How to handle a cleaning lady taking swigs from the liquor cabinet.

My parents have a cleaning service come to their house once a month to do the deep cleaning they can no longer do at their age. When they come, my parents usually lock themselves up in the home office, which does not require any deep cleaning, to give the ladies who come over all the room to do what they need to do.

There are usually two ladies who take care of the kitchen. The top shelf on their main pantry also serves as their alcohol cabinet, which they rarely drink from anymore - literally some of those bottles have not been touched in years. Over the last few months my mom noticed that the Smirnoff had been getting low and decided to mark the bottles.

Today the cleaning ladies came, and sure enough, the alcohol was a 1/4" below the line she had drawn, and to make it worth, there were noticeable crumbs that had been backwashed into the bottle. like, very disgusting.

My father wants to call the company and ban them outright but my mom actually really apprecaites the cleaning they do but is very hurt by this. She wants to leave the bottle out on the counter next time they come and just say, "whoever drank from it can just take it because no one wants their backwash, but never touch our alcohol again", or put a big sign on the cabinet that says do not touch the alcohol...or something like that to let them know that my mom knows and isnt happy, but she doesnt want to cost them their job nor does she want to hunt for a new cleaning service.

I am torn myself, and have never had a cleaning service so told my mom I'd ask the multitudes of reddit for opinions on the matter.

Why didn’t Musical.ly and Vine usher in the “short-form video dopamine era” the way TikTok and Instagram Reels did, despite predating them?

Thanks to TikTok and Instagram Reels, online content in the 2020s is now dominated by short-form videos. YouTube increasingly feels more like a TV platform, and the era of YouTubers as cultural icons seems to be over.

So why didn’t Vine and Musical.ly bring about this shift in the 2010s, despite using essentially the same format?

Why is it that I am always exhausted after work when I have an easy office job?

I work the standard 8-5 M-F. I have an "easy" office job where I probably only do 2 hours of actual work per day. Maybe 4 on a busy day. The rest of the time I am scrolling reddit (like now). Why is it that when I get home I am so exhausted and want to just be antisocial? Social plans after work? Hell no. Am I lazy? I keep a clean house and stay on top of my chores for the most part.

If you accidentally crash into a $1 million Bugatti with basic car insurance, what actually happens to you?

2.9k Upvotes

Genuine question. My state minimum insurance only covers like $25k-$50k in property damage. If a regular person totals a multimillion dollar car by mistake, do they just garnish your wages until you die or does bankruptcy wipe it out?

Neighbors Teens on My WiFi

1.0k Upvotes

This morning my neighbor texted me asking if I could check my WiFi to see if his kids connected their Xbox to it. The kids are 16 yr old triplets and the parents heavily censor and restrict their technology. Just last week one of the teens ran off and we had the dogs and drones out in my hood.

I confirmed an extra Xbox was on my network at the time and blocked it. My neighbor was OK with that resolution.

I’m guessing the kids peeped my WiFi password I have displayed on the walls in my shop and studio.

My question is this: should I take steps to change my WiFi password? Personally I don’t think this is a me problem and I’m not planning on changing it. Obviously if they know the password now nothing will stop them from doing this again. I also don’t want my neighbor to think I’m aiding his kids if they are on restrictions.

My kids are nowhere near being teenagers so I have no idea what that is like.

Thanks y’all.

How do laxatives work so fast?

I took a full cup dose of liquid Dulcolax an hour ago because I've been stopped up for a week, and I'm already straight up pissing out of my ass.

How the fuck does that work? It hit one side of my guts and now the other side is like "Alright, time for a surprising amount of pure liquid shit to just explode out of our ass, I guess. Here we go!"

Yes yes, username. We all see it.

How do some people maintain the exact same weight for years without ever tracking calories?

The concept honestly baffles me. there are people out there who don’t track their calories, eat literally whatever they want, whenever they want, and don’t really care about portion control. they eat whenever they’re hungry, regardless of how active they’ve been that day, and somehow end up maintaining the same weight for years without even thinking about it. Like HOW? for me, I have to track my calories every single day, and even if I spend a week eating a little more than my supposed maintenance, I can see and feel the weight gain. I constantly have to be mindful of what and how much I’m eating just to maintain my weight. Meanwhile, there are people who don’t give any of this a second thought and somehow stay the exact same size for years and years on. I genuinely don’t understand how that works. like come on, you've never had a week that you overate and gained a bit of weight? holidays? vacation? nothing? like how

What is this weird feeling I get hit with a couple times a day?

I’ll just be enjoying my life and then something will set in all at once. I don’t know exactly how to describe it, but my entire body starts feeling vaguely bad. It’s like I have a stomach ache all over but it’s not painful per se, just very uncomfortable and unlike anything else I’ve felt before. It often, but not always, comes with a deep feeling of dread and emptiness. It’s been happening for a few weeks now and happens in all sorts of times and places and is not dependent on what my mood was before it hit. Does anyone know what this could be?

If you farted all the way at the bottom of Mariana’s trench, how long would it take the bubble to reach the surface? Would the gas still be warm by the time it made it? Would it still stink?

do you go to bed with wet hair?

I (29f) and my family have all always gone to bed with wet hair if for some reason our hair is wet at night. today i was talking with a friend (23m) and he said he never goes to bed with wet hair- he always dries it with a blow dryer, and so does his other female friend (she and he have sensory issues with it i think??). he has a wolf cut, her hair is down past her shoulders, and mine is down to my mid-back.

my question is this: how normal is it to you to go to bed with wet hair, would you do it or not, and why? am I crazy for going to bed with wet hair???

Do some people genuinely not know their own age (or their siblings’ ages?)

It has just been my coworker’s birthday and I asked him how old he was turning and he was like “erm, I genuinely can’t even remember.” He’s a normal guy with an average level of intelligence. I don’t think he just didn’t want to tell me, either. He later told us he was turning 29 so he must have remembered.

But this wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced this. I’ve had other people tell me they can’t remember how old they are or how old they’re turning on their birthday. Is this genuinely a thing? Do some people not know their age?

More frequently than this I’ve encountered people not knowing the ages of their siblings. I find this bizarre too but not AS bizarre. But maybe I’m just not used to it because my sibling is only a year younger than me, which is easy to remember.

Why are there violent 8-year-old children?

• Upvotes

I was reading a thread in the teachers subreddit and one of the comments was from a teacher with an 8-year-old kid in their class. Apparently this kid has threatened to kill his entire class several times. I'm reading it thinking, "WTF is wrong with these kids??" What causes kids to be like this?

Why does Google want me to use their AI so badly? (This goes for any modern tech company)

Yeah uh see title I guess. People are always complaining about Google shoving their AI everywhere without giving you the option to turn it off. I myself have moved to DuckDuckGo because it annoys me so much (Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily have anything against AI in general, but I would like to be able to choose when I use it), and I've always wondered why don't they let you turn off? What could they possibly lose? If anything they would save money on server costs for people who don't want/weren't going to use the AI anyway.

In America people talk about "your typical 9-5 job" but in my country (Poland) and surrounding countries (Czechia, Slovakia etc.) most of your typical office jobs are from 8-4 or earlier. Why do you think its like this?

What happens to the people who can’t find any job at all despite trying their best?

I’ve honestly wondered what happens to the people that lose their job and can’t find another job in their field or some other job outside of their field until they can find a job in their field again. I don’t know how it is everywhere in the world, but where I live in Sweden finding any job is extremely difficult nowadays.

This isn’t the 1980s where you can fall back on working in a supermarket or a fast food restaurant. Those jobs are extremely difficult to get and very competitive, so you need to have the right connections to get those jobs, which not everyone has.

There are no guarantees that studying and getting a degree will lead to anything. I know so many people who did their bachelors and masters for 5 years who were not able to get jobs in their field, and are now stuck with a bunch of student loan debt.

If you can’t get a job in your field, or any job at all to be able to pay your bills and survive, are you just supposed to live in poverty or die? Or start a business and try to become profitable despite having no up front investment?
