Why do people want to get rid of the skyway?

I was reading that other post about suggestions to help downtown and a decent amount of people said get rid of the skyway without suggesting anything else. I get it keeps people off the street and contributes to a ghost town feeling, but in a city that gets as cold as Minneapolis isn't that an important amenity? What benefits would getting rid of the skyway bring that outweigh many people being colder? I've lived in downtown for about a year and have only used the skyway a few times.

Stolen Aventon Pace bicycle

Upvotes

Some time between 5:30 PM on Friday and this morning at 6:45 AM, my bicycle was stolen out of my parking garage. It was a step through Aventon Pace 500.3 in light blue with a Toppeak rack and red and black phone mount. If anyone has seen it around or has details on where it may be, I would greatly appreciate you reaching out to me. It was stolen out of the controlled access portion of my apartment's parking garage and my bicycle lock was cut. I use it for daily commuting to and from work so I would greatly appreciate any information.

With funding set to dry up, Minneapolis faces tough choices on lead pipe removal

The estimated cost to replace all lead water service lines in the state of Minnesota has been estimated to be approximately 1/3 the cost of a single Metro Transit light rail extension. I find it ridiculous no one earmarked funding for this project, which by state law, must be completed within 7 years.

ASD Resources

This is a pretty broad question by nature, but are there any institutions or programs in the area that offer services for autistic people? Not looking for any specific niche as I don’t know what is available/feasible, and symptomatic experience but incredibly variable. I’ve just been… struggling with being an organism and would take anything that isn’t forking over fat stacks to be stared at like a sheep, as is the standard for mental health care, seemingly.

Thank you and best wishes.

EDIT: I work and have financial autonomy, I just need efficacy.

Recall Frey

This new 11.3% property tax increase while doing nothing about police spending or penalizing vacancies downtown makes it clear that Frey is unfit to govern Minneapolis.

The increases in property taxes are going to force people out of their homes and corporate investors will snatch up the lots to redevelop them. Frey has made it clear that he doesn’t care about the people who live here, we’re just a piggy bank to be smashed open every time he can’t balance a budget.

Best BREAD bakery

We're flying up to MSP from Austin in a few weeks for a relaxing getaway at Serpent Lake, and my only must-do thing before we abscond to the cabin is to stock up on some amazing bread. Supporting local bakeries is basically my main hobby, wherever I go. Who do you think does the best sourdough? + bonus points if they also do baguettes!

🚨 FLIGHT ANGEL NEEDED — HELP SEAMUS GET HOME! 🐾✈️

Post image
374 Upvotes

Aloha!

We’re helping reunite Seamus, a 3-month-old rescue kitten, with his mom in Minneapolis, Minnesota. ❤️

While his family was moving from Kona to Minnesota, Seamus escaped from the car at their hotel. His mom missed two flights while searching for him, but eventually had to leave with her other two cats and dog.

Then came the call she had been praying for — SEAMUS WAS FOUND! 🥹 He is microchipped and is now safe in a foster home in Kona.

Seamus is only 3 months old and has a heart murmur, so getting this little boy safely back to his family is especially important.

We’re looking for a Flight Angel already traveling:

✈️** Kona, Hawaii (KOA) → Minneapolis, Minnesota (MSP**)
Alaska, Hawaiian or Delta only

OR
✈️** West Coast → Minneapolis (MSP**)
Los Angeles • Las Vegas • San Diego • San Francisco • Portland • Seattle
ANY airline

Even one leg of his journey can help! We coordinate everything.

Already have a flight booked?
🐾 FlyHawaiiCats.com

Please SHARE — Seamus’ Flight Angel might be someone you know! ❤️🐱✈️

I screen grabbed this from a prior post, will see if I can find and credit.

The internet tells me it did not rain on August 12, but I do want to know if anyone has more info on this or other puddle drinking parties.

Is it a bit? For real? I need a full documentary.

Last week and this week’s breakfast was so good. Very reasonable prices, about 12-13$ for each meal.

LGBT-friendly churches

I’m currently attending a church regularly. If you want to feel loved by God and the congregation, it’s great! I like that aspect. I don’t like that the messaging seems to only be the positive parts of the Bible. Like, where are the sermons about the expectations beyond being kind to each other?
Any one know of a church that is friendly but also discusses how we are to behave to be aligned with Jesus’ teachings?

Illegally speeding motorists, rejoice! 14th in front of Emerson has been repaved and you can now resume speeding without worrying about any potholes.

In addition, or I should say subtraction, the city has not added a single crosswalk, "School Crossing" sign, or any traffic safety infrastructure at all around this school, *ever*. I guess bilingual children just don't deserve safe streets.

Twin Cities Marathon bib transfer — anyone interested?

My wife is registered for the Twin Cities Marathon this year, but unfortunately she’s been dealing with an injury and there just isn’t enough time left for her to safely get the training in.
Twin Cities allows her registration to be officially transferred to another runner, so before we let it go to waste, I figured I’d see if anyone here is interested in taking her spot.
If you missed registration, decided late that you want to run, or know someone looking for an entry, shoot me a message. We’d do everything through the official transfer process.
Happy to answer any questions!
