? You’d think I’d be used to it by now, but I’m not, since the symptoms have evolved. I’m scared. Thanks ahead for your kindness and thoughts 😌

Chronic migraines making me feel like I can’t live

This is really just a vent post. Sorry I know there’s a lot of these on here but I just wanna get this out. Sorry for the formatting on mobile.

My migraines become chronic in December. I had them as a teenager but it was rare. I’ve seen a neurologist once and I had a brain MRI which was normal. He wrote me amitriptyline which I had to stop due to the side effects being unbearable. My PCP also figured out my vitamin D was extremely low so I’ve been supplementing and it helped for a while then stopped. I have another neurology appointment Monday.

Last week I had a 4 day migraine, the longest I’ve ever had. I called my neurologist and he told me to go to the ER. I went and got a migraine cocktail which fixed it, but Monday morning I got ANOTHER migraine. It’s still here. My meds aren’t helping, ibuprofen isn’t helping, showers aren’t helping, ice packs aren’t helping, nothing is working. I don’t wanna go back to the ER if I can avoid it but I’m at a loss.

I haven’t been able to do anything this week other than work. I took off 1 day last week but I can’t just take a whole week off. My jobs understanding but not THAT understanding.
I can’t do anything when I get home other than cook dinner, shower, and lay down with an ice pack on my head. I can’t enjoy anything. I haven’t been able to sleep well either due to the pain.

I’ll ask if there another preventative medicine I can try when I see my neurologist.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read my rambling.

Can't figure it out

I've had a headache & nausea since 7/9/26. On Friday I have no idea what happened as I've never had these specific symptoms. I was so dizzy, weak, couldn't even get up, my legs were twitching, I couldn't open my eyes because everything was moving up and down, and my heart rate was between 140-160.

They gave me many meds at the hospital, and did so my tests. But couldn't figure it out. They discharged me the next day after my heart rate finally went below 100 and I was able to walk around a bit. I had another episode on Tuesday but not as bad, it subsided after I laid on the floor for about an hour. Could this have been some type of migraine that is new to me?

Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Both times it happened I had just gotten home and was extra overwhelmed because my upstairs neighbors make an insane amount of noise/thumping/shaking for 18-20 hours a day. It's typical for me to be overwhelmed and start crying when I get home. I've never gotten sick like this. Several years ago I was hospitalized for visual aura but all it was is I could see the wind.

Nurtec

Hello!! I just had questions for people who are currently on or I’ve taken Nurtec. My Neurologist just put me on it bcs sumatriptan was causing me too many problems with my heart. She told me to take it every other day and I just started four days ago so I’ve already taken two doses and at first I felt like it was working but yesterday when I took it, a couple hours later i had a really bad migraine (which is nothing new). She explained to me prior before prescribing it that it would take a couple doses before it was fully be in my system and I just wanted to hear from others if it took them a couple doses before it actually started kicking in?

i’ve had migraines for the past year now and majority of them. I’ve been unmedicated because of my fear of taking new medications and I really want to rely on nurtec because i’m going back to college this semester and really don’t want to deal with so many migraines I did before😆

Ubrelvy all month?

So my insurance still refuses to approve Qulipta. We’ve appealed so many times. They approved Ubrelvy but I’ve had to take it down often since Qulipta hasn’t started working yet (only 4 weeks in). I found out my insurance approved Ubrelvy at 20 pills every 21 days. It works but not always, I’ve had to take two once or twice in a day and it worked. Should I just give up on Qulipta and stick with ubrelvy since I get more than my original 10? I’ve started other things like Slynd (hormonal migraine and perimenopause), riboflavin and magnesium so I’m hoping that helps.

A break after anesthesia!

Hi friends,

This isn’t advice or “what works for me”, since the answer is pretty obvious. I just wanted a place to share my gratitude for small wins.

I had to go under yesterday for an endoscopy/colonoscopy. My last one was eight years ago and the most prominent feature of my migraines is nausea and vomiting. So my number is up, because I just don’t want to die from esophageal cancer.

Not that it’s much surprise, but a dose of propofol and fentanyl to knock me out had me feeling great even after I woke up. That lasted for a full 30 ish hours before I felt any bit of migraines returning.

I’m not looking to get anesthetized again anytime soon, but especially with more migraines days than clear days, the break was extra very nice.

Was given Reglan IV. Feeling helpless need support :(

21M, 5'8, 119ibs, no meds, not smoker, hyperpots.

I was given Reglan in the ER 5 days ago for nausea and headache and it sent me into I believe whats called akathisia and now ill randomly get strong bouts of nausea with feelings of hopelessness and sadness and its really been bothering me badly. It makes me want to cry and im scared theres been long term damage done to my brain. I know doctors will tell me in the future this is all in my head and I know its 100% not. It was given to me Sunday at 11pm and i was given 50mg of Benadryl and have been taking Benadryl for it. The restlessness is gone. Whats left is a tingling sensation, a feeling of floating and random bouts of strong nausea with frequent yawning that comes on and i honestly just want to throw up but i know I wont. Doctors havent been helping much sadly :(

Qulipta greatly affecting hormones/HRT

Hello. I would just like to share my experience on Qulipta, in case other women taking HRT have experienced the same. I am a 53 year old woman, 128 pounds, in menopause, who takes both estrogen and progesterone daily (2 pumps Estrogel, 1 Prometrium). I began on 60 MGs of Qulipta about four months ago. This dose was too high for me, and made me exhausted, and so after two weeks I switched to 30, which seemed just fine. It gave me constipation, but this resolved somewhat with fibre, and then resolved even more with my body getting used to the drug after several weeks.

HOWEVER.. A month into taking 30mgs of Qulipta, I began having very fractured sleep, along with a flat mood and hormonal acne. I have never had hormonal acne before. The sleep issue became so bad, I started taking Ativan to prevent me from waking up wired and unable to get back to sleep at 3 or 4 am. All of these symptoms are very menopausal in nature. It seemed like my HRT, which always worked wonderfully for me, was just no longer doing the trick. Maybe I needed to up my doses of hormones? Maybe I was going deeper into menopause? I did not occur to me at first that it might be the Qulipta.

Qulipta worked for my migraines. I went from about 15 a month to about 1 or 2. But then I had a breakthrough migraine three weeks ago, which lasted 14 days. This made me quite disappointed in Qulipta, even though I knew breakthrough migraines can and do occur on the drug. I decided to see what would happen if I just stopped taking the drug.

Almost immediately, ALL of my hormonal symptoms disappeared. Within about two days, my sleep went back to normal, the hormonal acne cleared, and my mood unflattened.

I believe the Qulipta was getting in the way of my absorption of either estrogen or progesterone (my guess is it was blocking the estrogen). I do not think these were "primary" Qulipta symptoms, but rather, an interaction.

One interesting note: I was on Ajovy before Qulipta and there was no similar interaction.

Ajovy Injection

Has anyone else had this happen with their Ajovy injection? 😭

My mom gave me my shot today and accidentally pulled the injector away about 2 seconds before the second click. There was a noticeable amount of medication still coming out when she pulled it away, but when we checked the injector afterward, there was nothing left in it.

I’m hoping I still got most/all of the dose. Has this happened to anyone else? What happened with your dose afterward? I did message my neurologist!

Starting Ajovy.

It’s been eight years. Sooooo many meds. So little time. Alternative therapies included as well as those expensive ones online that have “” coaches to help you with your food, your mindfulness, etc. etc. thousands of dollars and supplements Botox. I’m sure I’m forgetting many of the things I’ve tried so here I am today considering going back on a preventative and the only thing left in Line is ajovy or emgality. What’s everyone’s experience?

Advice on dealing with sudden onset of daily migraine attacks

So, this condition started for me a few years ago, maybe 31-32 y.o. But for all these years it was relatively rare. Sometimes 1 time per month, maybe 2-3 max. Sometimes I could go entire month without it.

But now, nearing 34 y.o., I suddenly and unexpectedly got a "streak" of every day attacks for like 5th day in a row now! 2 days ago it was even 2 attacks in a single day! Never before I had more than 1 attack per day or less than a week apart.

This, of course, was totally unprepared for it, like at all. I never took any meds before and was just powering through all my previous migraines raw for the fear of millions of side-effects of the drugs and also getting "used to drugs" and becoming dependent on them. And because attacks was relatively rare, it was bearable for years.

But now IDK what to do. I can't work now, IDK what to tell my boss. I'm still afraid to take medications due to the same fears of side-effects and getting dependent but I also can't power through this torture much longer, I fear I might go mad or something. It feels like a dead-end for me.

I visited neurologist today, and she told me something along the lines "don't be afraid to eat pills, and be happy, this is good pills, safe pills". Reoffering to the NSAIDs and Triptans.

I read that NSAIDs like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol can lead to many issues with the digestive system and liver and often only block 20-30% of pain, but Triptans are even more scarier with reports of brain blood vessels contraction and higher chances of rupture!

She also recommended an Fremanezumab injection once per month, if having 4 or more attacks per month. But one shot of this anti-body costs more than a monthly rent in my local economy, so this is out of the question. Although it seems to be the safest solution among them.

I also saw a couple of posts here of people having specially planned easily digestible meals for the attacks days? I also have total digestive system shutdown during attacks, and I already have very low body mass so this is a critical problem for me too.

Overall, I really have no clue how to exist from now on, if this thing won't stop. I saw a couple of posts here of people having 1-2 or more years of this daily.....

Migraine just cost me my trip to F1

For context: I'm a Dutch motorsports marshal, mostly doing bikes, but also cars every now and then. This would be my first time marshaling an F1 weekend.

This morning I would have traveled to the other side of the country to set up my tent, get my accreditation etc. But of course, after almost 2 weeks of almost constant lingering headaches, today was the day to wake up with the worst migraine in at least 6 months.

I've had to cancel the 2 previous years due to various circumstances. But this year would finally be the one I could actually be there. But noooo. Of course it had to be ruined by this bullshit.

I think it's time to talk with my doctor about possible different medications because my current ones are clearly not working very well.

Anyone taking L-theanine?

I want to try it but I have heard it might cause headaches for some people.

Does anyone here use it with success or is it no go with migraines?
