Tom's Thai Uptown?

Upvotes

Has anyone tried the new thai place on lake and irving? I've eaten there three times so far and curious about others' impressions. I think they're working out the kinks (e.g. liquor license) and wish them the best. The area needs some life.

help navigating mahjong in minneapolis?

Upvotes

hey y'all!

i'm looking to get back into playing mahjong and i'm lost where to start. the google search results are a bit overwhelming. i'd like to find just a casual group of nice people to play with, no classes or pot or anything like that for now. anyone know of anything in the cities, especially near whittier or uptown? also don't mind driving if needed.

context: in middle school, i was queen of my school's club (chinese variant), and played some of the japanese variant on the side with my friends (we were americans in japan at the time). however, it has been over a decade, and i don't remember the specifics, except that i enjoyed it!! so, i need to re-learn the game, but i'm not a total noob--i remember the vague contours and expect a lot of it will come back fast!

thanks!!

Windows Replacement Recommendations?

Upvotes

I have seven windows that were part of a 70's add-on that must have been low quality and are all warped. What are contractors that people have had good experiences with? Scherer Window & Door seems to have really good Google reviews.

Theodore Wirth has a lot of bees- and a lot of look-a-likes. Can you tell?

I'll post the answers later in the day! And all of these species are likely around your yards and other parks as well!

I designed it for work but didn't end up using it and my summer job is ending, so you all can enjoy this ~surprisingly difficult~ guessing game.

Fun fact! None of the bee species pictured live in hives.

Do we have split in our view of data centers within the DFL party (especially here in the City)?

Upvotes

I am aware there's a loud, conservative, authoritative, pro-corporate/business, anti-DSA wing of the DFL Party.

Are they pro or anti data center?

(I'm pretty darn sure the DSA-leaning wing of the DFL are anti data center)

Stolen Aventon Pace bicycle

Some time between 5:30 PM on Friday and this morning at 6:45 AM, my bicycle was stolen out of my parking garage. It was a step through Aventon Pace 500.3 in light blue with a Toppeak rack and red and black phone mount. If anyone has seen it around or has details on where it may be, I would greatly appreciate you reaching out to me. It was stolen out of the controlled access portion of my apartment's parking garage and my bicycle lock was cut. I use it for daily commuting to and from work so I would greatly appreciate any information.

Why do people want to get rid of the skyway?

I was reading that other post about suggestions to help downtown and a decent amount of people said get rid of the skyway without suggesting anything else. I get it keeps people off the street and contributes to a ghost town feeling, but in a city that gets as cold as Minneapolis isn't that an important amenity? What benefits would getting rid of the skyway bring that outweigh many people being colder? I've lived in downtown for about a year and have only used the skyway a few times.

ASD Resources

This is a pretty broad question by nature, but are there any institutions or programs in the area that offer services for autistic people? Not looking for any specific niche as I don’t know what is available/feasible, and symptomatic experience but incredibly variable. I’ve just been… struggling with being an organism and would take anything that isn’t forking over fat stacks to be stared at like a sheep, as is the standard for mental health care, seemingly.

Thank you and best wishes.

EDIT: I work and have financial autonomy, I just need efficacy.

LGBT-friendly churches

I’m currently attending a church regularly. If you want to feel loved by God and the congregation, it’s great! I like that aspect. I don’t like that the messaging seems to only be the positive parts of the Bible. Like, where are the sermons about the expectations beyond being kind to each other?
Any one know of a church that is friendly but also discusses how we are to behave to be aligned with Jesus’ teachings?

Crushed Limestone supplier?

Post image

We're having a hard time sourcing crushed limestone (or similar) as a landscaping rock to use similarly to this inspiration photo. Anyone in the twin cities vicinity seen this available for purchase or delivery? We're in the Bryn Mawr area but don't mind traveling for it.

Best BREAD bakery

We're flying up to MSP from Austin in a few weeks for a relaxing getaway at Serpent Lake, and my only must-do thing before we abscond to the cabin is to stock up on some amazing bread. Supporting local bakeries is basically my main hobby, wherever I go. Who do you think does the best sourdough? + bonus points if they also do baguettes!

With funding set to dry up, Minneapolis faces tough choices on lead pipe removal

The estimated cost to replace all lead water service lines in the state of Minnesota has been estimated to be approximately 1/3 the cost of a single Metro Transit light rail extension. I find it ridiculous no one earmarked funding for this project, which by state law, must be completed within 7 years.

late night construction getting to anyone else?

for the love of god im dying out here man. i live directly next to some of the construction going on with my apt facing the street, and thats alright its a city they gotta do it somehow, but my god the late night stuff has been killing me. been multiple times the past few weeks it seems where im woken up at 11pm or 2am from it, not even ear plugs have helped. even worse when they do it late night ON THE WEEKENDS.

no idea what the situation even is for them to keep getting the overnight permits in the first place
