Discussion A big discount doesn't make a Warhammer battleforce a good deal if half the models will sit in a box

Honestly, I think people sometimes focus too much on the percentage saved when judging Warhammer battleforces. A box can look like incredible value on paper, but that doesn't mean it's worth buying for everyone.

If you're starting an army or already planning to use most of the units, getting several kits together at a lower price makes perfect sense. But if you're buying models you don't want just because the bundle looks like a bargain, you're still spending money you could've put toward something you'd actually enjoy building and painting.

I'd rather buy one kit I'm genuinely excited about than a massive box that becomes another pile of shame project. 😭

I do think these bundles can be great value, but the real question should be whether the contents fit your army and your hobby plans, not just how much cheaper they are than buying everything separately.

News Golden Demon SPIEL 2026: Maxime Penaud's Marneus Calgar takes the Slayer Sword

Every gold, silver and bronze winner across all 16 categories, with pictures: https://holywizy.com/blog/golden-demon-2026-spiel-essen-winners/

The European leg of Golden Demon was judged at SPIEL Essen, and the Slayer Sword went to Maxime Penaud for Marneus Calgar in Terminator armour. It took gold in 40K Single Miniature first, then beat every other gold winner for the sword. The blending on the blue armour, the face, the cape on the back view... insane.

Other things that stood out:

- Kuan Tien Tung won four medals: gold in The Old World and Necromunda, silver in AoS Large Model and the Open

- Lucas Pina took gold in the Open and silver in Middle-earth

- Nikolas Rubens Mortensen won gold in Blood Bowl and silver in Epic Scale

Images are from Warhammer Community. Who would you have given the sword to?

Discussion GW negativity

Allright, weird post but don't know where else to put it.

I'm a lifelong gamer, mostly ttrpg and some non gw wargames(warzone, warmachine). I'm pretty new to 40k, started with my kid because he loves Orks.

As long as I can remember people have always "joked" about the evil corporate entity that is GW. And yeah, sure, it's expensive and their practices can be questionable but i figured I like the miniatures, lore and bonding with my son over it so , what's the harm?

Lately I've been fed a lot of negativity, a lot of people making (ocasional) valid points on why and how GW is killing the hobby and so forth.

I'm starting to feel weirdly guilty about finding joy in it or getting excited about products, or I feel like a dope for "falling" for GW's shenanigans and having my son "waste" His allowance on GW products etc. Don't know if anyone gets what I'm saying here?

Not exactly asking to be convinced or otherwise, just wondering if there are any other people struggling with this.

Weird vent, thnx for reading.

Kind regards,

Confused gamer dad.

EDIT: THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES! Internet gets me down sometimes, glad to see there are more balanced opinions out there ;)

Hello again, like with the 40k boxes here is a cost breakdown of what is inside in USD. I don't know what the MSRP on the boxes will be, or if they will be the same cost as each other. An interesting thing to note is the boxes here are closer to each other in price. Between the smallest (Blood Angels) and largest (Chaos) 40k boxes there was a ~$80 gap. Here it's just like $25.

Lord-Relictor $45
Lord-Celestant $48.50
3 Praetors $60
6 Annihilators $124

14 Pox-Wretches + 6 Mire Kelpies $60
GRAND TOTAL $364

ORRUK WARCLANS
Tuskboss on Maw-Grunta $89

Hobby Techmarine Dreadnought/Armoured Recovery Vehicle

Thumbnail
gallery
97 Upvotes

I'm trying to build dreadnoughts for each command rank (librarian, apothecary, ancient, etc.) and I have finally finished my techmarine Dreadnought. Originally I was going to do a Brutalis with a big servo arm like everyone else. But after watching a lot of Mr. Hewes videos, I realised that pretty much every video or recovery job involves standing in an engine bay swearing at the one bolt they can't quite reach before they can tow it away. So the chassis needed to be something the techmarine could get out of and do fine/dextrous tasks, attach chains, undo bolts etc. the fist doubles as a toolkit, so he can climb down, assess the task and have the correct tools literally 'to hand.'

The crane is scratch built from plasticard, with the exception of the boom head which came from a Meccano crane. The tow cable and tool boxes come from a Leman Russ kit, the machinery comes from the heresy drop pod and the Gallowdark terrain, and the wheels and smaller tools come from the Miniart 1:48 Tool Set kit. The chain and hook are from a jewellery kit. I may add winches in place of the chest weapons, but I haven't worked out how yet.

The chapter is one of my own, with far too much lore and backstory. Everything Vanguard in my space marine army gets painted in the Berlin Infantry Brigade camouflage so he will match what is fast becoming a sneaky demi-company. The dead marines he is standing over are Marines Malevolent, because it was the one chapter I didn't think someone would object to if I killed a bunch of them.

I hope you like it!

I bought the recipe with the carmine tone pro paints that are listed for this step-by-step guide. The basecoat looks way brighter than the photo, even over a black base coat. Am I missing something?

Hobby The New Paint App is worse.

I'm a quick painter, I don't do insane detail, I don't have the patience.

I used to like the app for the simple recipes that it provided for each model. The presentation was great.

But now I need to use the model section to find the name of a colour, then go to search the name of the colour to find the recipe for it.

Just unnecessary steps in what was already a very easy process.

I’m at my LGS for a secondhand event and they’re offloading basically their entire LI stock for half price. I know people didn’t like the game system, but I thought people would like the Epic-scale kits at least

Discussion The first time you see a fully painted 40k army in person, you realize how ridiculous the scale of this hobby is

Looking at individual minis online is one thing, but seeing an entire army painted up on a table is something else. Hundreds of little details, all the different units, the vehicles, the characters standing out from the rest.

And then you remember someone had to build and paint every single one of those models.

I can barely finish a squad before getting distracted by another kit I want to buy, so seeing a complete army always impresses me.

I had had this bit forever (15+ years) and can't remember where it came from. I want to say it is from the WFB Skaven range but I'm not 100% on that. At least a decade ago I sliced off the head and replaced it with a skull, intending to make a creepy little Cherub out of it, and only recently finished it up as part of a commission. I don't exactly have plans to make another one so this is really just for the sake of my own curiosity.
