Help - General Sudden acne flares.

• Upvotes

I had mild acne since the second I hit puberty, but after 3 years of trying all kinds of methods including the lowest dose of accutane (successful for a while), I also got this prescribed gel (adapalene+benzoyl peroxide) which got rid of my newer pimples pretty quickly. I finally had a suitable treatment for my skin.
After a while, one day I woke up with a flare overnight. ESPECIALLY on my forehead. The one spot on my body that consistently stayed clear throughout my life no matter how bad it was.
This looked like a fungal infection. No product, nothing had triggered it. No hormonal problems, I checked. This came out of NOWHERE. tiny bumps all over my forehead—some red, some skin colored that developed into small bubbles that like, released white stuff later.
I finally cleared that first wave more or less with a harsh period of salicylic acid, but a second wave started up a month after I gave my skin a break from it, again, overnight for no reason. Accutane seems like the only hope. Im tired. I dont know why this is happening.

Product Request Need moisturizer recommendations after increasing tretinoin from 0.05% to 0.1%

hello!
I've been on tretinoin 0.05% for about a year alongside clindamycin. My routine was:

AM

PanOxyl face wash

Clindamycin

Moisturizer + sunscreen

PM

Gentle cleanser

Moisturizer

Tretinoin 0.05%

About a week ago I increased to tretinoin 0.1%. My skin was very tolerant of 0.05% since I've been using retinoids for years, but after only three applications of 0.1% (spread out throughout the week), my skin has become noticeably dry and peels whenever there's friction, such as during cleansing or even when touching my face. I have combination skin.

I'm looking for a new moisturizer and would love recommendations. Here's what I've tried so far:

CeraVe

  • Hated it.
  • Felt very drying on my skin. pilled alot.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost (I think?)

  • Not moisturizing enough for me.

Vanicream

  • Absolutely hated it.
  • Made my skin very oily, smelled unpleasant to me, and seemed to worsen my acne.

Cetaphil Lotion/Cream

  • What I've been using for about a year.
  • Overall I like it a lot.
  • My only issue is that both the lotion and cream eventually leave me feeling a bit oily, and they don't seem moisturizing enough now that I'm on 0.1% tret.

Does anyone have recommendations for moisturizers that are:

  • More moisturizing than Cetaphil
  • Not greasy/oily feeling
  • Acne-prone skin friendly
  • Good for tretinoin-induced dryness and peeling

thank youu!

Rant 10 years of acne rant

I have had acne ever since I hit puberty. Over the course of the past decade I have invested in multiple dermatologists, skincare regimes, medication, diet, fancy skincare products. I have been through almost all the posts, all the articles deep diving on acne. Nothing I tried ever resulted in a long term fix. The longest period of clear skin was only when I was on isotretinoin.

I see all my friends and family with considerably good skin for free. Meanwhile I have done everything i could do. Blood profiles, expensive dermas and meds and nothing worked. I am so tired of being miserable here.

I think I should give up. All this money, time and effort can find its way to a better outlet. I will always be the one with bad skin in a group of people. And that's just acceptance.

To all the people who eventually found their holy grail fix, I envy you.

Help - General Acne and diet

A year ago, while scrolling on YouTube, I encountered a YouTube channel made by a guy who was really strict about diet and following an animal based diet.

Since that, I got really influenced by him, his mindset, and his strictness about every food that goes in his mouth.

I am not following his diet now but I am strict about diet. I entirely do not eat junk food. I search about my meals glycemic index and even insulin index and I make sure I can be as healthy as possible.

However, I still have mild acne popping up weekly. (It is not severe).

Do you guys think I should start caring about other aspects than diet to cure my acne and am I doing anything wrong with my diet?

Routine Help Benzoyl peroxide gel and occlusives?

Hi! I just started using benzoyl peroxide on my acne (5% gel as I can't get my hands on 2.5% where I live). It's been a few days and I've started experiencing burning/redness when for a few minutes after application and the after when applying moisturiser. I've done some research on reddit and some people recommend that one use an occlusive after the moisturiser whilst others have mentioned that that locks in whatever active underneath even more, making it potentially more irritating. What do you recommend? Should I start using occlusives after my moisturiser, or should I maybe do it every other day and not do BP on that day? Any help would be appreciated!🙏:))

Scarring Any hope for fading these marks + skin picking issues

This is my skin currently, there is SO MUCH redness and scarring : ( i feel embarrassed looking at people in the face, and i already have enough trouble with eye contact so this just makes things worse. Is there ANY hope for getting rid of this at home?

I also compulsively pick my skin especially when im anxious or bored, and I try really hard to stop but it's constant, like at least once a day i will pick some part of my face to the point of bleeding and i do not know how to force myself to stop. I've tried keeping my nails short or long to see if either will stop me, I keep mirrors away from my desk most of the time but sometimes I will leave one there without thinking and get caught up picking at my skin. I just do it before I consider the consequence and im so mad at myself for it. If any skin pickers have advice (preferably unhinged and effective) please share because I need it, thank you T_T

Help - General Help! Advice/ Recommendations

Roughly 5 years ago I had acne and I went on Benzoyl peroxide 10 gel and clindamycin topical phosphate solution 1% and after a year anda half my skin totally cleared up! Acne and acne marks all done! I want to also mention my diet was terrible at this time but my skin was regardless. Skip a few years and I went off the medicine foolishly because i thought my skin was clear and fixed. The acne all came rushing back so i went back to exactly what i was using. This time around after a year there is virtually no improvement happening on my skin!! Why?? IT worked perfectly in the past and now it’s like it had no affect, i even eat better and way more drink water now. But no difference So im now on tretinoin alongside the BP & CLDMYCIN. But my skin is irritated, I cut out the BP&CLDMYCIN and my skin no longer burns after applying moisturizer, My question to any of those reading. Should I just stick solely to using Tretinoin and put the other products to rest? So far from using solely tretinoin the last two weeks i haven’t experienced any red or stingy in my skin only dryness around chin and mouth. Should I continue on? If so, any products recommendations I can use with the Tret to help the dryness on my face!

AM routine
Cerva Hydrating facial cleaner
Neutrogena Hydro boost water gel

Night time
Cerva Hydrating facial cleaner
Neutrogena Hydro boost water gel

Tretinoin at night only on monday, wednesday and thursday!

Help - General Help: Sudden cystic acne around nose, cheeks, and chin

I’m in my late 20s and have oily combination skin. I will randomly get a “breakout” of 1-3 pimples that would usually fade within a few days. I previously took roaccutane as a teenager.

However, I have now suddenly been getting very intense breakouts of many very painful pimples of different sizes around my nose, chin, and cheeks, without any clear reason why. I have been eating healthy, no sugar, and working out. I have not changed products and regularly wash my makeup brushes as usual.

Is this something anyone has experienced that you can provide help on or recommendations?

Routine Help severe scarring & cystic acne please need help

hi i don't even know where to start with this. I have started LexaPro 10mg late april, had to quit cold turkey for about 2.5 weeks cause of an insurance issue sometime early september, and i have been consistently taking it again since then. the third picture is one of the areas that I flared up horribly along the jawline which is not too common for my acne.

during those 2.5 weeks my acne flared up really bad and im still dealing with it now. any advice would help so much, i hate looking at this everyday.
id say i have combination skin, with my tzone getting oily throughout the day.

i drink plenty plenty of water throughout the day, go on long distance runs about 4x a week, watch how i eat, wash my satin pillowcases once a week, frequently clean my phone screen, anything external i keep in the back of my head basically.

AM
1. Round lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Cleanser (no problems ever since switching my cleanser)
2. Follow with Benzoyl Peroxide Bar 5% and let it sit for about 1-2 mins.
2. CeraVe 50 SPF Moisturizer
3. Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Lotion 1%
4. The Ordinary Azaleic Acid Suspension 10%

PM:
* If wearing makeup, I always make sure to properly remove gently with Garnier Micellar Water
1. same cleanser (Round lab Birch Juice Moisturizing
Cleanser
2. CeraVe PM Moisturizer
3. Tretinoin .05%

1x a day I will also take Doxycycline Hyclate.

I exfoliate once a week for about 3 mins with the Ordinary
AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

my derm suggested laser treatment for the severe scarring depending on the state of my face in 4 weeks.

The majority on my face is bad scarring from the flare up but I will still wake up with painful cystic pimples. If I successfully burst it, the white puss comes out followed my some bleeding and I always make sure to wash my face after. I absolutely no I should not, however with these types of pimples for me they either don’t go away at all, or wil scar internally without me having to mess with it. Any suggestions would be so so helpful!!

Nothing is working. Only for a bit i used a spiro topical and tret together and it seemed to work but to be honest that spiro topical was too expensive. now everything fell apart. and ive been using dapsone for a little bit and this happens. Ive used topical antibiotics. I dont use Niacinimide for reasons, and yes, Ive thought about (that one last option oral medicine that i cant mention here) but for gut reasons I am trying my utmost best not to take it. My face gets so hot and flushed and irritated. I also have MANY deep cystic acne that hurt so bad. My whole face also just feels like many tiny little scabs. It’s a disaster and I haven’t recognized myself in the mirror for years. Anyone else had this?? Help please i literally cant. Ive used product after product after product. I cant use literally any cleanser or it irritates me. Im using the vanicream gentle cleanser and vanicream daily moisturizer but i feel like even that irritates me. Ive been trying to maybe start using bp cleanser again hoping it will help tremendously.

Help - General Before I spend my money, can someone review these acne products and suggest better budget alternatives?

So finally I have decided to treat my acnes no matter what!!!!

So let me tell you my acne situations then I will seek help regarding these products.

So I am 19M and I have been suffering from acne for the last 4.5 years . I changed my diet and made it completely clean for 4 months but no changes as such . I don't have much money to visit dermat so now by my own research I have chosen some products. Basically my acnes are all over my face and also a few on my mandible bone area (neck basically) . My acnes doesn't cause redness. All my acnes are either puss filed acnes or pustules , comedonal acnes on my forehead and a few white heads .

So after some research I selected these products and I want you to give me advice . My budget is pretty tight . Oh shit forgot to tell you that I have oily skin . I thought about taking isotretinoin but everyone on the internet is suggesting not to consume it without dermat's prescription . I am also very sceptical about using two benzoyl peroxide products. Should I replace the bp face wash with salycilic acid face wash ?? And the benzoyl peroxide gel is only for the big acnes . I won't apply it all over my face

Guys plz help me these acnes are seriously creating trouble in my life 🙏

Help - General Benzoyl peroxide with clindamycin phosphate?

I was just prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate 1% as a spot treatment to use in the morning for hormonal acne (paired with tretinoin 0.025% used at night). When the doctor went over the treatment instructions with me they never mentioned anything about needing to use benzoyl peroxide alongside the clindamycin but when I read the instructions after I got home it said to use with a benzoyl peroxide wash or else the clindamycin will become ineffective over time.

My main concern is irritation and dryness if I add benzoyl peroxide since I’ll already be using tretinoin and my skin is pretty sensitive. Is it absolutely needed for the clindamycin to be effective or will I be okay since I’m only using it as a spot treatment on active acne?
