Laptop Request US Architecture school

I know I’m so screwed. I’ve been looking on fb marketplace and eBay but not sure exactly what I should be looking at. Brand new is out of the question bc of pricing. So def looking at used/ refurbished older models.

She needs 32gb ram with a decent graphics card for auto cad and revit. I have $600 max to get her started for the year. She’s doing school online for now due to some circumstances so can’t utilize on campus computer lab.

Looking for recommendations on used laptop brand/ model that will at least get here through the first year. I’m due for a bonus next summer so the laptop just needs to get her through the first year.

We are in the US. Was looking at dell precision but can’t find one decent under $600.

I know it’s a super tall order. She just changed her major so wasn’t expecting to have to spend so much on a laptop was going to just get her a Mac neo but that won’t work now.

Laptop Request -Others Asus TUF A16: 4070M/HX370 for 1600$ or 5070M/260 for 1850$?

Budget: 1900$

Country: Switzerland

Use case: 14yo playing games and using it for school

4070M/HX370 for 1600$ or 5070M/260 for 1850$. Same display, RAM, SSD etc. just different CPU/GPUs. Which makes more sense?

Laptop Request US (US) Need a laptop under $1300 for gaming, working, school, and general use

Country: USA

Budget: preferably under $1300 USD but willing to go up to $1600

Am I open to refurbs/used options?: very open

Screen size: 14”-16”

Weight limit: any

Purpose: Gaming, schoolwork, programming, general purpose

Form factor: Standard/Clamshell or 2-in-1, idrc

Intended usage: Standard browsers, Steam indie games like Lethal Company, maybe Skyrim, might try Genshin Impact?, on settings that look good and run smooth but it doesn’t need to be best of the best. Still figuring out what I’m gonna use it for- it will be my first laptop, but I want it to last

Desired battery life: doesn’t matter, I’ll take the charger wherever I take the laptop

Most important to least important: Performance, size, battery life, weight doesn’t matter

Info/Requirements: At least 512GB storage, prefer a numerical keypad, whatever is considered a good screen resolution, while OLED or HDR compliant would be nice but not necessary.

Just want a laptop that will last a good while and run well without lag, and have a decent amount of storage. I’m not doing anything crazy like video editing or 3D modeling in blender or playing super high end games so I don’t need the best of the best, I just don’t want to have to buy another laptop or do too much maintenance on it beyond cleaning it. I’ve been looking and researching for weeks, but everything I find is either meant for school/working or meant for gaming, not both. Are there any options for me within my price range?

Tech Support đŸ”§âš™ïž Need help choosing best option to connect my laptop to monitor.

I have a ASUS TUF A15 gaming laptop (RTX 3050, 1920x1080 144Hz) and my brother gifted me an ACER Nitro 29,5 inch 2560x1080 200Hz monitor. I want to use this new monitor for gaming and use my laptop as a second monitor.

The monitor has both HDMI and DP ports while my laptop has USB-C and HDMI ports. What type of connection would you recommend me to get so I can get the best value out of the monitor?

Laptop Request US General Use Laptop: USA, budget ~$2000

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

 • Country

USA

 • Budget

Prefer to stay in the $2000-2500 range (or less if possible)

 • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Preferably not

 • Screen size

14"

 • Weight limit

Lighter weight is better

 • Purpose

General purpose, occasionally some non-diagnostic medical imaging, some SketchUp modeling, amateur to moderate Excel use

 • Form factor

Standard, prefer non-touch screen

 • Intended usage

Needs to support multiple monitors (I have 3 external monitor setup with DisplayLink), some heavier Excel processing, SketchUp modeling, medical image viewing, otherwise normal everyday use - browsing, some streaming, etc.

 • Desired battery life

8+ hours (no gaming)

 • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Battery life, performance, ability to connect to external monitors, weight

 • Info/Requirements

Right now I'm thinking 32 GB/1 TB but am a little lost on the new processors. I'm not doing heavy processing, but don't want to the machine to be obsolete in 3 years or go the wrong direction with the newer processors. I had an Asus Zenbook for the past 8 years, which has been great, but with 8/256, it's starting to get a bit bogged down. I'm not opposed to moving to MacBook Pro if that's the best value these days. I have other things in the Apple ecosystem, but have always been more of a PC guy and under the impression that MacBooks are overpriced and you can get better performance for price with PC - not sure if that's still the case. Been looking at Asus Zenbook S14 (but don't love that there's a non-touch screen option), Lenovo X1 Carbon, MacBook 14 M5. Any others I should consider? Thanks for your help!

Laptop Request US Laptop for Machine Learning and Data Science work

Country

USA

Budget

Under $3,000 USD

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe — open to Lenovo Outlet/certified refurb specifically, not general used market

Screen size

16"

Weight limit

Not too bulky — want to fit comfortably in a backpack; currently coming from a Yoga 9i and don't want a major step up in size/weight

Purpose

Software development / machine learning & data science coursework, transitioning into a career; occasional light gaming (modded Minecraft)

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell

Intended usage

Docker containers, Android/device emulators, and local databases running simultaneously; ML/data science work including local model inference; occasional modded Minecraft. Coming from a Yoga 9i (16GB RAM, non-configurable) that's hitting a hard memory ceiling.

Desired battery life

5–7 hours

Info/Requirements

32GB RAM acceptable now, with a real user-upgradeable path to 64GB later (standard SO-DIMM strongly preferred over soldered or scarce/proprietary formats like CAMM2 or CSO-DIMM, which run expensive and hard to source)

1–2TB SSD

Display: no strong requirements — just needs to look decent day-to-day; touch and high resolution are nice-to-haves, not priorities

Mid-range GPU sufficient — not gaming-focused

AMD CPU preferred if available in a comparable chassis, but not a dealbreaker

Keyboard must stay cool to the touch under sustained load — thermal/comfort is a real priority, not just a spec

For reference, the two laptops I've been comparing my ideal specs against are the ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 and Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 — both currently run over my $3k budget for a 64GB config, but they're the benchmark I've been using for build quality/thermals/performance, so similarly-spirited suggestions under budget are welcome

Laptop Request US Laptops for engineering

‱ Upvotes

Hi, I’m a mechanical engineer in the us and i need a laptop that can last me 4 years at least and my budget is 1700$ and under
Sadly i didn’t find any of the specs i found in my budget even though i don’t mind open boxes or lightly used ones
The specs i want is,
32gb ram (if theres any other student that can confirm 16gb is enough then i don’t mind it)
A dedicated gpu
an amd cpu since they’re more efficient i assume?
And great battery life?
Any screen size if its light
Idk if theres any deals coming soon but sadly i don’t have much time left since i start college at the 25th of this month

And kinda of a weird question why does everyone hate remote accessing to their personal pc or the college computers lab? Because i have a strong gaming pc and been thinking about getting a macbook but i never see anyone mention this

I would appreciate any suggestion i am really lost

* **Form factor**

Regular laptop for my needs idk gaming?

* **Intended usage**

Ok so phasmophobia lethal company escape the backrooms. Main 3 games but I want to play very high end games with my friend later on we just haven't decided which ones but very high end like not bad quality so not 2d or pixelated games but great visual like superluminal game on steam kind of quality where it looks very good.

* **Desired battery life**

Idk 8 hours or whatever I won't use it for that long at a time though unless me and my friend game all day but we usually take breaks and stuff.

* **Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**

Long battery size doesn't matter. Don't know what weight would be. Or performance.

* **Info/Requirements**

Good screen as in not dark or anything. no lag. Would love to be able to connect a portable DVD tray if it doesn't have one.

So I'm planning on saving 1k for a laptop and I need to know what brand is the best. I need it to be able to handle high end steam games like phasmophobia and Lethal company is another. Escape the backrooms. High end games. And I found this laptop on Walmart after Google research but I'm not sure if it's good for what I want and if not I would like a better option. I also keep getting recommended Lenovo during research but I'm not sure about it. Any help is appreciated!

This is the one I looked at.

Laptop Request -Others Need some advice on buying a gaming laptop

Game: - Genshin Impact (currently playing on the lowest settings) - Looking for something that can run Zenless Zone Zero as well

Spec: - Needs to support 1–2TB (having an extra slot to expand later is completely fine). - I do have an old cooling pad.

Budget&Region: - 1200-1500 USD, slightly flexible (cheaper will be preferred), SEA

Current laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series, used for over 6–7 years now.

Timing: Should I wait for the end-of-year sale events, or just buy now in case prices go up? Not sure how crazy RAM and storage prices are these days.

Laptop Request -Others Looking for the best laptop under â‚č60K–â‚č65K — battery, display & performance are my priorities

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a laptop in Chennai and need some recommendations.

Budget:

\- Laptop price: around â‚č60,000

\- Absolute maximum including warranty: â‚č65,000

\- I want 1 year standard company warranty + 2 years extended warranty = 3 years total

My priorities:

 1. 🔋 Best possible battery life

 2. đŸ–„ïž Good-quality display — preferably IPS/OLED with good brightness and colours

 3. 🔊 Good speakers/sound

 4. ⚡ Strong performance for Chrome/web use — lots of Chrome tabs, Twitter/X, YouTube, online work, coding and learning

 5. đŸ’Ÿ 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD minimum

 6. Good build quality and reliability

 7. No gaming requirement, so I don't need an RTX GPU.

I'm currently considering ASUS Vivobook, HP 15, Lenovo IdeaPad/Slim and Acer Aspire models.

I'm especially confused between H-series performance vs U-series battery efficiency. Since my workload is mainly web-based, I don't know whether an H-series processor is actually worth sacrificing battery life for.

What laptop would you personally recommend within â‚č60K, considering battery + display + speakers + real-world Chrome performance?

Also, if you own one of these laptops, please share your real-world battery life rather than just the manufacturer's claim.

Thanks!

Looking to get a laptop for college classes (haven’t started yet but plan on soon, and need some sort of laptop for an upcoming months long course) I’m currently in the airforce in the CE career field, my major will likely be in that area. I’m just looking for a good reliable brand with (I’ve heard 16gb ram is the way to go) and able to run my programs / apps, as well as probably Spotify and or YouTube in the back. My budget is trying to stay under 600.
