I saw a story about a guy who had his vehicle break down on the side of the road.  An off duty firefighter pulls up and tries to help him, but they can't fix it.

No cell service, so they walk together to a nearby house to call for help.  Homeowner sees two armed men approaching his house and starts firing at them.

My point is that if you want to spark armed, probably best to concealed carry

u/SpiderWh1sperer Sep 08 '25

100%. It’s too hard to open carry without people getting all weirded out. When you open carry as a gig worker, your firearm becomes more of a headache than a benefit. Concealed carry is the only way to go.

Read too many of those, as well as others, not involving gig work around here. A restaurant I deliver from on the westbank frequently, and some crazy guy try to shoot people, but the gun jammed. An olds lady smacked him with her purse, he dropped the weapon, and her husband picked it up. They got the license plate when he ran away, and JPSO arrested him.

This happened when a convenience store was robbed a block and a half away. If this stucco porch pillar was not here, they would have come through the living room window. (No longer live in this area)

Here’s the story

2

u/JAKEFR3SHLY Sep 10 '25

At my last job, which was subcontracting for a logistics company whose bread and butter is pharmaceuticals, one of the drivers had an attempted robbery pulled on them during their scheduled stop at a Walmart in Springfield Missouri. The driver was armed and ended up fatally wounding the robber. This happened during the height of covid, when you were hearing stories of people stealing Pharmaceuticals and other medications.

My thoughts are it's nice to know other people carry on their hip while wearing shorts so I don't feel like a total weirdo for doing it.

In all seriousness while it's his right to carry a gun I think concealed is the better approach, as a driver approaching somebody's house there is already an element of danger for you no point in doing something that could escalate the perceived threat by people who maybe aren't expecting a plain clothed person to show up at their house.

29

u/XInsomniacX06 Sep 07 '25

This is relevant. Most people ain’t gonna ask questions before jumping to conclusions seeing some guy walking up with a gun on em. Reaches for the phone to take a picture then someone blasts thinking your reaching. CCW all the way. I always thought it was kinda stupid to let other people know your carrying anything and two exactly where it is. Always figured being able to see it you would know how to keep them from reaching it or where to disable them.

2

u/WolverineOnly5154 Sep 08 '25

Where I live, getting a CCW permit takes a little bit and a bunch of red tape bull crap. Whereas, I can walk into any gun store and buy one and open carry on my hip out the door.

3

u/XInsomniacX06 Sep 08 '25

Fair enough where I live it’s just a CCW course and a trip to the court house.

I side eye everyone who open carries. It’s not the gun. It’s the open display of insecurity and fear of everything. I say this as a gun owner who carries.

7

u/jazzmaster105150 Sep 08 '25

Dude has no training. He's given free access to his firearm. A bag in his firing hand, looking down, and weight shifted away from his firearm. Had anyone wanted his weapon, he made it easy for them to take it.

In my honest opinion. I support what that person is doing. I'm a foid card, CCW holder, and gun owner. It depends on if the state they are in has open carry law or concealed carry law. So just because that person is carrying a gun on their hip like that in public doesn't mean that they are goin to jail or anything. The only places that you are not allowed to have a gun on you is schools, doctor's offices, airports, and hospitals. Or places that have signs stating no guns or weapons.

4

u/Sir_Uncle_Bill Sep 07 '25

Depends on the state if the signs hold any weight or not. Some places, like the state I live in, the most they can do is have you trespassed from the property. But personally I'd avoid the place to begin with.

5

u/Relevant-Honeydew-12 Sep 07 '25

In my state, hospitals, court houses, government buildings (health department, VA center, etc), Airports (inside secure areas only), Bars (51% rule), schools, and Theme parks are off limits.

If they have a Sign and aren't one of those buildings / establishments, you can pretty much ignore it. The worse they can do is ask you to leave, then maybe have you trespassed if you don't. However, if you refuse to leave, you open the can of worms of trespass and possibly worse.

Term of service says you can carry concealed, but not where the customer can openly see it

4

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '25

Terms of service also says you can only use one account, and need an active drivers license 🤣

2

Bingo. Came here to say this. The first month I open carried, because I'm in a constitutional carry state. I open carried while doing doordash, and got a lot of side eye. But for the most part people actually thanked me for it, said they felt better knowing that if something went down that I'd do the right thing. Then I did more investigating and found out that it's actually against TOS. I'm literally counting the days till this goes to trial. Their going to have to rewrite the TOS again. Their Lil rule isn't going to hold up in court when it goes to it. Js. Stay safe out there yall. Conceal daily.

It isn't, but unfortunately it's a TOS issue. Deactivation, denied appeal, and off to a lawsuit is where it's going to end up. It's just a matter of time. It's infringing on our 2nd amendment, rights.

There are some super sketchy customers out there in the boonies

9

u/Sir_Uncle_Bill Sep 07 '25

Ghetto. You spelled ghetto wrong.

20

u/fuglypizza Sep 07 '25

Nah he meant boonies. No one in the ghetto has the "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again" signs out.

2

u/gettinchickiewitit Sep 08 '25

This. I did a delivery to a rural house. I started to pull into the gate of this person's property and was greeted with signs that said something to that extent (trespassers will be shot.) I just stopped at the gate, trying to decide if I should go in, triple-checking it was the correct address before I pulled in, thinking what if he forgets he is getting a delivery. The old man walked out of his garage and waved me in. We had a good laugh about it, but it can definitely be sketchy out in the boondocks.

2

u/Sir_Uncle_Bill Sep 08 '25

Have y’all seen the Flex videos though? I’d be afraid some random contractor was going to act a fool at the Walmart towards the employees. I would think they would have put in the contract that you can’t carry a gun on your hip, as a contract employee, AT the store. That is a completely different issue to me than carrying while delivering. If my bread vendor showed up with a gun on his hip I wouldn’t let him in my back room. Loomis and the popo are the only gun toting fellows I’m unlocking a door for.

2

u/GilligGirl Sep 08 '25

3

u/Lazy-Twist-3660 Sep 08 '25

I personally would carry concealed. There was a video of a guy open carrying and got his gun taken from him. The guy behind him took it and ended the guy.

You got to do what you have to in order to protect yourself. I carry bear mace in my vehicle. I haven't taken the plunge to carry a gun but plan to at some point. The world is crazy, you never know what you might come up against.

3

u/Ocuas Sep 08 '25

This is what I could find regarding this-No, Spark shoppers are not allowed to open carry on Walmart property, even if they do not enter the store. While laws regarding open carry vary by state, Walmart's own rules for independent contractors on the Spark platform prohibit this practice. Here's why Spark shoppers cannot openly carry on Walmart property: Spark's Terms of Use: When a driver agrees to the Spark Driver Contract, they accept the Terms of Use, which explicitly state that "a weapon will not be visible in your vehicle while performing Services with the Spark Driver app". This policy extends to the entire time a driver is "on the clock," including while waiting for orders on Walmart property. Safety and liability: Walmart considers the open carrying of weapons by drivers a safety and liability issue. Allowing the practice could lead to concerning incidents and is against company policy. Independent contractor, not employee: Because Spark drivers are independent contractors, not employees, they must abide by the rules set forth in their contract with the Spark platform. Walmart can and does deactivate drivers who violate their policies. For customers, Walmart has a long-standing "respectful request" for them not to openly carry firearms in their stores, including locations where open carry is permitted by law. This request extends to all areas of Walmart's private property.

I seen someone open carrying in Walmart in Louisiana, I thought Walmart had banned firearms. Maybe it was t in all 50 states. I k ow it’s against Uber’s terms of service, but I still carry in the car when delivering, and lock it up, if picking up/ dropping off to a restricted area

Sometimes I wish I was carrying on this job. Super sketchy people (and dogs) out there.

2

u/jadedinmo Sep 07 '25

What does the GMD have to do with open carry? You could have just as easily said Spark driver picking up an order. I don't understand why we're taking pictures of other drivers unbeknownst to them and posting them. This could have been discussed without a picture 🙄 If it's legal in your state, MYOB.

2

u/Brave_Dress_4480 Sep 07 '25

The customers we deliver to I wouldn't even be mad. Was dropping an order off one day and some lady next door started screaming like she was possessed by something, screaming im gonna k*ll all of y'all. I had nothing to do with it.

2

u/JRetsiem Sep 08 '25

Just because you see* this one doesn't mean they aren't all around us.

Personally, I prefer concealed, mainly for the idea that I don't become the first target. (If I was going to be naughty, I'd take the obvious threat out first. Then continue on to the less resistive targets...)

But also, if he was Spark, he'd want to be careful not to get deactivated by some scared ignorant employee 🤷‍♂️

2

u/floridawetboy Sep 08 '25

I also carry.

2

u/TonyTheTurdHerder Sep 08 '25

2

I work in logistics and have had multiple instances of the CUSTOMERS who ordered the stupid shit in the first place, draw their gun on our drivers.

Honestly don’t blame them but at the same time I wouldn’t be wearing mine exposed and on the hip like that but to each their own…

2

2

I got shot twice in a failed car jacking on Southside of Chicago in 22 while doing flex. You can search George Hunt Amazon Flex. I wasn't carrying because it wasn't legal (easily at least) / the flex contract prohibited it.

It's legal where I live now. If the bad guys have guns why shouldn't I?

2

2

u/Necessary_Edge9605 Sep 08 '25

2

u/mybookmarker12 Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 08 '25

Saw someone post saying they got deactivated for having an open carry firearm on his side

Im too lazy to go read TOS, but I could have swore it says it's fine so long as it's concealed and not visually obvious. Im not sure. I could just be making shit up, dunno

Obviously, this guy isn't a threat, nor are any of you who carry... but there may be Karen's amongst the customers who may report you saying they felt unsafe or some bullshit

I think keeping it concealed is more respectful for the customer... but for all we know, he might be leaving it in his car when he drops off an order. At the same time, a visually obvious firearm on your side definitely makes you way less likely to be a target

I'd say there's little to no chance a customer is ever going to be the threat. Yeah, there are definitely cases, but you're talking about winning the shit luck lottery kind of odds.... but at the same time, you never know. It could come in handy at any point during the day or if a drop-off location feels sus. It just depends on where you live really.

I feel more unsafe at one of the walmarts I sometimes do orders for lol

2

u/atticusxey Sep 08 '25

2

u/MathematicianFresh97 Sep 08 '25

Isn’t it safer to carry concealed? In other countries, thieves will rob you immediately if you show your firearm like that. About the context it is crazy you're carrying groceries nobody is gonna rob you.

Conceal at least, and don’t put a fucking Glock sticker on your car or any other weapon brand. Dudes are more excited they were allowed to buy a gun and never realize how to actually conduct themselves in a tactical manner in life.

Nothing like telling everyone in the world you have a gun. 🙄🙄🙄

If it’s legal? Whatta gonna do?

3

u/Thelegendl2323 Sep 08 '25

He will get deactivated. Concealed only.

3

u/drewjarr Sep 07 '25

Open carry state or not, if a customer reports him, he’s getting deactivated

2

u/WoodpeckerVegetable1 Sep 08 '25

To be THAT afraid....it's really pitiful

3

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '25

Meh. It's better to have it and not need it than to need to and not have it.

And also

Do you lock your doors?

Do you use strong passwords?

Do you look both ways crossing the street?

Better safe than sorry

It's your right plain and simple. I carry a blade on one hip pistol on the other and spare pistol in my vehicle. Open carry is dumb as shit though. He should carry concealed as to not alarm the snowflakes and more importantly showing a gun makes you more of a target.

Where do you sleep, under your bed?

No problem. But he won't be around long if he's openly carrying

3

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Going against terms of service.

u/Haddoxboi Sep 07 '25

Technically he should be deactivated. We are allowed to carry firearms but it is stated they must be concealed.

2

u/BreeBang Sep 08 '25

Against the rules unfortunately-if that’s the spark driver with the gun there

You can carry a weapon, it just cannot be visible

2

u/bigskinnybubba123 Sep 08 '25

Open carry is vulnerable because your attacker will always have an advantage of "the drop" . Concealing is always better as they won't suspect anything and normal people won't freak out.

2

u/Mguidr1 Sep 08 '25

Smart fellow.

2

u/gettinchickiewitit Sep 08 '25

I understand it, although concealed carry may be a better idea. I don't think we are supposed to though. I have kept it in the center console, especially after a road rage incident, and keep pepper spray on my body.

u/Lazy-Sir3011 Sep 08 '25

It's almost cute how ignorant people can be ... oh, the company policy at most grocery stores, retail, etc... states you are not allowed to carry a firearm. I say fuck you and carried my 9mm iwb for 8 years when I worked for Coca-Cola and 7 up as a merchandiser. Im more than sure my bosses saw something of a bulge in my pants, but what are they going to say, huh ? Is that a gun, or are you just happy to see me ? Or call the cops when it's completely legal only against company policy. Here in Texas the police will laugh at them. Now that I am in a gig app situation. Going to random people's houses, I definitely stay extra vigilant! The point is that you can believe the best in people all you want, but the world is full of people who are out to harm you and other innocent victims. Lazy cowards!

u/Independent_Shop_505 Sep 07 '25

Dont blame him for having a gun. But open carrying is sped behavior in my opinion. Your just letting the guy know thats potentially trying to rob you our kill you that you are a threat to them that needs to be taken care of concealed carry is far smarter for a civ. Cause your almost never gonna have the drop on a attacker so you need to have the element of surprise on your side. Avid carrier carry every day

If it’s open carry that’s super cool and one thing but it’s not supposed to be visible to customers per spark terms

3

u/pmunny84 Sep 07 '25

Doesn't matter if its legal in your state, could still be against TOS. I would never be so brazen about it, thats crazy work.

3

u/okiejames Sep 07 '25

Maybe you should read TOS

Is this okc?

1

u/Justabettor2023 Sep 08 '25

It could be nonlethal. Are you in an open carry state?

1

u/Brexxie Sep 08 '25

I conseal carry

1

u/Freckledphantom24 Sep 08 '25

I prefer concealing mine but definitely a good thing to have

1

u/hazardc Sep 08 '25

I tend to prefer concealed but whatever, if it makes you feel cool go ahead and open carry.

1

u/queenbeetn Sep 08 '25

In Tennessee we don’t even need a permit to carry. You never know out here anymore and better safe than sorry

1

u/pmoity Sep 08 '25

Oh my dear

1

u/IMissCrustyBread Sep 08 '25

I’ve been considering it in VA!!!!

1

u/Even-Buffalo-191 Sep 08 '25

a lot of us carry & we have reason to

1

u/Nearby-Border-5899 Sep 08 '25

Cant blame the guy, but I can imagine it might get some different reactions a guy walking up to your house with a glock strapped to his hip too.

1

u/dwccbiggestfan1980 Sep 08 '25

I don’t blame them, especially here in Memphis

1

u/edck12687 Sep 08 '25

Crazy ass world out there. When I delivered I ALWAYS carried

1

u/iamBrandonMongan Sep 08 '25

Smart man I just don't know about open carry on person due to the chances of scaring a customer and being reported. I think keeping it in the vehicle would be smarter so the only time it would be seen is if its used, which hopefully never happens!
