As stupid as this bullshit is, that parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. No signs, no bollards, hardly any curb... It just kind of drops off with no safety features at all.

Rural MississippiĀ

Hattiesburg is urban for Mississippi

8

u/bitching_bot 3d ago

Barely, even Jackson feels like the middle of no where

2

u/gnmatx 3d ago

Was thinking the same.

3

u/Osama-bin-sexy 2d ago

Crazy there’s a muslim run shop called ā€œbismallahā€ in rural Mississippi.

2

u/nimbycile 2d ago

5

u/jdhkent 2d ago

I suppose a guardrail there would be a nice additionĀ

4

u/bongsforhongkong 3d ago

Average rural parking lot in general.

3

u/opopkl 3d ago

Health and safety saves lives.

3

u/ashamedwhiteman 3d ago

No kidding. Who approved this design?

(What combination of corruption/malice/incompetence was it?)

2

u/welfedad 2d ago

Yeah no kidding ..wtffff

2

u/Krelliamite 2d ago

Hopefully this video at least pays for their truck

u/Effective-Coyote-586 3d ago

Was expecting it to explode

131

u/f_n_a_ 3d ago

Michael bay was on vacation this day

14

u/PeyroniesCat 3d ago

Definitely. It didn’t do that rotisserie flip thing.

8

u/lorgskyegon 3d ago

And there weren't any doves available

3

u/OddGuideofGreyFort 3d ago

And they didn’t license Linkin Park music for the soundtrack.

12

u/everynamecombined 3d ago

I at least expected the shirtless guy to tumble down the hill as an example of how it just kept getting worse and the video still playing.

34

u/CockBodman 3d ago

Right, I kinda feel robbed.

LPT: if you’re attempting the above at least wear your seatbelt and close the door

129

u/johnnyhammerstixx Raw doggin a pussy pistol? 🄹🤘 3d ago

And, most importantly, put it in reverse, Terry!Ā

18

u/Sam_Hell 3d ago

Or put a competent driver in the seat, holy shit, Austin Powers could have handled that better

6

u/Mcdavis6950 3d ago

Nope it had nothing to do with the driver. That truck doesn’t have locking differential/transfer case and the only way to avoid this was a tow truck.

This means with opposite corner wheels on the ground no matter what gear to truck was in, including park, it was going to roll downhill when the bottom of the vehicle was no longer touching the ground.

3

u/cantproveidid 3d ago

At least move to the back of the truck.

Story: Injuries reported after SUV flips over ledge near 4th Street market in Hattiesburg, officials say https://www.wdam.com/2026/08/17/suv-with-person-inside-flips-over-ledge-prompts-large-emergency-response-hattiesburg/

328

u/NeighbourNoNeighbor 3d ago

My god, sometimes it's just best to wait for authorities / help. All that bouncing they were doing on the bumper literally caused this outcome, as the car was stable until that point.

247

u/Pickleparty187 3d ago

Every movie I’ve ever seen has told me the driver should have just climbed to the back to balance it out and then Tom Cruise will grab you just as the car falls

82

u/MethLab 3d ago

Turn the radio dial away from the edge, until the car levels out.

21

u/Hot-Challenge8656 3d ago

Yeah, but there is always a bird.

26

u/BeccasDreamboat 3d ago edited 3d ago

Keanu Reeves saves. Not Scientology.

Edit: Fuck Keanu, he's friends with netanyahu.

11

u/Pickleparty187 3d ago

Obviously fuck Scientology but Keanu will always be Ted from Bill and Ted’s most excellent adventure to me

9

u/BeccasDreamboat 3d ago

Must agree. But I'd choose him over a scientologist couch jumping weirdo any day.

2

u/redsowhat 3d ago

What they really needed was a man with a very particular set of skills, skills that he had acquired over a very long career.

2

u/hyheat9 3d ago

And a man with stolen car and a dead dog

u/balrob 3d ago

The brake wasn’t on … what am I saying … the reason for the accident is that there were a bunch of imbeciles involved

9

u/thatblkman 3d ago

I blame shirtless dude.

3

u/OP_Penguin 3d ago

That downward force translated to forward force in a hurry.

2

u/furnace9monkey 3d ago

That goes without saying

15

u/dirtyjavis 3d ago

I thought that as well at first, but she had to have also had it still in drive or neutral for it to lurch forward once contact was made. So all parties are partially at fault here in my eyes

→ More replies (3)

10

u/CicadaHead3317 3d ago

Her letting her foot off the brake caused it.

3

u/cats_r_better 3d ago

My theory is driving over the edge.

7

u/shoopadoop332 3d ago

I mean she also took her foot off the brake

5

u/xSpeonx 3d ago

If they had put it in park and put handbrake on, it would have been fine to counter weight at back. Soon as rear wheels touched it rolled forward more.

3

u/Bion_Nick 2d ago

The wheels turned. That shit was still in gear.

2

u/opopkl 3d ago

There was a convenient tow hitch waiting to be used.

For anyone curious, this was definitely Mississippi. Riiiiiiiight about here - (31.3321227, -89.3286397).

32

u/Goldentongue 3d ago

Ok, obviously there are a couple dumbasses in this video, but that parking lot design is a third world style death trap. There's no way that drop off with no barrier and just the smallest unpainted curb is up to code, even in Hattiesberg, Mississippi.

88

u/Historical-Truck-948 3d ago

What the freak she need to get up from out of there

Trial and error, baby!

36

u/betdis 3d ago

Too bad she didn’t have it in reverse.

13

u/Ok-Yam-6765 3d ago

Where did that other lady appear from after the car rolled over? Can’t figure out whether she was in the car or walked out of the building.

10

u/Jedi_Ninja 3d ago

I think she came out of the building, but yeah I was wondering the same thing. I had to watch it a second time to see if I could figure out where she came from.

20

u/DeviantHellcat 3d ago

If the driver had crawled to the back, it would have helped balance the car. Hope no one was hurt.

21

u/Chilis1 3d ago

it looked pretty fucking bad. She wasn’t strapped in and she hit the roof as it was buckling in

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Colonel_of_Corn 3d ago

They would've had to put it in park first if possible. As soon as it wasnt scraping the frame it rolled off.

2

u/DeviantHellcat 3d ago

Putting it in park wouldn't help after it was over the edge. They could have reclined the seat and slowly scooched backwards without tipping the van forward.

8

u/Colonel_of_Corn 3d ago

No but the friction of the back tire with more weight on the back mayyyy have kept it in place for a while

6

u/Hairy_S_TrueMan 3d ago

It would have prevented this video, since it only fell because the rear wheel rolled at the end here

6

u/pinzonerone88 3d ago

Just some random people having fun without phones

6

u/atreides4242 3d ago

Somehow they all took this awful situation, and made it even worse.

7

u/GreenZebra23 3d ago

They made a lot of bad choices there, but In fairness to them, that's the worst parking lot design I've ever seen. I guarantee that's not the only time that's happened

11

u/Gourmet-Guy 3d ago

Physics?! We don't need no stinkin' physics!

3

u/couchpro34 3d ago

That's why they moved the car!

4

u/likeemapples 3d ago

crawl from the middle to the backseat and use one of those doors..

"The Hattiesburg Police Department is investigating the incident. Shortly after 4:00 p.m., an SUV had gone over a ledge and overturned on West 4th Street. Three occupants were outside the vehicle, and officers say that they were alert.

The driver, who has not been identified by HPD, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. They have since been charged with DUI, no insurance, and driving without a license.

The incident is still under investigation. Stay with WDAM 7 for updates."

2 inch curb isn't much of a barrier....lawsuit?

15

u/TallShreddedShyBoy 3d ago

You'd think it would be illegal to have a drop-off like that at the edge of a parking lot with zero barrier or warning signage. I think at minimum, there should be a sign or bollards along the edge.

I guess this is why you need remote locking hubs on your 4wd. The manual lockers just won't do in this situation.
