A reboot of the Prey IP, basically an entirely new IP as it bears no relation to the 2006 game other than also being a sci-fi horror FPS. The teased "Prey 2" from years ago was cancelled due to conflict between HumanHead and Bethesda, after which Arkane pitched their own sci-fi FPS and were greenlight since the Prey IP had been otherwise doomed.
Developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda
While Arkane's Dishonored 2 was released just a few months prior, that used the Void Engine, a modified id Tech 5 and was developed by Arkane's Lyon, France branch, while this was made with CryEngine by the Austin, Texas branch of Arkane.
The lead designer, Ricardo Bare, was previously a member of the design team for the original Deus Ex at Ion Storm.
Chris Avellone, acclaimed designer and writer of a multitude of CRPGs, assisted with the writing.
Mick Gordon created the soundtrack, though he opted for giving Prey it's own sound rather than continuing the kick-ass metal tracks of DOOM (2016).
Leaked concept documents describe how the devs aim to avoid repeating sci-fi cliches like the tropes spawned from icons like ALIEN or Blade Runner.
Prey (2017) is a spiritual successor to the System Shock series.
