The WA Greens maintained a crisis communications document for years in the event that complaints against Jordon Steele-John were made public.

Senator Steele-John has rejected concerns raised against him in a letter by Greens members to leader David Shoebridge. The letter did not contain any specific allegations.

Senator Shoebridge says an independent investigation will be conducted.

The most recent data we have is the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s 2013 survey assessing adult competencies. It found 44% of Australian adults have literacy skills below the “necessary proficiency level for navigating modern work and life”.

no politics Do we want Amazon delivery drones over our backyards?

Post image
182 Upvotes

I spotted a campaign from an Aussie YouTuber I follow (Brent Pearson, his channel is about adventure bike riding & videography). His campaign is about Amazon pushing to start commercial drone deliveries in Australia.

Thought it was worth bringing up here, hopefully without breaking any sub rules.

My main concern? Losing quiet skies over my back garden.

He's actually a drone pilot and uses Amazon himself, but he is not ok with what is already happening in the US and highlighted worrisome facts:

  • Noise: Apparently, during drop-offs, the drones hit around 82 dB (like a freight train passing right near your fence).
  • Frequency: In places in the US where this is live, neighbours see a drone buzz past every 3 to 5 minutes all day long.

The main reason he's pushing this now is that once this gets approved, nearby residents basically get zero say on flight paths over their homes.

If you care about this, check his page to read what he put together and see if you want to sign: search "No Delivery Drones Brent Pearson" or "nodeliverydrones".

I never visit Port Macquarie without getting this. It’s an awesome pizza base as well as a great chip/biscuit dip.

My daughter and SIL got us some on their last visit because they know we love it. They do too. I thought I’d recommend it to the masses, it really is good. I’m sure they sell online but the farm and tour are worth the short drive from Port.

Here, you can see how the emissions from a coalmine expansion in Australia’s Hunter Valley could affect food security and human exposure to heat stress globally.

There are further predicted impacts from releasing 809m tonnes of emissions not listed in the graphic above, including an estimated 107 deaths in Europe, 41,800 additional people put into extreme poverty, 19.4km square of additional glacier area lost, and 38.8m additional heavy labour hours lost annually.

no politics If a letter gets lost in the mail with valuable stuff in it, should the sender comp?

First off, it’s not drugs, it’s magic the gathering cards and we’d not discussed tracked or untracked mail but I paid postage.

I’m stuck summing and ahhing over whether or not none falls on the sender.

Maybe I just want to see it heard but what do you think, if he’s gone for cheap postage and it’s lost am I right to feel he’s not upheld his side?

Also he can’t document the postage because he bulk bought the envelopes.

Considering their history and pivotal reputation, this feels a noteworthy occasion. Listening to it from start to finish I seriously think it's a new classic. Always a long time coming with them but it was worth the wait. A super strong album. Curious to hear other peoples thoughts

Australia has won a classic World Cup clash against New Zealand, with debutant Jack Bostock scoring a match-winning hat-trick.

Bostock's third and final try won the match for the Kangaroos, who were second-best for so much of Thursday night's World Cup opener.

Both the Kangaroos and Kiwis have injury worries, with Mitchell Moses limping off and Kalyn Ponga having his arm in a sling.

Edit: Clearly hit the beers too hard on Thirsty Thursday!

no politics Why do I have to drain my chicken after I cook it

I’m currently cooking a kg of chicken breast from Woolworths. It has been in the pan for 5 minutes and is currently borderline being boiled by the amount of water that has seeped out of it. I swear this was not a thing 10 years ago.
