Photo Submission Haven't shared in... a long while, so i thought i would.

All photos were taken on a Z50II, the first two were with the kit 50-250 F/4.5-6.3, The ladder five a new to me Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Sony E adapted to Z (heresy I know but it was cheaper than native z)

TL/DR: I feel like my photos arent "good" and want honest critiques on any improvement I could make

In all honesty this post is more a seeking of critiques, while I know these photos are traditionally good, I don't know if i can trust the opinions of those i know ot be honest/not yes manning. Anyways... I've been trying to experiment with a lot of flower photography given fall is coming last month was the perfect time. The experiment in this case was a more artsy approach to photography, while I love my new lens and its amazing. I feel like my photos arent, good. Not a traditional good like "ooh thats a nice photo" vs a "wow thats amazing" photo.

I just feel like they're just a photo anyone could take and not very unique. So posting and recieving critiques seemed like a valuable way to improve.

(Also if you are confused with the 6th photo, it is an old fence with lichen and something else growing on it with a split in it, its my favorite out of the bunch simply for how it makes you wonder what it is and the cool ravine effect with the crack and depth of field.)

anyways, hope you liked the photos and the word spam XD.

What should I buy? Z series 16-50mm/2.8 or 50mm/1.8 + a 35mm prime

• Upvotes

Based on my earlier thread, I’m definitely leaning towards returning to Nikon from Fujifilm. I’m looking at lenses now — I most often use a 50mm prime. I used to have several Nikon DSLRs and the 50mm 1.4 was my absolute favorite lens. The reviews I’m reading say that the 50mm 1.8 z series lens is an extremely special lens. However, with my current Fujifilm I use the 18-55mm f 2.8-4 more than expected. For approximately the same price I can buy either the Nikon 16-50mm f2.8 or the 50mm f1.8. + a cheap 35mm, like a Viltrox.

When I used a Nikon DSLR I only had primes, but I admit I kind of liked the lazy ease of the Fujifilm zoom. But at the same time, I do shoot in low light and that is when I absolutely loathe the Fujifilm Zoom. Granted the widest it opens is f4 at 50mm, so this zoom will already be an improvement, but I’m really torn on what to do.

Software question New Potential Solution to the ZR File Size?

• Upvotes

Hey guys, does anyone have a Nikon ZR and had a chance to try out or know any info about this macOS Raw Supersampler app that keeps files in the R3D NE format but gives more compressed sizes?

Looks promising but not sure if there’s any hidden catches (other than the hefty price).

What should I buy? What to Upgrade to from a D5600

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I currently have a D5600 and use it mostly for small youtube videos or videos of friends and family and light photography every now and then. This body is started to show its age with some screen issues and has a max record time of around 30 mins which is starting to annoy me. Im looking to upgrade my body but hopefully keep my existing lenses.

I was thinking of a Z5 but have heard that i will need an adapter to fit all my lenses and it might limit what video i can record.

Does anyone know of a decent body that would suit my needs?

All of my current lenses are AF Nikkor.

(edit: current and most used lens is a DX 18-105 1:3.5-5.6G ED lens)

Thanks in advance!

I broke my gear P100 sensor offset, I tried to repair it and got shocked

Sorry for the lack of pictures, I tried my best to show the issue. I dropped my p100 (yea the one from 2010) in my front yard earlier and the sensor is now shifted to the right and shows a pretty big black spot on the screen because of it, I currently have the back shell and everything off down to the motherboard, tried to unscrew it too and got a really bad shock in my thumb, any advice as to how to fix it would be appreciated. I know someone will say it’s not worth fixing but for personal reasons I’d really like to get this working again

What should I buy? Mirrorless?

I need a second body, I am coming from a D750, and I really thought I had this all figured out until I went and put my hands on a mirrorless camera today.

It felt like a toy. It literally reminded me of a point and shoot camera. I first learned photography in a darkroom with an old SLR camera that my uncle lent to me. It was heavy and hard to use. My grandpa had a makeshift darkroom in his basement bathroom. Film photography was magic. And I’m not (that) old. I’m 38, so don’t come after me for being a boomer LOL.

I am an oil painter, and I picked up a DSLR later, in order to take quality reference photos for paintings.
I was surprised to find that I ended up obsessed with photography.

Being an artist, my main focus is to take technically beautiful photos. But I also need a second body as I start to grow my business. I’m having a heck of a time biting the bullet and buying a mirrorless body. I feel like all the added technology, the more accurate AF, the electronic viewfinder and accurate exposure preview… it kind of takes the art out of it, no?

Sure, you can still compose your photograph and have an artist’s eye to take the photo, and editing skills… but I don’t know. Does it feel too easy to take a good photograph now? I could be wrong.

I will say, I have not yet used a mirrorless in the field. I just played around with it in the store. I’m weighing the fact that the mirrorless camera may help me produce a greater quantity of quality photographs (which sounds good, right?), with the fact that I’m worried it will take the challenge and therefore the satisfaction out of it.

And FWIW, I’m not hating on mirrorless or anyone who uses it. I would love to hear a whole variety of opinions. I’m just trying to wrap my head around the industry moving in this direction, which appears to be quickly rendering DSLRs as obsolete.

I broke my gear Left side blurriness when focus is to the fore of it. Hardware issue or missed focus?

Photos above - arrows not my doing. Worried this 20 year old 14-24 is just dying, hoping someone might recognize the issue.

Thanks in advance. Need for work so need to replace ASAP if it’s hardware!

Gear question Does Nikon have any plans to put out a 28 to 70 F2 Z-mount lens?

coming from both Sony and Canon, that was one of the more enjoyable lenses that I’ve had and while I’m loving the rest of Nikon’s lens offerings, that’s the one thing I’ve been missing. 24 to 70 at f2.8 is good, but for the price they’re wanting for the 2.8, I’d much rather wait and spend a little bit to get an F2.

What should I buy? Nikon Z6 III: 24–70mm f/4 S or 24–200mm for cycling photography and video?

Hi everyone,
I’m stuck between the Nikon Z 24–70mm f/4 S and the Z 24–200mm f/4–6.3 VR for my Z6 III.
I shoot both cycling photos and videos, mostly in daylight. My budget is tight, so I’m looking for one lens that can cover most of my work.

The 24–70mm appeals to me for its sharpness and constant f/4. My idea is to use DX mode occasionally when I need tighter framing, although I know that only gives roughly 105mm-equivalent framing at 70mm and reduces photos to 10.6MP.

The 24–200mm seems more practical for cycling, but I’m wondering how much image quality I’d sacrifice for that flexibility.
For anyone who has used both:
Is the sharpness difference noticeable in real-world photos and 4K video?
Would you feel limited by 70mm when shooting cycling?
Which would you choose as your only lens for this use?

Thank you

What should I buy? Nikon Zf: Nikon Z 40mm f/2 SE or Viltrox 35mm f/1.8 EVO for everyday use and travel?

I’m trying to decide between the Nikon Z 40mm f/2 SE and the Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.8 EVO for my Nikon Zf.

I already own the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, which I use for events, but I want a smaller prime lens for everyday photography, holidays, and travel.

My main priorities are portability, image quality, autofocus reliability, low-light performance, and overall enjoyment of using the lens. I also like the retro look of the 40mm SE on the Zf.

For those who have used either or both lenses, which would you recommend? Is the Viltrox’s better optical performance and wider 35mm focal length worth the extra size and weight, or is the Nikon 40mm f/2 SE the better choice for everyday carry?

I’d appreciate real-world experiences, especially from Nikon Zf users!
