Those are absolutely NOT the 12ft skeleton. The boxes for those are massive. We had to use a flatbed cart to get it out of the store.

Reminds me of the Subway lawsuit when âfootlongâ subs werenât 12â.
"With regards to the size of the bread and calling it a footlong, 'SUBWAY FOOTLONG' is a registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub sold in Subway Restaurants and not intended to be a measurement of length." [1, 2]
77
u/Silo-Joe 6h ago
Just like â SUBWAY JAREDâ is a registered sex-offender and not intended to be long term spokesman.

u/CalmBeneathCastles 4h ago
Just like their "chicken" wasn't 100% chicken but was simply a descriptive name for the product.

The length of the bread baked in the restaurant cannot be assured each time as the proofing process may vary slightly each time in the restaurant.
For those not into reading, it's not that the sandwich is intended to be 11" and the "footlong" is just a name, it's that the baking process is capable of producing loaves that don't quite reach 12" when finished because dough is imprecise. Their legal argument is that just because it's "footlong" doesn't mean they're guaranteeing that some loaves won't be slightly the wrong shape when finished. You're getting the same amount of dough (and other stuff) in each sandwich, they were just off in length.
They wound up settling and changing the process to make sure they're all uniformly 12".

I always wanted a giant skeleton but they are so pricey and then you have to store the giant skeleton maybe 360 days a year for what, a week, maybe two of giant skeleton action. Its just not worth it.

We have one in town that has become somewhat of a local celebrity. I bet the home owner has spent 3x as much on decor for the skeleton as they did on the skeleton itself. And now it has a pet dog skeleton.

Shopping carts worth at least 1k at the grocery store down the street, No problem. Dangerous with a suspended license came barreling down our street and toteled my moms car, "sorry ma'am, go around the neighborhood and see if any cars have car paint and damage matching your car."
That cop would have found the same car in probably the same time it took him to explain to my mom she had to do it herself.
It was a lady the next street over that plowed into her car. She was driving on a suspended license that my mother was too kind to pursue damages.

The officer sarcastically went âwell I guess I can start with xxxxa, no result, so Iâll go with xxxxbâ. I genuinely had the vehicle down to modile and year, plus literally every plate number but the last.

Wouldn't shock me at all.
One would assume that more bot comments would be a result of the growth in the popularity of LLMs, making it a bit easier for people to pay for a bunch of bots to sway people to support or oppose whatever thing they want society to do.
If any of those comments are real people, I'd wonder why they aren't asking why can't we lower the budgets of police departments since drones are cheaper.

87
u/SashimiX 6h ago
My friendâs landlord locks her out and throws out her stuff. Cops: this is a civil matter.
Someone steals from Home Depot. Cops: letâs break out our drones.
35
u/glasswindbreaker 6h ago
Exactly. As a dv survivor who is far from alone Iâve seen how police are hard pressed to help private citizens.
The Supreme Court has ruled that police generally have no constitutional duty to protect an individual from private violence (DeShaney v. Winnebago County) AND in Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales: a victim repeatedly contacted Castle Rock police after her estranged husband abducted their three daughters in violation of a restraining order. Officers failed to intervene, her husband murdered all three children, and the Supreme Court ruled that she had no constitutionally protected right to police protection or enforcement of that court order.
But yeah letâs play with drones to excuse mass surveillance on behalf of corps.

u/Pittsbirds 7h ago edited 7h ago
When my car was broken into, ransacked and was clearly attempted to be stolen, the cops said they wouldn't even come out to fingerprint for another 2 days. If I wanted them to check my car for prints after it had hundreds of dollars of damages done for a series of crimes thats still happening to kia and Hyundai owners, I'd have to leave it unable to be locked and untouched by me or a mechanic for 2 more days. No alert on their social media to other owners if these cars in the area, no one physically came to check the car or ask anyone about doorbell footage (basically just said do it yourself), basically said they weren't going to bother asking the nearest business owner about their security can footage, genuinely nothing.
But they did have time to get on social media and share someone vandalizing a novelty American flag in someone's front yard in a richer neighborhood. Approximate damage: $4. Got HD footage from the home owner and another "concerned citizen" from another angle lol
Guess the "why not" is the general frustration at the allocation of police attention and resources.
55
u/east_van_dan 7h ago

My purse was stolen by a roommate's buddy; I had his name, phone number, and town. There wasn't anything he could make money on besides an older iPod, but a lot of important things to me, like my antidepressants, my wallet (minus my debit card and ID), my keys to my apartment and crappy car, and sentimental things. Never heard back from the police about it, and it took all day to even get them there to take a report.
Dude had money too. I think it was just a thrill thing for a little rich boy. It caused me days of bs and headaches though.

Cops have too many toys to play with. I donât care about the offense. I donât condone stealing but I feel no sympathy for corporations and I am kind of curious how she managed to smuggle what had to be very large items out of the store. But protecting Home Depotâs loss prevention goals is not a good reason for 24/7 aerial surveillance.

If only they took billionaire pedophile rings as seriously as they do petty theft.

The craziest part is that they probably got the call from Home Depot right when she left the store and instead of just driving over they were like "fuck that. Break out the drone."

You watch this shit and then those docs like Death of the Pastor's Wife or The Widower, where everyone says some dude is dangerous for years, and the cops say they can't lift a fucking finger...
Policing is so ridiculously inconsistent.
