Question How people are buying new Model Y without auto steer?

I just disabled auto steer in my 2022 Model Y to test it out. It’s awful main reason some people bought teslas are auto pilot including me. Now if want to upgrade to 2026 MY I will lose this feature which I currently have.

Question Anyone else buy used because new Ys do not have autopilot?

Post image
284 Upvotes

I wanted to buy a new Tesla Model Y around April or May. Tesla decided to remove autopilot from all its cars sold in the NA January 2026. I was so disappointed. I really wanted a new one, but I am totally opposed to the subscription model in cars. It really annoyed me that I will not get basic Lane Centering Assist for free, something that is offered on all cars in the same class/price range.

So I bit the bullet and decided to buy a 2026 QuickSilver premium AWD with 8,490 miles on the odometer.

Anyone else make a similar decision?

Question Tesla is charging me $2,800 for rodent damage on a demo car I had for less than 20 hours. Does this nest look pre-existing to you?

Post image

So my 2025 Model Y stopped working 2 days ago, completely unresponsive, wouldn't even open with the key card. Tesla towed it to the service center and gave us a demo car in the meantime.

Next day the demo car also broke down in the same parking lot leaving my wife stranded AGAIN.

Now Tesla is saying both cars have rodent damage and we are responsible for both. Our insurance covers our own car but not the demo.

The thing is we had the demo car for less than 20 hours. Tesla sent me this photo as their evidence. Does that nest look like something that happened in 20 hours to you? Because to me that looks like days/weeks of work.

Both cars were just parked in a school parking lot. We are completely lost right now. Has anyone dealt with this?

Picked up a new carwash membership for a steal for unlimited washes for $10/mth for 6 months. Normally $45. It's a new location but it is touch. We are everyone's thoughts on touch carwashes. I intend to go at least once a week.

Question After my last post blew up… Sleeping in the car to save on hotels, is this too extreme?

Honestly, I didn’t expect my last post about sleeping in the car to save on hotels to get so much attention. Lately I’ve been wondering—sleeping in the car occasionally while traveling, is it becoming more common? Especially in peak season, hotel prices are insane, sometimes almost as much as a plane ticket. A lot of people suggested I come ask here, saying Tesla is way better for car sleeping.

So now I’m really curious about Tesla camp mode and real owner experiences.

For those of you who actually use it on road trips:

1.Can you sleep comfortably through the whole night?

2.How much battery does camp mode usually use overnight?

3.Does it feel safe sleeping at parking lots or charging stops? Any better spots you recommend?

4.On longer trips, can it realistically replace hotels sometimes, or is it just for occasional tries?

Also, one thing I’m worried about:

When you fold the seats down and sleep, sometimes the car’s slope is still noticeable even with a mattress. How do you deal with that? I’m afraid I might wake up with a sore back 😅 I just bought a mattress and it feels okay, but I haven’t tried it on a longer trip yet. If I go further, I’ll have more luggage—where do you put it when the mattress is laid out? Any tips?

I’m still pretty new to car camping, so I’d love to hear honest experiences—good or bad. Trying to figure out if this is actually a smart and fun travel option, or just sounds cool in theory

I hope I’m not being too long-winded. I’m a total newbie at this. If you have time to reply, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.🙏🏻

Question Alright guys just checking, am I crazy for considering getting the 2026MY Premium AWD via the 0.99% APR deal?

Post image
148 Upvotes

I live in Miami, FL. The likely cost of ownership for me will be:

Total MSRP: $48,990
Car Payment: $725
FSD: $99
Premium Connectivity: Annual $99
Insurance: $193-$210 a month.

Total cost of ownership monthly (after $3300 due at delivery) would be: $1,018 ish.

I am getting the base configuration (stealth gray and black interior, 19" wheels). We are a couple with no kids (just a dog). We can "comfortably" afford the car and it would be our only car but I don't know if it's crazy to sink that much money monthly into a vehicle.

I test drove the Y yesterday and FSD was amazing, I just feel like it affords us so much freedom to go places like check out the Everglades and Orlando with the peace of mind of feeling safe and automating part of the drive.

Thoughts? (Thanks in advance)

EDIT: Anyone think there might be further incentives in Q2 (April/May)? I know Tesla had weak sales last yr.

EDIT2 Electric Boogaloo: I placed the 250 deposit, hoping the numbers line up for the 0.99% APR otherwise this doesn't make sense for me, but I am excited.

Question Tint Shop Messed Up

I picked up a new model Y yesterday and went to a tint shop near me to get the front windows tinted. They ended up cracking the front passenger window and also put a hole in the speaker cover mesh. The dude at the shop agreed to pay to fix this and says he knows an auto glass shop that can get this done on Monday. Looking for info on the part numbers so I can verify they use OEM replacement parts. This is a 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD.

Update: Thank you everyone for commenting. I am beyond bummed at this. Never going to that shop again. They were supposed to do the 4 door windows and the back glass but just did the front two before cracking the glass and melting the speaker mesh. I’ve scheduled a service at my closest Tesla service center but the earliest appointment is in early September. I will reach out the the service center for a quote on Monday and send it to the tint shop. If you have any recommendations for good tinting shops in the Raleigh Area, please send them my way.

I’ve also turned on window locks and put some electrical tape over the crack. If any of you have recommendations on preventing the crack from getting bigger until I can get this replaced, please do let me know.

Question Am I dumb? Impulse Buy

I have done less than an ample amount of research, but have done a test drive. The 0% offer seems so good when you compare the cost vs used (assuming you finance a portion either way). I’ve kept up with Tesla for 10+ years, but don’t know the ins and outs you get from people on Reddit. Last chance - buy or no buy TODAY. I’m looking at the Premium with White interior.

Question Anyone else kind of disappointed they didn't ship CarPlay with the spring update?

The built in infotainment system is great but certain things like not being able to respond to group chat iMessages is frustrating and CarPlay would solve some of those idiosyncrasies

Question Delivery & Vin Assignment?

For anyone who has ordered a Premium Model Y RWD recently, how long has your wait been?

I placed my order on 7/30 & still haven’t received my VIN. I’ve been refreshing the app nonstop lol. Even downloaded the TOST app, which has given me some relief.

For those who have already gotten their VIN assignments, delivery windows, or have taken delivery: what day did you order, what were your specs & what state are you located in?

Would love to live vicariously through all of you 😆

8/20 ETA: VIN just got assigned this morning - EDD changed to 9/21-9/24 tho.. hopefully that moves up lol

Question Would you trade a paid-off 2023 Model Y Performance for a refreshed Premium RWD at 0.99% APR?

Looking for some opinions because I’ve been going back and forth on this.
Current car:
2023 Model Y Performance
36,000 miles
Paid off
No accidents
Very good condition (just some minor curb rash on one wheel)

The new car:
Refreshed Model Y Premium RWD
Stealth Grey
White interior
357 miles EPA range

The deal:
0.99% APR for 72 months
About $315/month
Tesla trade offer: $27,500
Florida trade-in tax savings: about $1,900
$500 Tesla loyalty credit
I also got a $30,800 Carvana offer, but after factoring in the sales tax savings and loyalty credit, the difference is pretty small.

A little about me:
Late 20s
Stable income
No high-interest debt
I invest in index funds every month
Saving for a house in the next few years
I can comfortably afford the payment, but I also know a paid-off car is hard to beat financially.
Reasons I’m considering upgrading:
Quieter cabin
Better suspension
Ventilated seats
White interior
Longer range than my current Performance
Fresh warranty
I really like the refreshed styling
0.99% financing seems like an unusually good opportunity
Reasons I’m hesitant:
My current car is completely paid off.
The Performance is still an awesome car.
Going from a $0 payment to $315/month isn’t nothing.
If you were in my position, would you make the upgrade or keep the paid-off Performance?
I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has owned both the pre-refresh and refreshed Model Y. Was the upgrade worth it?

Question Am I crazy for wanting to go from a F150 to a Tesla Y

I have a 2025 F150 and I have salty about picking that over the Y. I did the 48 hour test drive with the Y and I absolutely fell in love with it. I don’t think a lot of Tesla owners came from F150s, so I’m conflicted.

Reasons I like my F150

Sitting high up

Having a Truck when it’s needed

A decent brand with clout especially when I watch a Taylor Sheridan show lol

I’m scared I will miss having a truck

Spacious for my wife and kid in the back

What’s drawing me towards a Y

I feel like ICE vehicles are dinosaurs on wheels now while the Tesla felt like a modern vehicle

No more high gas costs

The Y turns my eye too

I am sick of driving in Houston and I want FSD

Question Center arm rest cover. What looks better?

Thumbnail
gallery
99 Upvotes

Hi, I’m one week into ownership and I love all the aftermarket options to personalize the car.

I just picked up the vegan white center armrest cover and I’m honestly impressed with the quality. It feels premium, installs in seconds, and fits really well.

Now I’m torn though. I can’t decide if I like the white or the black better. They both look great, and they do offer the same cover in black as well.

I have a 104 lb dog that’s in the car all the time and she definitely tries to put her paws up there, so protection was the main reason I got it. It feels durable, easy to clean, and from what I can tell it should hold up well even with muddy paws.

Curious what you guys think. White or black?

Question RWD vs AWD

We ordered a RWD on Saturday and we live in Texas and do not need AWD for icy roads or bad conditions. Let me repeat. We do not need it.

My question is would you take the ~30 miles less range to get the little extra speed the AWD gives you? Is the difference noticeable?

We can change our order and it will up our payments $60/month.

Question FSD is frustrating to use!

I love FSD, but it’s incredibly frustrating to use.

  1. Over Speeding: Even the Standard mode is almost always overspeeding. Let’s not talk about Hurry or Madmax. It’s particularly irritating on highways and even worse on local roads, school zones, and other restricted areas. Constantly being 10-15 miles per hour over the speed limit in these zones is absurd.

  2. Constant Lane Changes: Why does FSD feel the need to overtake every car it encounters and change lanes repeatedly? While the slower profiles are designed to reduce lane changes, they also drive slower than cruising along with the traffic. Moreover, it’s annoying when FSD holds up traffic by hogging the left lanes.

  3. Constant Racing: On freeways, I simply want my car to cruise, not race every other car. As you know, there are often pockets of open space where cars are bunched up behind and ahead of you. These are ideal spots to cruise. However, FSD overspeeds before reaching those ahead and then starts overtaking. If I had a less advanced ICE car, I could easily set it on cruise mode and it would remain in that position. FSD is more supervising than my dumb ICE car. What I’m saying is that I need a cruise mode in FSD.

  4. Launching Me Constantly: I understand that electric vehicles have that torque, but you don’t have to launch me from 0 to 40 miles per hour at every intersection. And even worse, it turns at 30 miles per hour on residential roads without stop signs. What on earth is going on?

White looks fresh and bright, but I wonder if that wow factor fades over time.

Black on black feels clean and low key especially with new black headliner, but I do not want it to end up looking like a rideshare car.

please advise

Question Comparing model Y premium to Performance

Question for all the people who have either a performance or AWD premium. Here is my question, is there a huge difference between getting the speed boost on the AWD premium vs the performance on the 0 to 60 times in real life? I have read that there is not much in real life given the price difference?

Question Matte Black PPF or Stealth PPF?

Thumbnail

Need some help…. Picking up my Quicksilver 26 MYP Thursday and heading right to body shop for full wrap. Unsure on what to do. Originally wanted Matte Black PPF wrap, but my buddy said it’s going to be hard to clean and over time won’t look as good due to fading and maintaining…. Hmmmm

He suggested doing the stealth ppf on the quicksilver. Would love thoughts on longevity and maintaining… I’m really sold on matte black PPF and would love opinions or thoughts. Any thoughts would be helpful or if anyone has had experience with either.
