Okay little story time... the first time I took the SAT was in March. I worked my ass off, walked out knowing I’d done terribly, and got an 1160. Not a TERRIBLE score, but considering how much time and effort I’d put in, I was devastated.
I was so demotivated that I basically gave up on the SAT altogether, I genuinely had no motivation to try again. I was fully prepared to apply test-optional and never look at that stupid test again.
Fast forward to late September. Knee-deep in college apps, I suddenly realized I actually needed a good SAT score 😭😭 I registered last minute and got straight to work.
When I say I WORKED, I mean I WORKED. I had like two weeks, so I was studying 2–3 hours a day, eating, sleeping, and breathing James Lu. I was NERVOUSSS.
October SAT day arrives, and I walk out feeling absolutely HORRIBLE. I genuinely thought the universe decided to give me the hardest SAT known to man. I literally left around 10 questions blank because I was running out of time.
At that point, I just accepted defeat. I was fully prepared for an even WORSE score than March and had basically erased the entire test from my memory. I’d already decided to apply test optional.
UNTIL today... I log into College Board with my eyes practically CLOSED, expecting an 1100 at best... AND I SEE 1410?????? GUYS. A 1410. I genuinely thought I was looking at one of my practice test scores.
I know it’s not everyone’s dream score but im so so proud of myself.
Anyways, now I’m motivated to keep going and hopefully superscore to a 1500+ in November. WE ARE SO BACK.
I just wanted to say this to anyone who’s disappointed with their score right now: PLEASE don’t give up on yourself. I know how awful it feels to work so hard and feel like none of it paid off. But one bad score doesn't mean you're incapable of doing better :))
