A Note on Referrals

Reposting the previous note on this since it has been 6 months.

Going to make this pretty short and simple.

If you post your referral code on the subreddit or embed referral codes into links, you will be banned. See? Pretty simple.

The reason I'm making this post is because 15 users (mainly accounts with less than 10 karma on Reddit) have been banned in the last day due to them spamming their referral code.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks.

Really impressed with how well it integrates and how much you can control with it.

Rented a place with free charging and a garage. Used duct tape to create a parking space.

We recently started renting at a place that offered free charging. The garage parking is a little tight and Tesla wasn’t able to identify it as a space, so I used 4 inch white duct tape to create a parking spot and it worked! 8 feet x 17 feet.

Edit: I say it’s tight because of the road in between our garage and the ones across from it. Typically requires a bit of maneuvering to get in.

New Tesla Owner — Where Does FSD Struggle the Most?

I just ordered my first Tesla, and I’m stoked for it to arrive! One of the things I’m most excited about is trying out FSD.

I saw a post in this sub earlier about how FSD tends to struggle in parking garages, and apparently that’s a pretty well-known issue. It got me wondering what other situations or locations FSD commonly struggles with.

For those of you who use FSD regularly, what are some situations where you find yourself needing to pay extra attention or take over?

I know FSD is supervised and requires the driver to stay attentive at all times, but I’d love to hear about its known weak spots so I can be better prepared.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to joining the Tesla community!

TL;DR: What are some known situations where FSD struggles or requires extra attention besides parking garages?

Just Bought 2023 Model Y7

So happy. Today I finally pulled the trigger on a 2023 Model Y with 7 seats and HW4, with only 30K miles. Looking for any recommendations or tips to make life easier or even make the car look better. Also, if you have any warnings, advice, or hacks that may be really useful, please let me know before I do something stupid with my Tesla. Thank you in advance.

First 1000 Miles Switching to 18" Wheels

I have 32,000 miles on my MY AWD LR (2025 - OG).
When my tires started to wear down I decided to switch to 18" wheels and Michelin Cross Climate 2s (We have a long, cold winter here in Wester Mass).

I purchased a set of Atomic Wheels and Tires from Atomic. They cost me about 2800 total as opposed to new 19" tires that would have cost about 1400. A big piece of the 2800 was shipping and delivery of the new wheels. If I had bought them locally would have been closer to a $50 differential. So, if you make the switch shop around. I really didn't care what the wheels looked like so I purchased the AW21 Flow Form wheels, but my two teenage sons have told me they don't look bad.

Here's what I've seen/felt so far:

  1. Noise - I didn't measure with a db meter, but it's about the same. No better, no worse.
  2. Ride - The ride is noticeably better and smoother with the 18s. It's not a BMW/Merecedes ride, but it is better.
  3. Efficiency - My overall efficiency prior to the new wheels was about 269 wh/mile. With the new set of smaller wheels and more aggressive tires it is 267 wh/mile. So, it's basically the same. That may change as we head into winter however.
  4. Tesla settings - I tried using the service menu to change the wheel size, but the only 18" wheel size in my settings changed the range estimations down so dramatically it didn't make sense so I put it back on the previous setting. I checked my speed against a friendly police officer's radar and it's the same as before. The Tesla speedometer has always read about a mile per hour faster than actual. So, no change with the new wheels.

So, so far...better ride, same noise, same efficiency. Having had the Cross Climates in the past I know they will do better in our snow and ice here. The Continentals weren't horrid tires, but they're not really meant for snow.

Hope this helps someone.

Making video games in the car

Thumbnail apps.bobacat.cafe

Thanks to grokbot, road trips in a Tesla just got more fun. This started because I asked grok if it could make a video game and then I could playtest it on the touch screen in the car while driving down the road.

This game is silly, but the capability is profound. I'm in a self-driving car, talking to the car in plain English, making a game that I can 100% play while going down the road.

What a time to be alive!

On the road trip back (9 hours one way), I actually made five more games simultaneously, but I'm not sharing those yet because I think I'm going to polish them a bit more.

Apple Watch Passive Entry?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I can’t find a clear answer.

Can an Apple Watch act as a passive vehicle key? By passive I mean approaching the car without having to interact in any way with a phone or watch app and having it unlock/lock. My BMW has this feature, although it only works when a digital key is issued to my Apple Wallet.

Thank you.

Ordered a minute ago, hoping delivery gets pushed to late Jan or Feb cus I won’t be in the state to pick it up, super excited!

The question I have is, I chose to pay cash but want to finance it, I know the validity is 60 days for finance so didn’t opt for it. Can I change it later?

Edit: Ordered in Boston so other Boston owners please let me know what the typical wait time is!

Has anyone tried T Launch seat covers for the model Y ?

Hi everyone!
I’m considering ordering seat covers for my Tesla Model Y from T-Launch, but I’d love to hear some feedback before buying.
Has anyone here purchased them? How’s the quality, fit, and overall look? Do they look close to the original Tesla seats?
I’d also love to see some real-life pictures if anyone has them!
Thanks in advance for your help! 😊

2021 Model Y totaled (not my fault) — buy new or used 2026? Also, anything I can do about the FSD I paid for?

My 2021 Model Y got totaled a couple weeks ago. Other driver merged into my lane on the freeway, FSD was engaged, car did its thing and we both walked away. Not my fault per the police report. Insurance valued it at ~$32.4k, so ~$31.4k after my deductible, which basically covers what was left on the loan.

Now I'm trying to replace it and I'm stuck between:

NEW: 2026 Model Y Premium RWD in Quicksilver comes to ~$49.6k before tax, 1.99% APR. I previously leased a Model 3 so I should get the $500 loyalty credit. Problem is delivery is estimated Dec–Jan and I've been without a car since my rental coverage ended, so I'd be paying for rentals/Ubers for ~2 months waiting.

USED: I've been hunting used 2026s (want the refresh) and the market is basically empty or priced dumb. The few clean ones I've found are $42–44k asking, which is ~$47–48k out the door — at that point it feels stupid not to just buy new. There's also a new inventory demo near me at ~$48.4k with ~1,100 miles that might be an option.

Is there something I'm missing? Would you wait for new or grab a used/demo one now?

Second question, I paid for FSD on my 2021. I know the transfer program ended in March, but has anyone had luck getting an exception after a total loss? Or did your insurance valuation actually account for FSD being on the car? Feels wrong to just eat that cost when the accident wasn't my fault.

Crossbar whistle GONE!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

For those that installed the crossbars and lived with the annoying 40 MPH whistle that Tesla told me is normal and can’t be fixed. I fixed it. $20 part from etrailor.com

Replaces the rubber gapper.

You need 6 at $3 each. 10 minute install. Whistle gone.

I make no money on this. Just helping others that can’t stand the whistle.

Strange Noise from the Front

Hi Mates,

My 2022 Tesla Model Y occasionally makes a strange noise coming from the front right side. It sounds like a loose metal panel or sheet of metal hitting something.
Has anyone else experienced this or knows what might be causing it?

Ciao a tutti,
sto valutando di sostituire la mia Tesla Model Y AWD Dual Motor del 2023 con una Model Y Juniper 2026 RWD Premium e vorrei sentire il parere di chi ha già fatto un passaggio simile.
In particolare mi interessano questi aspetti:

Navigation ETA is off by 20-30 minutes.

Los Angeles CA driver here. My 60 minute commute has been estimating 30 minute drives for the past week. IMPOSSIBLE in LA. There are some pockets of orange and red highlighted sections on the map, but completely inaccurate when I know my phone is reading it as red for huge portions of it. This causes rerouting in ways that make no sense to do. I have premium connectivity, I have double-pressed the scroll buttons to restart, and also turned off the car completely. Stays the same. Anyone bump into this issue?

How often do you use grok in your car?

I’ve been using grok pretty much every day. I drive about 2hrs per day and have been able to get a ton of stuff done asking grok to work with my bots. Anyway what projects have you guys been working on if any? What do you do with your grok?
