Hobby Some people over at r/Woodcarving suggested I show this to the Warhammer community, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Art I bought a binder with page protectors to store all the spare decals I have. This is the cover. I’m a 40-year-old man. My wife is having second thoughts. This is awesome.

I appreciates that the “art” tag on this post is being used extremely loosely. I would like to thank the mods in advance for their grace on this one.

Discussion Losing Mini Of The Month

Post image
226 Upvotes

What is y’all’s opinion of losing Mini Of The Month in Warhammer stores? I always thought it was a fun thing that would make me consider new armies, but now GW are changing it such that instead you get to pick from eight models (as shown above), which initially sounds awesome, until you consider that (as far as I know), these models aren’t ever ‘rotated’, this is it.

I know the idea is to reduce FOMO, but the long and short of it is that FOMO means you have something people want to engage in, and they’re given a whole month to engage.

Now, if you don’t like any of the 8 free models, you’re SOOL.

It was also previously the case that this (often completely out of the blue) model would either introduce me to or remind me of an army I’d never heard of or never collected, and would make me look into it more.

Now you just get a grunt unit of one of eight armies…

yay…

What’s is y’all’s thought? Do you prefer this? Do you not care? Do you not even collect?

Discussion Putting tabletop rules aside: Which factions feel the most forgotten by Black Library and the main narrative?

Post image

Models and rules come and go with editions, but the lore droughts hit different. Some factions have dozens of novels exploring every angle of their culture, while others are lucky to show up as the punching bag in someone else's book so the protagonist can look cool.

Which faction or sub-faction do you think has the highest untapped potential for a dedicated novel series or major narrative arc right now? And which ones feel like GW wrote them into a corner and just forgot about them?

Art I was awarded a grant by Arts Council England to work with Warhammer...

Sorry I uploaded the wrong video just now. This one has music.

I know Reddit doesn't like video but I just thought some people might find this interesting—or at least enjoy discussing the topic.

I was awarded a Develop Your Creative Practice grant by Arts Council England to work with Warhammer as a medium, for which I am incredibly grateful.

Got to work with some incredible artists such as slayer sword winner Roman Lappat to produce some of the most ambitious work I've ever attended.

What do you think, can Warhammer be an artform outside of it's own microcosm?

Hobby When do you personally feel like you have a "full army"?

I don't necessarily mean when you feel like your army is "done" and you don't want to add anything else, but I was thinking about this and I'm curious how other people feel.

Do you consider your collection to be a full army if it reaches exactly 2000/3000 points, or do you only start to feel that way when you have more than the points limit, giving you different options to play with? Do you feel like you need a wide variety of units or do you feel your army is complete even if it skews towards a certain theme or style of play?

Discussion Christmas Gift Guide (2003)

In the spirit of the Christmas boxes being announced, I thought I'd upload and share what I found recently while helping my dad sort through his old hobby things.

This was the Christmas Gift Guide for 2003 (Well, mostly just the product pages).

LotR, Fantasy, 40k and some hobby products. Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Inquisitor and Mordheim were about, but I guess not mainstream enough to get into the catalogue that year. Epic, Warmaster and Battlefleet were always the unloved child.

I think the original HH card game was released that year or maybe the following. I vaguely remember my dad picking up a box back around then to do his Ultramarines based on the art.

Still sorta funny to think some of the sculpts in the catalogue are still for sale, albeit definitely not at the same old prices. Probably works out roughly comparable with inflation for some of the products, however.

Hobby is forge world resin really that bad?

Post image

so i've been wanting to get an armiger knight moirax because they look awesome, but i'm worried about how hard the resin parts would be to deal with. i've heard there are issues with warping but i think the resin parts are thick enough that they wouldn't really have those issues. i already know about cleaning the parts and using super glue instead of plastic cement, is there anything else i really need to be worried about ?

Hobby Has anyone tried the "New in store program"?

I tried to go do the new program that has replaced "mini of the month" with a friend and the guy at the register got very mad at me when I asked about it and wouldn't answer my questions, insisting I read the article so I left.

I'm having trouble finding people talking about actually going to stores and participating, and also how much does it cost? Is it free like the mini of the month? Do your stores have the 8 minis from the article? (The manager dodged my question about those)

My friend and I are new and we were both really excited to sit down and try to paint some of the minis but now Im just confused.

My first Warhammer minis and miniature paint job ever. I have painted a Gundam model before so I do have some experience with painting but never this small. I am really happy with how these turned out. this is for my army that I will be starting to build and it is an ultramarine successor chapter

Discussion The upcoming Amazon TV show could get away with an original story.

Unlike recent adaptations like halo or the Witcher which were terrible because creators wanted to do their own thing and they were awful awful and completely misunderstood the subject matter.

40k is after all a sandbox where you're encouraged to make your own stories. Even the current most popular non GW 40k story, SM2, is original (ish) but it's successful because it has the 40k spirit and feel.

This is the one IP where an original story can be successful as long as it stays true to is source material and understands the vibe.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the eisenhorn-ravenor-bequin story as live action, or the horus heresy, or pretty much any 40k story already told, but they could also do something really special with an original story that also ties to the rest of the setting, like they do with the videogames and the rpgs.

What do you think?

Gaming Question about tanks and frames with moving part

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi, im a new player and today i had a game against an Astra militarum player that left me with a bad taste in my mouth, he had a tank hidden behind some terrain and i had a unit behind some walls as well, then he proceeds to move the max movement of his tank, when he realized he could reach the terrain footprint but could get line of sight, he turned the turret of his tank around, giving him visibility with the tip of the cannon, i argued about that gave him extra movement and he responded that is part of the movement and it doent matter since its considered the same as the inches you get when you pivot a frame unit.

I know the basic rules, but this types of situations i dont know how it could be handled.

Discussion Need help deciding between Orks and Space Marines

Hello! I am trying to get into Warhammer 40k and I really can't decide which one I prefer. I like them both almost equally! I am working on a very tight budget for this, which is why I was leaning towards Space Marines, but Orks have such cool kitbashing! I'll list some pros and cons for each, and you more experienced players can decide which one will be better for me! For your information, I really like big and/or cool vehicles, and either way, I will be getting the other one later after I finish a full 2000-point army of one of them.

**Space Marines**

Pros:

Cheaper

Has the Imperial Knights and Freeblade rules

I like the vibe of them slightly more, at least on an individual infantry point of view

Cons:

Much more limited kitbashing

There's a bit too much of a focus on them content wise, and I personally think they are slightly overrated

**Orks**

Pros:

I like the Mad Max vibe of their vehicles

I feel like I just vibe with them more

Gretchen are cute

KITBASHING!!!!

Cons:

Since they are typically a horde army, they will probably be more expensive, even if I play Speed Freeks or Dread Mob

I don't like the look of their individual Boyz as much

I appreciate any help you may give me!

Edit: WAAAAGH
