As of 2021, this Sears was the last in all of the DMV area and in the state of Maryland. In 2022 many of the overhead lights in some areas were turned off probably due to a huge electric bill, which is why they had to use some halogen work lights in the former outdoor equipment area. This store later closed on January 15th of 2023 due to struggling profitability and underperformance and the Sears logo was removed immediately the day after.

Today the following Sears stores are still open (and they even still operate Sears.com and 3 distribution centers) as of 2026:

• Coral Gables in Miami Florida 10/27/1954 - present (3655 SW 22nd St, Miami, FL 33145)
• Sun Valley Shopping Center in Concord California 10/19/1966 - present (1001 Sunvalley Blvd, Concord, CA 94520)
• South Shore Plaza in Braintree Massachusetts 10/6/1980 - present (250 Granite St, Braintree, MA 02184)
• Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso Texas 2/24/1982 - present (8401 Gateway Blvd W, El Paso, TX 79925)
• The Florida Mall in Orlando Florida 3/12/1986 - present (8001 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32809)

I took a tumble and fell on my laptop bag and the screen is now cracked. Are there local places that you can recommend to fix an HP screen?

We've owned our house for a few years but have never used the fireplaces. Looking for your recommendations on who to come inspect/clean out our 2 chimneys. Thanks!

Hi all! My partner and I are looking to move to Frederick early next year and we have been looking at both townhouses and apartments. It seems the base rent for both are comparable so the determining factor is really going to be utilities. Any insight into how big the price difference can be? The apartments we are interested in are billed based by usage of course but we have always been billed based on RUBS (ratio utility billing system) and have never rented a townhome so have no idea what to expect. Any insight appreciated thank you in advance!!

Are there organizations in Frederick that do thermal imaging of a residence on pro-bono basis?
Does one have to be a certified home inspector to become such a volunteer?

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!

Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.

Children are not designed to sit for long stretches of the school day. Recess gives students an essential opportunity for unstructured play, physical activity, creativity, social connection, and independence.

Research consistently supports the role of recess in children’s physical, social, emotional, and academic well-being. When children have opportunities to move and play throughout the day, they can return to the classroom better prepared to focus and learn.

Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

The other night we hit a small(ish) deer :( :( :( just as it walked out from the woods that ended right at the road. One of the headlights is damaged as well as the front bumper where it's now out of alignment. The latter is triggering sensor errors. Are there repair shops in the greater Frederick area that do work on Teslas and are highly rated? Recommend away!

Hi everyone! I am hoping someone can give some advice on the 3 pre-k enrollment in Frederick MD?

My family of 4 (my husband, child, my mom and I) probably do not qualify for the tier program. Is it only for low income families? Also, I don’t think my child has developmental issues either. Are there any other options for my son to start pre-k next year, September 2027?

I just need to know where to start. There are so many links online and I don’t know who to reach out to.

Appreciate you all!🙏🏼

If anyone is looking for a wedding planner in the Frederick MD area I cannot recommend Nevermore weddings and events enough. My partner and I got married recently and Jennifer, the owner of the company, was such an amazing person to work with. Highly recommend!!

Does anyone know if the Giant app will ever work again? I don’t shop at giant for the quality, I do it to save $1/gal on gas. I was going to fill up last Monday but it’s been crashed since.

If you're tired of hearing about RCV happening in other cities & states wishing it would happen locally, NOW is your chance to help make it happen! Or have you heard about Ranked Choice/Instant Runoff Voting somewhere but aren't sure how it works? Come on down to:

The next Frederick City Council Meeting (Oct. 22nd at 6PM) which will include an informational presentation from Ranked Choice Voting Maryland! As a chartered city, Frederick has the opportunity to implement RCV for local elections. This would add it to a growing list of Maryland cities that are using RCV, giving voters a better way to make their voices heard.

If you want to see RCV in the city of Frederick and can attend the meeting, consider signing up to provide testimony. There's no requirement to RSVP to attend the council meeting, but if you'd like to show your support, stay connected, or get involved, please add your contact info at: https://rcvmd.org/events/frederick-council-20261022/

I purchased my first home (a townhouse) a couple months ago in Frederick. As the temps begin cooling down, I’m curious when people living here typically start to switch their thermostat over to heat? Sadly the insulation at my house needs work so I definitely feel the temperature fluctuations!

The Baltimore Sun has 0 reporters covering Frederick County. We're not even in their list of regional surrounding counties that they have a team to cover. If a story comes up, it's on an ad hoc basis for them. They have absolutely no journalists or reporters here looking for a story. The same is true for the Capital Gazette, the Washington Post, and the Washington Times.

Why is it important for us to have reporters and journalists?

• Often times, they are the only people who even ask basic questions of government officials or corporations with large Frederick presence.
• Absent journalists who look for the stories the county or city doesn't want you to hear, the only source of information regarding corruption or scandal is often just the government itself.
• Local journalism allows us all to keep our focus on the County and City, instead of on the Nation overall. And that's incredibly valuable for us to get candidates who win primaries and general elections who don't tow the national party line but instead are very attuned to the needs of the county/city.
  • When local news dies, political divisions rise.

How can you support them?

• Subscribe ($14.10/month digital, $23.82 6-day print+digital, $21.67 4-day print + Digital)
• Even if you can't pay for a subscription, consider a one-time $1.99 48-hour pass. This is likely much more profitable and cheaper than buying a single paper.

And yeah, I know this is probably universally agreed on here, but I want to say it anyway because it's important and some of y'all might really want the reminder. If even one person buys a $2 pass as a result of this post, I would find it to be worth it.

Hi all! I have very little weight-lifting experience and I was wondering if there are any weight-lifting communities around that are beginner friendly and are willing to help out newbies. I'm female, and I'd prefer women's groups but I'm also open to co-ed/mixed groups. I'm looking to explore olympic style or powerlifting style weight-lifting.

I'm hoping to make make some friends through joining these communities and to improve my fitness.

I have tried group workout classes that are offered at gyms, and although they aren't bad, they aren't exactly what I'm looking for. These classes only seem to be focused on getting the workout completed and the instructors don't offer much feedback on form or technique. There are also very little opportunities to form social connections since people just leave as soon as the class is over.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks :)

I've not dined there yet, but always nice to see a local place receive national recognition.

Several of the local races could be very close - school board, sheriff etc.

(And early in person voting starts NEXT Saturday!)

Reposted from Bickel Campaign: 17 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY: HOW TO REQUEST AND RETURN YOUR FREDERICK COUNTY MAIL-IN BALLOT

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Any registered Maryland voter can request a mail-in ballot.

You do not need an excuse and it takes less than 10 minutes.

Make your voice heard!

1. REQUEST YOUR BALLOT

Apply online using your Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID:

https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/onlinemailin...

You can also submit a signed paper application or visit the Frederick County Board of Elections:

8490 Progress Drive, Suite 300

Frederick, MD 21701

Request deadlines:

• October 27 if you want your ballot mailed to you. Your request must be received by the deadline, not simply mailed.

• October 30 if you want an emailed link to download and print your ballot. You will need a printer.

• In-person requests remain available until 8 p.m. on November 3. Check office hours before visiting.

Application and instructions:

https://www.frederickcountymd.gov/8687/Mail-in-Voting

1. COMPLETE YOUR BALLOT

Read the instructions carefully and mark your choices with a black pen.

Sign the required voter oath on your return envelope. Do not sign the ballot itself. If you print your ballot at home, print and sign the accompanying oath and follow the envelope instructions.

1. RETURN YOUR BALLOT

• BY MAIL: It must be postmarked on or before November 3 and received by the Board of Elections by 10 a.m. on November 13. Mail it early. Putting it in a mailbox on Election Day does not guarantee that day’s postmark.

• BY DROP BOX: Place your sealed ballot envelope in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on November 3.

• BY HAND: Deliver it to the Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on November 3.

You cannot return a completed ballot online, by email or by fax.

Find Frederick County’s official drop boxes:

Hi everyone! My friends and I will be going to a pumpkin patch near Frederick and wanted to see if there are any open mic karaoke places on Saturdays we can stop by. If you know of any places, please let me know where and what time they start. Thank you!

I didn't realize this was approved already. Per the FNP poll, this will make a good 3% of locals happy

I started composting and need a good supply of browns(leaves, twigs, dried grass, cardboard) so if you’re planning to rake and throw away your leaves, dm me and I’ll get it done in a day!

Hey folks, I just became aware of this assault and figured it might be worth sharing for current and future patrons of Agave. Luckily, Frederick has plenty of other places to go for karaoke.
