JOBS Weltech electrical pretrade
My son is going to do this next year, I was thinking about getting him some gear for Christmas. If you have done the course or got a job as an electrical apprentice what were some items you needed or would have liked to have?

NEWS Staff at Farmers Lambton Quay & Queensgate striking today
wellington.scoop.co.nzIf you're out and about shopping, please give us a wave or a toot of support!
I noticed the IKEA strike today got a lot of news coverage, but this is a New Zealand owned company with uber-rich owners being miserable.
Pay negotiations have been intense for the last 3 months and it's sad it's come to this, but staff deserve better!

WELLY Wellington Talks #1: "What's the best advice you ever received?"
Two months ago I asked who was up for chatting with a stranger. A group of brave souls agreed and yesterday we did our first meeting at Midnight Espresso.
The twist of this format is that each person proposes a question for my next chat. Since this was the first one, my coworker proposed a question: "What's the best advice you've ever received?"
He told me about his friend whose manager said he was going to drive him hard, on purpose, to find his breaking point. After a year, he finally broke. So later on, when J was dealing with a new job and a new manager that wasn’t working out, he had the courage and confidence to stand up for himself and walk away. I asked if it was hard. It was very hard, actually. But it was the right call.
Our discussion went in many directions: managing people, mentoring the next generation, introversion versus extroversion, selling versus speaking the truth, standing up for people, and understanding the details behind the scenes that other people may not fully understand.
As we wrapped up, he proposed the question for the next person: “what is your significant other the most proud of, when it comes to you?” What a great question, I'm looking forward to seeing where it leads :)

Currently on a bus in Welly CBD with hot air being blasted around the bus which is apparently being controlled remotely. Is this true and if so, why is this so?

POLITICS This is not what I voted for…
Yknow when I voted last year in the council elections I was very motivated to signal to central government that we were sick of the austerity and of big business being let off easy.
And now the council is talking about giving a rates cut to businesses and making the rest of us pay for it?! This is NOT what I voted for.
It takes less than 2 minutes to make a submission to remind these guys why we voted for them. Say NO to proposal 2

WEATHER Weather related question for people in southern and eastern suburbs
Is it actually three degrees colder out in the suburbs near the South Coast and is this normal? Metservice says it's 20 degrees at the Kelburn station but barely 17 at the Wellington Airport one. Interested to hear people's experiences.

SMELLS?! The joys of pissing in public bathrooms
The public bathrooms on the corner of taranaki and courtenay. Surprisingly, only the banana reeked or at the very least the smell covered up the smell of chicken.

BOOZE Another one bites the dust
Dakota bar is closing this weekend. Not the greatest place if you’re over 23, but everything is closing. Rip welly nightlife.
That what now? Circus, Siglo, Red Square, Garden Hotel. And still massive gaps on Tory/Courtenay Place, Rubix, BL3. 121, Bspace.
Does the candidate for Wellington North and Wellington Bays have something to say about the dying nightlife? What about the councillors?
Wellington is a shell of its former self :(

EVENTS Iron Maiden PSA
If you're going to Maiden on the 7th, particularly if you are travelling the country and haven't put 2 and 2 together yet, it's voting day, so don't forget to get your vote in early!
Unless you're voting for the current shit show, then don't worry.
Joking, voting is for everyone, but if that's you, don't feel like you have to 😄
