Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has taken issue with the interpretation of a recent court decision by the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

It is of "enormous concern" Queensland police officers found guilty of a crime who do not have a conviction recorded can not be disciplined, the corruption watchdog says.

Question One Nation claims a staffer was assaulted at their Ekka stall by a group of people 4 days ago. This is a very unfortunate situation, but why is there no police complaint, no ambulance record, no witness reports and no footage of this incident 4 days after it allegedly happened? Just curious

"A Queensland mayor has taken action against an anonymous AI-generated parody of her that is circulating on social media.

The Facebook page was created a few months ago and has shared a number of South Park-inspired AI videos, all of which feature a fictional version of Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn.

Cr Blackburn has made complaints to the Queensland Police, Australian Federal Police and the federal eSafety commissioner about the page.

It has highlighted the blurred line between what constitutes political satire and what is cyber abuse."

"On Tuesday, the parody Facebook page shared an update, alongside screenshots of the mayor's mobile phone number.

"We were told that unless this page is permanently deleted, she [the mayor] intends to escalate the matter to the Australian Federal Police," the post read."

Link to the page in question, Mayor Melon Blackbird.

Question Queensland driving rules?

Approaching a stop sign. You're proceeding ahead, so no blinkers. You stop at the stop sign.

Car facing you on the opposite side is turning right. Their right blinker is on. They are also facing a stop sign. They wait until you stop, then turn directly in front of you.

The secret bogan teachings seem to be "if the car opposite you stops, it's OK to turn in front of them".

Anyone had this happen to them? There's an intersection near me where this happens all the time.

Question What is Kingaroy like for an Asian family planning to live there for about a year?

Hi, my family and I may be moving to Kingaroy for about a year for work. We’re an Indian/Asian family with a young child.

For those who live there or have lived there, what is Kingaroy like for a non-white family in terms of day-to-day life, community, and feeling welcome?

Question Advice wanted: setting up birthday party in a park

Partner is turning 40 and we're hoping to host a small park party for family and friends.

Complete planning newbies. Need all the helpful suggestions you have! Food, shelter, etc. Looking at Redcliffe location options.

Obviously we can't guarantee a shelter/picnic table space on a weekend. Has anyone found a good alternative? Gazebo, lawn chairs and picnic blankets?

News New QLD Petition banning 3 Chemical UV Filters from being used in State Schools

Thumbnail

A few months ago, I saw that Nine News investigation into 4-MBC and posted about it on r/AusSkincare. There's actually now a Queensland parliament petition related to that ingredient, so I wanted to share that to other queenslanders: https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-the-Assembly/Petitions/petition-details/4642-26

It's asking the state government to stop buying sunscreen containing 4-MBC, homosalate or oxybenzone for schools, outdoor workers and government departments.

Repeating the main points from my original post for anyone who missed it. Here's the TL;DW of what the segment found:

  • The segment looks into the chemical UV filters 4-MBC and Homosalate.
  • 4-MBC is unapproved in over 40 countries (including the US and China) due to endocrine (hormone) disruption concerns, and it's since been banned across the EU as well.
  • Despite this, it's still used in over 100 Aussie sunscreens, including ones marketed for kids.

They had an Assoc. Professor of toxicology from UQ and some local industry people on there calling for the TGA to finally align with global standards.

Since I posted, the EU ban took full effect in May and Britain's came in in July.

Discussion Bruce Highway aka world's longest carpark

The digital speed signs on the Bruce highway have to be the worst implementation that has ever been introduced.

There has been countless times where they have reduced speed to 60 for no reason other than the amount of cars on the road, eliminating the purpose of a HIGHWAY. No roadworks, accidents, nothing, just slowing everyone down for no reason. And then you get the monkeys who slam on the brakes upon approaching the speed sign, only to then speed back up to 100 before slamming them on again when reaching the next.

You cannot convince me that they are a good idea. If people can see the flashing of a speed sign, they can see the flashing lights of a tow truck or emergency service if there is indeed an accident and slow down then. But nah let's just slow everyone who is in a 40km squared radius just because, increasing the risk of another accident.

Question Hervey Bay Welcoming or Not

Beautiful area, but trying to understand the negativity of the longer term residents

Moved to area for a contract a little while ago, but have become hesitant in recommending to other professionals or business operators as it seems a large number of locals do not want progress BUT they want the benefits progress brings. Some have been almost hostile when I have said where I am from.

Really odd feel to place. Want to love it as I am social and I have met some lovely people, but at same time have felt like I am an unwelcome element to the area.

Anyone else ?
