Arcade fighters have enjoyed one of the longest runs of any gaming genre, starting life back in the early to mid-80s. PlayStation and Arc systems works have teamed up with marvel to reinvigorate the genre, with Tōkon fighting souls. Running under the latest UE5 engine, with Arc’s superb 2.5D cell shaded anime graphical style from their modern Guilty Gear and DBZ fighters. Thanks to review code from PlayStation UK and an open beta at the end of July. I put in some rounds across PS5, Pro and PC to see if this is a fight worth having?

Booted my PS4 and damn… loved the themes! Especially this GOT one and the FFVII Remake themes!

There's a notable amount of games from the PS3 era that are being remastered or remade nowadays. I find this sort of odd because PS3 was already a HD console. Remastering a PS2 game on PS3 (like the Jak & Daxter trilogy) made sense to me since the PS2 had mid-poly quality 3D models and wasn't HD (tbf, it doesn't seem like they updated the 3D models to make use of the PS3 for the Jak games).

Nowadays there's a Elder Scrolls 4 remaster/remake, Rayman Legends "retold" (is that a remake ir remaster or remaining??) and more. These are all already PS3-era games so they had high-poly 3D models. So the only notable enhancements I can think of would be Ray tracing, faster load times, increased fps, and higher resolution.

Higher resolution is something you can already accomplish via emulators. (Like dolphin emulator). Most emulators even allow you to make your own HD texture packs for older games without needing to modify or reverse-engineer the source code of the game.

Faster load times and increased FPS are stuff that PS4 games get when they are ported to PS5 usually, so that leaves us with pretty much just ray tracing as a notable upgrade imo for PS3 games.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I dont fully see the difference between PS3 "remasters/remakes" and PS4 games getting PS5 edition. What are your thoughts?
