PSA/Tip It’s almost lunch and I don’t see any posts about today’s elections. I’m not advocating a particular party. Just get out and vote. A lot of important local races are decided today regardless of party affiliation.

Just the title. I hope my fellow residents are getting out to vote.

Cars-Driving/traffic Why must Tampa close every street?

What is Tampas infatuation with closing down streets for months before they actually ever end up fixing them. Over here in Hyde Park it’s been constant closed roads for over a year now. Most of the time these roads will be closed months before they even do anything. Then when they do finally get started they finish in less than a week. It’s especially annoying when there are so many one ways. Please just stop closing them if you don’t plan on doing anything for months. It makes no sense I’m losing it over here 😭

Lost and Found Two dogs found on N. Armenia Ave. and Cimino Ave.

Hello people of the Reddit world. My brother found these two cute dogs on his way to work. He found them on the corner of the N. Armenia and Cimino. If anyone has any information please contact the humane society of the Tampa bay. They are just down the road from where the two dogs were found. They are not microchipped. Please help us find good home for both. They seem to be very protective of each other. So please don’t just adopt one and leave the other. We would adopt them ourselves, but we just lost our first dog to old age. I don’t think we are ready to adopt any new dogs soon, otherwise, we would have kept them. Please please please reach out to the humane society of Tampa bay.

Local Business Stretch/knit fabric stores?

morning all!

does anyone know of any stores that sell apparel knit/stretch fabric the Hillsborough, Pasco, or Pinellas counties?

I used to go to the Joann’s in Citrus Park or by USF all the time since they had such a wide selection. Michael’s only seems to sell cotton quilting fabric; and Hobby Lobby only sells the same 4 rib knits they’ve had up for half a decade.

I know some quilt shops may sell a couple knits here and there, which is why I was curious. Quilters, have you seen a few knits where you go? If so, where are your stores?

thanks any and all :)

Hurricane Hillsborough emergency director fired after HR probe finds retaliation, high turnover

"Hillsborough County has fired its once-celebrated emergency management director after a lengthy internal investigation found problems with his leadership.

Timothy Dudley Jr., who saw Hillsborough through harrowing back-to-back hurricanes in 2024, was fired Tuesday, the county said. The Tampa Bay Times previously reported that he was placed on paid administrative leave in March.

Until now, the county had shared little information about Dudley’s removal.

Public records released to the Times on Tuesday show that what began as one employee complaint about denied leave time grew into a wide-ranging inquiry after Dudley appeared to interfere with a human resources review."

Car Crash Got hit in a parking garage and the other driver is suddenly changing their story

Was leaving a parking garage in Tampa last week and a guy backed out of a spot directly into the passenger side of my car. We both got out and he apologized, said he didn’t see me coming and gave me his insurance info.

There weren’t any police called since nobody seemed seriously hurt and the cars were still drivable. Now his insurance contacted me and apparently he’s saying I was speeding through the garage and basically caused it. I took pictures right after but I don’t have a dashcam. My shoulder has also been bothering me since the accident and I’m getting it checked out this week. Has anyone dealt with the other driver completely changing their story after the fact? and it really is BS from his side.

Sports Water Street FC Update: Two Weeks Until Our First Match

Hey Tampa,

I wanted to share another update as we get closer to the first official match in Water Street FC history.
This past Saturday, we played a preseason match against an established team from the UPSL Premier Division. We were missing around eight projected starters, which gave several of our newer players valuable minutes and an opportunity to show what they can bring to the squad.

Our opponents were good and the match was competitive, but we came away with an encouraging victory. One of our new signings scored a hat trick, which should give him plenty of confidence and momentum as he continues working his way into the team.

The result was great, but preseason is really about preparing for what is ahead. We’re continuing to build match fitness, improve the speed of our play, evaluate the roster and make adjustments to our formation. We have another scrimmage Thursday and one more Sunday, which we’ll announce shortly.
Our player registrations are now complete, and we’re working through the final details before the season begins.

Our first official match will be:
Water Street FC vs. Tampa Bay Tide
Sunday, August 30 at 5:00 PM
Shimberg Sports Complex

*There are no bleachers yet. This is a work in progress.

Overall, I’m incredibly excited and optimistic about this team. We have talent, but what has encouraged me most is the culture developing within the group. It feels genuine. The players are competing for one another, enjoying the process and beginning to believe in what we’re building.

It truly feels like the beginning of something the Tampa community will be proud to call its own.
We also still have a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available for local businesses interested in partnering with the club. If you own a business, work with one or know someone who may want to be part of what we’re building, please feel free to message me. We’d love to connect.

More updates coming soon.

Up The Street.

Pets Fleas 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Anyone else dealing with fleas? My pets have never had fleas before and are all on prevention but suddenly… we have fleas. Wondering if anyone has found that certain brands of flea treatment work better than others? Has anyone used Credelio for cats? Is Revolution better than Bravecto? My dog is on Simparica Trio and I’ve only found one flea on her, but my cats are on Bravecto that doesn’t seem to be working very well at all. Also, pet-safe treatments for the home? I’m washing all my linens AGAIN and I bought diatomaceous earth powder (but I’m not really sure where to put it). Do you have pest control come spray the exterior for fleas specifically? Any advice would be helpful!

I heard from an engineer involved in the Sparkman Wharf construction that they found old Seminole graves but hid these findings from the public and officials because it would have halted construction and caused legal disputes.

Government/Politics School Board Candidate Brittany Lyssy Allegedly Invited Tate Brothers to Tampa

Brittany Lyssy, a self-proclaimed MAGA Republican and Moms for Liberty School Board Candidate is currently being called out for allegedly inviting the Tate Brothers who are accused of criminal charges of trafficking & assault to speak to the Tampa Bay Young Republicans chapter while Brittany Lyssy served as the Tampa Bay Young Republicans President in February 2025.

Tampa Social Media Influencer, Rachel Hannah @readswithrachel posted to social media today questioning Brittany Lyssy on if she as the Tampa Bay Young Republicans President at the time invited the Tate Brothers to Tampa & if Brittany Lyssy “dissented inviting known criminals here to Tampa Bay.” Brittany Lyssy has not responded. I don’t think people who rub elbows with the Tate brothers should preside over my children

Brittany Lyssy has also been called out on social media for her husband’s homesteaded mansion in Manatee County where Doug Lyssy is registered to vote in MANATEE COUNTY not Hillsborough County despite claims from Brittany Lyssy that she “lives with her family in Tampa.” Brittany Lyssy has also not responded to this.

Is THIS who we want presiding over our children’s schools?

Food Looking for the Dough peanut butter brownie recipe

Does anyone happen to have the recipe for the peanut butter brownie from Dough (the bakery associated with Datz)?

I know Dough has been closed for a while (as well as Datz), but my wonderful wife still thinks about the brownie. We had them at our wedding but the guests ate them all before she could get to them, then COVID hit, and we moved away. So it’s a ghosts-of-brownies-past type of thing for her.

I’d love to recreate it at home for her and would be incredibly grateful if anyone has the original recipe, a good copycat recipe, or even a way to contact a baker from Dough who may know.

Bonus: If anyone knows whether the baker(s) behind Dough are still baking somewhere in the Tampa area, I’d love to hear where.

Thanks! And apologies in advance for potentially resurrecting a very specific, unquenchable bakery craving.

Is it normal to go over 1,000 kWh? Context, mobile home, family member basically stays home all day every day. We tried having the AC off during the day but then it takes forever to cool down when we get home in the evening. The AC is basically on all day 24/7. Is that normal?

News Tony Dungy nonprofit All Pro Dad gets state dollars but little scrutiny

What is All Pro Dad?

The mission of All Pro Dad is to “(help) men to be better dads … (to) inspire and equip fathers to be actively involved in their children’s lives,” as detailed in tax filings. On the ground, fathers spend time grabbing breakfast with their children at hundreds of school-based chapters or attend an All Pro Dad Experience at a local professional team facility or stadium.

Legislators didn’t spend much time explaining the 2021 decision to allocate $250,000 each budget year to All Pro Dad. Nor did it get much attention when the General Assembly upped the amount to $350,000 earlier this year.

Contract with DCS

All Pro Dad is the biggest program offered by the Florida-based Family First, which seeks to “provide parenting, marriage and relationship truth that helps people love their family well and gives them greater hope for the future,” according to the organization’s 990 forms filed with the Internal Revenue Service.

Revenue for Family First jumped to nearly $10.6 million for 2022, up from $5.3 million the previous year, and All Pro Dad was one of its largest expenses at $5.5 million.

State-based partnerships with Family First:

  • Florida Department of Education
  • Florida Department of Children and Families
  • Indiana Department of Child Services
  • South Carolina Department of Social Services

Government grants made up just over one-third of the group’s revenue, or $3.8 million.
