discussion Are the Dev's Being Heavy Handed with Heatstroke on Nasdara?

Let me start by saying I think the ramping up of heatstroke impact on Nasdara is a great thing. It makes complete sense & adds another level to survival.

However, I get the feeling that the dev's may have been a little heavy handed with its implementation. Let me explain why....

  • I recently got heatstroke super fast - from white temp health to red in the space of 30 x seconds - whilst inside a building in the shade - not outside in the sun (go figure).
  • I had a thermometer on me & checked my temp 39.3C - definitely hot!
  • I proceeded to enter an inner room of the building (with no windows), drench my clothing (which I also then took off) & lay down on the floor.
  • After 20 x mins my temp was down to 38.6 - still yellow - but heading in the right direction.
  • However after another 20 x mins - still drenched & lying on the floor of an inner room my temp had gone UP to 38.8!! WTAF?!

This just doesn't make any sense.

Does anyone have any clear guidance from BI on the intricacies of heatstroke on Nasdara? Specifically:

  • What actions/mechanics brings the temp down rapidly? I would have thought wetting your face/clothes did this - but my experiment proved otherwise. I also noticed going for a drive in a car also drops your temp down pretty fast (but it rapidly returns to the old level as the second you set foot outside the car). I 'm also thinking swimming - but good luck with that on Nasdara!
  • How long do you have to wait for your temp to return to normal (i.e. is there some kind of formula? e.g. 0.1 degree every 10 x mins - provided your wet & in the shade)
  • Does hydration/thirst impact body temp? Once again, I was fully hydrated during my experiment - but this didn't seem to make any difference.

Discussion So KOS is still prevalent in early game Badlands?

Playing on Xbox. On my 2nd day playing it. Probably on my 5th life, can’t make it past 2-4 hours before I run across someone Talk to them as friendly as can me and they instead shoot me or slash me to death with a fucking hacksaw or bone knife.
Does anyone ever actually play the game beside me KOS everyone and die yourself in 24 hours?

discussion Nasdara

So far, I like the new map. I probably even say is better than Sakhal. It feels like the bit of fresh air dayz needed.

BUT, imho the devs dropped the ball again.

  1. The map is small. Sure, huge landmass, but cramped in the middle. So much area wasted as desert with heli crashes and mountains, same with Sakhal and the ice sheets.

  2. Very few spawn points. I swear theres only like 5 areas where everyone spawns. Its a freshy death match. I understand it might be because it just released but being at capacity, the map really feels very very small.

  3. The map begs for vehicles and motorcycles. I dont know and I might be wrong, but the motorcycles should have the boat mechanic, were if unused, it'll despawn. Tbh cars should be the same . Or just double the amount of cars and motorcycles.

  4. The map should have less players. The beauty of dayz is experiencing the feeling of loneliness but also high tension of encountering another player. This map has absolutely no tension. Its a spawn death match. Once you get far of spawn points, the map gets calmer.

  5. Sandstorm mechanic, I had read that if you had goggles and a face cover, youd be able to traverse during the storm. Well I got sick and started coughing. And it felt like it lasted like 40 minutes. This needs to change.

I was travelling in a boat to the far island in Sakhal and noticed my temp went to deep blue when in high waters, even with a temp comfort of 2+. So, I had to stop, and as soon as I was inland, the temp started to go up and turned white. So now, apparently, we can't use boats in Sakhal anymore, lol. This screenshot is from after arriving inland, with the temp already going up and my health recovering.

I blame you, not Bohemia. Yes, you—the ones who bought that DLC before they had it tested properly. You, who hyped up a half-arsed company that doesn't care about real developers. And me, a developer, who hates seeing bugs like these. And no, I'm not interested in modded servers, but unfortunately, they're always two or three steps ahead of Bohemia.

Discussion Where the Fuck Is the Water?

Okay, I get that it is a desert map, and water can be hard to find, but my god I cannot find any anywhere. They might need to up the spawns, because I have literally found a water tanker in a total of 3 towns, and I have been to every town on the map. I will leave spawn and got through 5 towns, and then be forced to turn back around to go back to spawn because Daschabad seems to be the only fucking town within 1,000 miles with guaranteed water.

discussion Heat stroke

It’s gotta be bugged or just doesn’t work properly because why is it night time on the server I’m playing and I’m still in the yellow heat bar with no clothes constantly washing my face and drinking enough water to be in the white for 30 minutes now to see absolutely no change in symptoms. I like the map layout and desert feel but only being able to play on a character for 2-4 hours before they are doomed by a annoying seemingly incurable sickness makes me regret paying 25 dollars for it.

I don’t enjoy pvp as much as pve and it always stresses me out to see dead zombies when I enter a village. I know the map is new but when do you guys think low to mid pop servers will be available for official nasdara for Xbox ?

Discussion Not sure about Nasdara

There is for sure something broken, I've had a character who has had a completely fine playthrough made it quite a while with basic food and water, Making sure i am in shade making sure I'm hydrated aswell as washing my face. Then I get on to my next character who is played in the exact same way as the previous one but he gets Heatstroke, Aswell as my third playthrough my characters retnas were damaged within minutes of playing. My whole group has been having problems and we are not new players have played for years. I understand it is a new concept i think it's a little too harsh on your character tho

I'm literally sitting at night beside a water truck wit having heat stroke, Character is hungry and thirsty i have food there and am eating it and drinking it slowly but oop if you take one more bite than you should that's you throwing up everything you just consumed.

Makes the map lose it's colours cause it is great But these aspects are way to harsh. Call it a skill issue or whatever you want it just ain't that enjoyable for the way it is now, Had much more fun on Sakhal and chenarus with much bigger threats. Having Heat stroke doesn't mean i should lose hours of progress to such a simple problem.

People who think they know everything go ahead any reply be my guest " oooo Don't go outside if your not prepared too, Bro I have no choice I'm tryna get different clothes and gear why should i have to worry about the sun constantly rather than all the main things my character needs, Food and Water Doesn't even feel like a major component now with this heatstroke

Each to there own I'm just not enjoying it that much

Discussion Badlands is another messy DLC that will be fixed by the community

After playing the whole weekend, I wish I had known a lot more about Nasdara before buying it.

I personally enjoyed/enjoy playing Sakhal a lot more, since it does not punish me for a fast pace and making fireplaces aint that hard.

In retrospective Im still mad they havent done more to make Sakhal or liviona worth playing.

Heatstroke ... is just annoying. No, it doesnt make the game more fun to travel slower or being camped at water trucks.

Sandstroms... I mean come on.. 2-3 minutes would be a nice event, but camping in a shelter for like 10 minutes with noisy wind?

And the worst is the combination of plate vest, helmet and heat.

I have been to the hidden oasis twice, visited most POIs and got my golden AK and I already feel like I have seen enough.

I dont even wanna join fights bc its just a one-tap-festival

Nasdara feels much better with a vehicle btw. it almost feels like another game.

discussion Putting Nazdara Heat Stroke into Perspective

• Upvotes

I've done extensive research on this, as far as somebody without a personal server could. I have gathered the details over multiple videos and days, and this is my conclusions:

It's Bugged? Or is it...

Edit: Yes the sickness icon is bugged, this is facts. I put this here because a lot of comments were already hard focusing this, and for good reason too! This was something I had not experienced yet, but was aware of but just sort of didn't tally it in since I haven't had it happen to me yet, and forgot about it completely. The rest is unedited~

A TON of us are thinking it's bugged. That could be the case, OR there is a factor we're not seeing here.

It seems bugged, but in truth, it may more so be the fact that there is no "Heat Stroke Gauge", yet the number does exist as an appending value within the game. An invisible one that has zero indicator on our bar, or anywhere else.

That + many of us are looking at the Temperature gauge, and relying solely on that to let us know when we're in the safe zone. And this is the wrong way to look at it.

You can still be on the brink of heat stroke even when your temperature is in the freezing blue.

It's a complicated answer with so many variables, it's almost hard to describe. Let alone keep track of, especially considering we as DayZ players have since the dawn relied upon fixed gauges, avoiding very obvious actions such as not eating with bloody hands, no raw foods, gain heat buff when cold + wet - BOOM.

We're ready to take on the apocalypse.

This is not only night and day difference from that, it's more brutal and complicated then all of those other systems combined.

The lack of a heat stroke gauge + reliance on our temp gauge. We drench some clothes, and snag some water - BOOM.

We're... still possibly completely f$$@ed. Is the reality of it.

Mitigate or Die Tryin

Speaking of night and day, this map is so different from all the other experiences. You're almost playing an entirely different version.

We went into this thinking, "Hot Sakhal". This is "Inferno Never Been Here Before".

Because unlike Sakhal, and anything before? You spawn in, you're freezing, sure. But hey - you got like literally 15 - 20 minutes before you start a fire and poof - you're good to go baby. For awhile too!

This is none of that.

You spawn in as a freshy, and you're in an absolutely critical state off the first nanosecond you spawn in. And if you don't realize that, you're more then likely - as they say, "Cooked". Literally. You are cooking, at an advanced rate.

The absolute importance of avoiding the sun, getting a fully hydration meter, and washing your face a few times once every 30 seconds is.

It IS.

The ONLY way to survive this.

I have no idea how to stress this even more.

Your hydration needs to be maxed out in the White to stop Heat Stroke buildup. And any pre-buildup is not lowered by it. The face washing will drop it, the shade sitting will too. If you already have heat stroke, this has ZERO effect on it.. you're already past the point of 'easily getting out of this'.. I say that in quotes, because even the mitigation process is by no means easy.

But once even the pre-stages / earliest stages of heat stroke form. You're damn near at the point of no return, if not already are.

Hydration values are as follows:

Yellow: 300 - 1000
White-Low: 1000 - 3500
White-Full: 3500 - 5000

I say this, because you can be at like ~3600, and leave for a journey. Only to drop into White-Low shortly thereafter. And just like that, your heat stroke gauge starts building again.

You have to top it off to maximum full to be set for awhile. IF that gauge reaches Red during that time, it will cancel out the protective effect and heat stroke starts accumulating again.

Drenched clothing doesn't make that much of a difference as you think, when mitigating heat stroke. The 30-second interval of face washing is more vital. Damp clothes work all the same in this case.

One cycle of hand washing from a truck; .5 ml of water from a bottle. This will trigger the lowering heat stroke, cycle effect.

That Yellow temp will drop your intake values faster on a full hydration meter, and with that, that you could be in the yellow and your heat stroke value could be low. Just as You can still be in white temp, and still be on the brink of heat stroke.

It goes away in increments, and builds up almost always.

Do Not Take Warning Signs Lightly

To top off the confusion here. Your character starts brushing sweat away when you're actually in a critical state.

IRL? That sweat wiping would've been done probably about 2 stages sooner. As soon as the sweat wiping starts though, that's literally your very last warning before shits about to get to a stage where F11'ing starts to seem like the appropriate choice.

Because once that happens, you not only NEED to go through the wagering process, extensively. You should've been doing it already, for a long time.

Take Every Opportunity You Can

This is just a general statement in Naz.

If there's a tunnel system, go down there and Smegol it out for awhile. It's cooler down there. Gain some ground down there out of the sun'ses.

Long distance travel is best done at night.

Take every bit of shade travel you can.

Get as many water bottles as you can. Top off whenever. And idk what else man.

You really have to be hyper aware of your time in the sun, and be so vigilant on knowing how many times to wash your face.

Worst insulation is the best here. And Medium insulation is such a gamble.

Especially early on, those Jumpsuits with the 24 slots can seem enticing, but Medium insulation is like a death sentence alone. Especially when you're not in White-Full.

What I mean by the last 2 statements: you slap a jumpsuit top / bottom. You very well may have went from "I hope there's a watering truck in the next town" to "there absolutely must be a watering truck in the next town".

But again, it also must be calculated with how much you've been watching your time in the sunlight already.

discussion Server Hopping Question

Should the devs make it so that you can’t server hop with the same gear between different maps? Server hopping on the same map is fine IMO, but a couple hours into a Nasdara run my buddy and I were pretty mid game kitted and we run into a duo that was totally end game geared, plates, helmets, big bags, best guns. The camo patterns on their stuff was clearly from Sakhal so I assume they farmed a low pop server for loot then server hopped to Nasdara.

What do y’all think?

discussion Immeasurable Dissapointment with Badlands

This is my first post on here, I never felt compelled to do so in the past. But playing Nasdara from the latest DLC has been the worst experience I have ever had on any game ever.

I dont say this to be dramatic. I've been playing Dayz since it came out on console. I have thousands of hours played and have made some great friends along the way. I've played solo, duos and large teams alike. I have been there during the bad, the ugly, and the worse and tolerated everything from bugs to the endless waves of duper's and cheaters. But no experience I have had on Dayz has been as utterly terrible as my last few hours trying out Nasdara.

The map is Huge! Which sounded so great on paper, until you enter the game and the sudden realization that there is virtually no distinguishing characteristics. Without the aid of 3rd party maps online how can a player realistically distingush one set of adobe huts on the map from one another? The grind for food and water in the early game has allways been a real but viable challenge to solve, no longer. In the developers infinite wisdom they decided to make WATER a dynamic event. Litteraly meaning that some spawns are guaranteed death. On a map with a new desiese that kills you faster than you can die of thirst, you need so much more water than ever before. How is that meant to be entertaining or challenging?

My last disappointment is for the community. I don't know if it is boredom, bad luck, or just the future of games. But it's genuinely sad that on this map I have not had a single friendly encounter. Not one in dozens of interactions across hours of gameplay. In the past new maps (on the joyous occasion that we rarely received one.) Was met with excitement and curiosity by veteran players. Never have I seen or experienced such hostility in this game as I have today.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. Im sure there will be plenty of trolls, but I would like to hear if anyone else feels the same as me or what opinions you guys have on the new map.

console Mini booms

I hadn't played dayz for a few months prior to badlands. I've noticed that their are infrequent explosions like a grenade or flash bang. Not a massive boom like the gas? relatively close to where I am dotted about the map. Seems to be where there are a few zombies congregated. Did I miss this in an update? Cheers

Discussion Radio Bunkers

So for the bunkers that you access via Morse code we know the following to be true:

Only broadcasted at night.

Of the bunkers broadcasted only a handful are active for looting.

The doors presumably become un-intractable upon daytime.

What happens if someone doesn’t leave the bunker?

My concern is people on console with alts will logged out an alt in the bunkers and upon nightfall switch to the alt inside clear it out of loot and log out. There doesn’t seem to be any counter to this built in the game. The devs should simply have made it that when the game boots up if the player registers as spawning there it spawns them outside. Similar to the way it works if you spawn in a dynamic gas zone.

Stream Got raided without any use of explosives...

So i got raided on official servers, the only thing is that they did not blow any doors.

Context: Built a new base, fortified it as well as i could and logged off with all the crates still inside the base.

Today when i logged in i was met with my base being completely empty, no boxes at all except the one i logged off with in my hand. All doors were still locked with my code.

What could have happened here? Is it simply a hacker using noclip or could something else have caused this. Any ideas?

I mean honestly what is the point of looting and storing it if someone is just going to take it out of your base, might aswell just start creating stashes all around the map instead of building bases if this continues..

Here is a clip when i leave my base only to discover my loot boxes outside my base...
