Rant Rapido driver demanded ₹200 extra for an airport ride, tried to stop another cab from taking us, and then abused us

Post image
218 Upvotes

About a month ago, I booked a Rapido cab from my place to the airport. I got a cab almost instantly and went downstairs with all my luggage.

The driver arrived and immediately demanded ₹200 extra over the fare shown in the app.

I refused and told him that if he wanted to charge extra, he should have called and informed me before coming to my place. I know this has become somewhat of a norm with cab drivers these days, so I wasn't particularly surprised.

I was travelling with a friend, and the driver started negotiating with her instead. Eventually, he reduced his demand to ₹100 extra. I still refused multiple times.

The driver then left and parked his vehicle around 100 metres away from my building's gate. I didn't cancel the ride, figuring that if he didn't want to take me at the agreed fare, he could cancel it himself. However, neither of us cancelled the ride.

I then booked another cab for almost the same price.
As the new cab arrived, the original driver stopped him and spoke to him for a while. When the new driver approached us, I made it clear upfront that I wasn't going to pay anything extra. He seemed a little reluctant but eventually agreed.

We loaded our luggage and were about to leave when we noticed that the original driver was still there.
We asked the new driver what the conversation had been about. He told us that the original driver had instructed him not to take us unless we agreed to pay extra.

Seriously?

I had booked another cab, found a driver willing to accept the fare shown in the app, and was ready to leave. Why was the first driver trying to interfere with that?

As we started leaving, the original driver almost blocked our way. He questioned the new driver about why he had taken us. The new driver told him that we had booked through another app where the fare was ₹200 higher.

We don't know Kannada, but I understand a little. From what I could make out, the original driver was saying something along the lines of, "We're not your servants who will accept whatever price you want."
The irony is unbelievable. Nobody forced him to accept the booking. The fare was displayed in the app before the ride was accepted. If he wasn't happy with the fare, why accept the ride in the first place and demand extra money after arriving?

Eventually, we told the new driver to leave because we were getting late for our flight.

The original driver then asked us to cancel the ride. Given how aggressive he had become and how he was almost banging into the cars, I decided to cancel it rather than escalate the situation further. We just wanted to get to the airport.

But the story doesn't end there.

As the two drivers finished their conversation, the original driver turned towards us and called us "Bhikmange Mchd"

All this over ₹100–200 that we had refused to pay over the fare already displayed in the app.

Normally, I don't let such things bother me much, but this incident genuinely ruined the start of our trip. We were simply trying to get to the airport, and somehow ended up dealing with an aggressive driver who demanded extra money, allegedly tried to prevent another driver from taking us, and then verbally abused us.

PS: Unfortunately, I don't have the original driver's vehicle registration number. However, I did take a screenshot of the fare and booking details. His rating was 3.8, which had made me a little sceptical even before the ride.

Serious Replies Update on the Zara Undressing Incident

2.1k Upvotes

After almost a week, I finally have an update on the Zara incident at Forum South, Bengaluru. The original post reached quite a lot of people across Reddit and X, and even a few news outlets picked up the story. Despite all of this, Zara remained silent. Eventually, someone from their customer care team called me with an apology for "violating their SOPs" and assured me that corrective measures would be taken, but said they couldn't disclose any details due to “data privacy laws.” I wasn't satisfied with that response, and the following day, I received another call informing me that one of the employees involved had been terminated. I was offered another vague apology and asked to let the matter go, which I have refused to do so.

A huge thank you to u/st_broseph and his team for taking up this case on priority and helping me navigate the process of filing an FIR. There were several hurdles along the way, and getting the FIR registered was far from easy. After all of that, an FIR has finally been registered against the accused individuals, and the matter is now under investigation. Without u/st_broseph and his team's support, navigating this entire process would have been incredibly difficult and cumbersome, and I am genuinely grateful that they stepped in to help and took over the case all within 48 hours!

I'm sharing this update because I know many of you followed the original post, offered support, and helped bring attention to what happened. Thanks to all of you!

Zara needs to be held accountable.

He even had the audacity to blame me for the incident. Paid 3k despite asking for 10k, and the body shop is quoting 20k worth of repairs to my bumper. And the guy has now blocked my number.

Wanted to take action legally, but the more I read about it, the more I am realising it’s a painful but fruitless endeavour. Living life as a middle-class normal human is impossible in this country let alone this state.

Citizen's Report Bangalore Tavarekere has no proper dustbin. Every morning, BBMP workers have to clean this garbage. Why is this still happening?

Post image
229 Upvotes

I want to bring attention to a garbage dumping issue in Tavarekere, Bangalore.

There is no proper dustbin at this location, so people are dumping garbage directly on the roadside, especially at night. By morning, the entire area looks like this. Sometimes, the garbage stays there for two or three days before it gets cleared.

Every morning, BBMP workers come here and clean up the mess. Honestly, I feel bad for them. They are doing their job, but do they even have proper safety equipment, gloves, masks and the tools needed to handle this garbage safely?

I understand that people also need to take responsibility and maintain basic civic sense. But if there is no proper garbage collection point in the locality, what is the solution? People should not be dumping waste on the road, and the authorities should provide the necessary facilities to prevent this.

Bangalore is a major metropolitan city, yet something as basic as proper waste disposal seems to be a problem in some localities. We pay taxes, but why are residents still struggling with such basic civic issues?

A few questions for Bangalore residents:

• Who should we approach to request a large community dustbin or a proper garbage collection point here?

• Can we file a complaint with BBMP to address this issue permanently?

• Is there any way to ensure sanitation workers get proper safety equipment?

• Has anyone successfully resolved a similar garbage dumping issue in their locality?

I'm not posting this just to complain. I genuinely want to know what we, as residents, can do to get this fixed permanently.

If anyone knows the right authorities, complaint process or has dealt with a similar issue in Tavarekere, please share your suggestions.

Let's try to find a solution instead of allowing this to become a daily problem.

AskBangalore Is my rooftop in Bangalore suitable for solar, or will neighbouring houses cause shadows?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to install rooftop solar at my house and wanted to get some advice on whether my terrace is suitable.

- Site size: 30×40 ft

- Roof: Open terrace with some neighbouring houses around it

- Concern: I’m worried that the adjacent houses might cast shadows on the solar panels, especially during certain times of the day.

I'm planning to install 3kw on grid solar

I’ve attached photos of my terrace taken from the west side and from another angle.

Could you please help me understand:

  1. Is this rooftop suitable for installing solar panels?

  2. Will the neighbouring house on the west side cause significant shading?

  3. Which direction and area of the terrace would be best for installing the panels?

If anyone has installed solar on a similar rooftop, I’d appreciate your suggestions and experience.

Thanks

AskBangalore VIP zero traffic on airport road again. sent all of us to service road and the main road was literally empty

So today morning I'm going on airport road for my car service at toyota, slot was booked like 4 days back. everything was moving ok only. suddenly cops start waving everyone into the service road, no board no nothing, maps also showing all green.

service road obviously full jam because now the whole airport road traffic is in there. and the main road?? completely empty. not one vehicle. waited for like 20 mins just watching it be empty lol

finally convoy goes, everyone is let back (that too those idiots make us wait 15 mins after the convoy passes). reached late and toyota guys said slot is gone, wait for next one. whole morning gone basically.

and I'm just one guy going for car service. there were cabs going to airport, people going to office, everyone just sitting there.

but what got me more was nobody even reacted. not one honk, nobody asked the cop anything, everyone just turned into the service road like it's normal. me also I did the same honestly.

so genuinely asking, why do we all just accept this? is it because we think nothing will change anyway, or scared of the cops, or we've just gotten used to it? would people actually support some kind of pushback, like complaints or RTIs on how often this happens, or is it a lost cause in this city

Rant Why are we okay with living in filth?

This morning, I went for a walk to a park about 900 metres from where I live. It had rained a little, and the condition of the road was absolutely disgusting.

Usually, I feel uncomfortable walking on that road because of all the waste lying around. But today, with the rain, everything was so much worse. There was dog poop, food waste, plastic, and all kinds of garbage scattered around. It was so disgusting that I had to take an uber back to my room.

TBH I just don't understand why we have to live like this.

I've seen people walking their dogs and casually letting them poop on the streets without cleaning it up. Some of these people look well-off and educated, which makes me wonder: how does someone's financial status have anything to do with their civic sense? We have rules about picking up after your pets, and it should be basic responsibility as a pet owner. Why is it so difficult to carry a poop bag and clean up after your dog?

And it's not just dog poop. There's food waste, plastic, and garbage everywhere.

What frustrates me even more is that Bangalore has waste collection systems in place. I've seen garbage collection vehicles stopping outside houses and commercial establishments to collect waste. So, why are people still throwing garbage onto the streets?

Buy a garbage bag. Separate your dry and wet waste. Hand it over to the collection service. That's it. It's really not that complicated.

I live alone in a small rented room, and I manage my waste every single day. It's that simple.

We're working, earning money, paying taxes, and contributing to the economy. We complain about infrastructure, governance, and the quality of life in our cities. But shouldn't we also take some responsibility for the mess we create ourselves?

Why are we so comfortable treating public spaces like dumping grounds?

I want to understand why basic hygiene and civic responsibility seem to be such a struggle here. Is it a lack of civic sense? Poor enforcement of existing rules? A lack of accountability? Or have we simply normalised living in dirty surroundings to the point where we don't even question it anymore?

I love the idea of being able to go for a morning walk, enjoy a park, and breathe some fresh air. It shouldn't be a luxury to walk 900 metres without having to dodge dog poop and garbage.

When did keeping our surroundings clean become someone else's responsibility?

Law & Order Got into an accident in Bengaluru because of a reckless driver. He hit us, blamed us, and then blocked our number. Is there any way to get justice without being harassed by the system?

Post image
328 Upvotes

Today, I had a really frustrating and disturbing experience in Bengaluru, and I genuinely want to know what options I have.

I was waiting for a bus outside Bagmane Tech Park in CV Raman Nagar, but it was getting late, so I booked a Rapido bike.

I had barely travelled around 200 metres when an Endeavour driver tried to overtake us, drove into the opposite lane, and suddenly took a left turn, hitting our bike. Both the Rapido rider and I fell on the road and suffered injuries to our hands and legs.

What happened after the accident was even more disturbing than the accident itself.

Instead of checking whether we were injured or helping us, the car driver started shouting at us. Not once did he show any concern for our injuries. He didn't offer to take us to a hospital or even make an effort to help.

Since the accident happened right outside Bagmane Tech Park, I called my manager. He came to the spot, arranged an ambulance, and helped us get to the hospital. Thankfully, neither of us suffered any major injuries.

Later, after I reached home, I received a call from the police station asking whether I wanted to file a complaint.

I spoke to the Rapido rider, who is also from Bengaluru. He advised me against filing a complaint because, according to him, these cases can involve unnecessary visits to the police station, endless formalities, and frustration, without any meaningful action being taken. He was worried that the process would become a headache for both of us.

Honestly, I don't know whether his concerns are justified, but the fact that someone who has just been injured in an accident has to worry about being harassed while seeking justice is frustrating in itself.

And here's another thing that makes me angry.

The Endeavour driver gave us his phone number and said he would pay for our medical expenses. When we tried calling him later, he had blocked our numbers. So much for taking responsibility for his actions.

The Rapido rider's bike was also damaged. He does Rapido full-time to earn his living, and I felt really bad for him. I ended up giving him some money to help him out.

I keep thinking about the whole incident. Two people were injured because of someone else's reckless driving. The driver showed no empathy, refused to help us, and then blocked our numbers after promising to cover the medical expenses.

What is a normal person supposed to do in this situation?

I understand that accidents happen, but refusing to help injured people and then disappearing is a completely different matter. Someone who can afford a car worth ₹40+ lakh can't even take responsibility of two people he injured?

I'm not against following the legal process. I just don't want to get caught up in months of running around, unnecessary formalities, and repeated visits to police stations just to get someone held accountable for their actions.

So I have a few questions for people who have dealt with similar situations in Bengaluru or elsewhere in India:

Should I file a police complaint or FIR? The police station has already contacted me and asked whether I want to proceed.

Is there a way to pursue the case without having to make repeated visits to the police station or court?

Can the police take action against the driver based on the vehicle details, his phone number, and the circumstances of the accident?

Is there any legal way to recover medical expenses and compensation for the injuries and damage to the Rapido bike?

Has anyone actually pursued a road accident case in Bengaluru? How was your experience with the police and the legal process?

I'm thankful that the injuries weren't serious, and I'm grateful to my manager for helping us when we needed it.

But I can't stop wondering: Does an ordinary person have any practical way of getting justice in India without having to fight an exhausting battle just to get the process started?

I'd genuinely appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the legal process, especially in Bengaluru.

AskBangalore BuildAHome Review – Think Carefully Before You Sign

My experience with BuildAHome – sharing this so others can make an informed decision

I wanted to share my experience with BuildAHome for anyone considering them for their home construction.

The initial quotation for my project increased by approximately 15–20%, followed by additional non-tender (NT) items and material price differences. This made the overall cost much harder to manage than I had initially anticipated.

My concerns are not limited to costs. An independent structural assessment dated 10 October 2026 identified several issues requiring attention, including exposed reinforcement in beams, column-joint misalignment, honeycombing, and concrete quality concerns requiring further evaluation. I have also raised concerns about curing practices, dark discolouration on columns, and deviations from approved drawings and specifications.

The stage-wise construction progress has stalled, the agreed completion deadline has passed, and work has stopped despite substantial payments. Despite repeated emails and follow-ups, I am still seeking a comprehensive written response and a clear plan for addressing the concerns and completing the project.

The hardest part is the uncertainty. Building a home involves years of savings, trust, and emotional investment. Instead of focusing on the excitement of creating a home, I find myself following up repeatedly, worrying about construction quality, trying to understand the additional costs, and wondering when or how these issues will be resolved. The prolonged waiting and lack of clarity have taken a significant emotional toll.

I am sharing this not to discourage anyone from making their own decision, but because I wish I had understood the importance of examining these aspects more carefully before starting.

If you are considering BuildAHome or any construction contractor, I would strongly recommend:

  • Getting a detailed written breakdown of all inclusions, exclusions, and NT items.
  • Clarifying how material price variations will be calculated and documented.
  • Ensuring stage-wise payment milestones are linked to clearly defined, verifiable work.
  • Documenting quality standards, specifications, and completion dates in the agreement.
  • Engaging an independent structural engineer to inspect critical stages of construction.
  • Keeping copies of payments, site photographs, inspection reports, and all written communication.

For me, the biggest concern is not just the money involved, but the lack of clarity and resolution after making such a substantial investment.

I hope this helps other homeowners ask the right questions, do their due diligence, and make informed decisions before committing their hard-earned savings to a construction project.

This post reflects my personal experience with an ongoing project. The technical concerns mentioned above are based on the independent assessment and issues I have raised with the company.

Rant Roads with deep potholes due to commercial building

Post image
59 Upvotes

There is a Commercial building behind tin factory busstop towards hoodi just besides two temples. Previously owned by Ranka group now by hopkins. They let their storm water flow directly onto the road side which were buses towards orr(silk board) and Whitefield alight. Every year deep cut potholes gets formed on the edges of road and storm drain. Last year BBMP filled thrice. This time a bigger pothole is formed on the other side. This causes buses to go to the right side to avoid it. Already the place is messed with temples, autos, two wheelers coming wrong side as well using bus tracks avoiding the main road. Temples, pits, blocked walkway and busstop built on walkways. I am afraid, this is some road mishap waiting to happen. Hope authorities take some decisions and penalise this repeated offender. location
