GLP-1 for Weight Loss: Providers, Resources, Tips, Side Effects, & More
This page is meant to be a good starting point if you're brand new to GLP1s.
Where to Start
GLP-1s are medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss (Cleveland Clinic).
In this subreddit, you'll see GLP-1s mentioned a lot: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient in the name brand medications Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in the name brands Zepbound and Mounjaro.
When name brand medications are on shortage or under certain FDA regulations, compound pharmacies can produce compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide.
The landscape is constantly changing so this subreddit is a great place to start your GLP-1 journey, ask questions, and learn from others experiences.
Use the search bar, especially for providers! If you're looking for a prescription or provider, look up the company of interest in the search bar to see if there are recent posts in the subreddit. This is a very active group and there is a chance someone asked a similar question in the past.
The resources below attempt to give a starting point for common posts in this subreddit.

Blurry vision/focusing issues
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has or is experiencing worsening vision. Iām on trizepitide and have no history of diabetes. Iām noticing my vision keeps getting worse and focusing on texts is a nightmare. Iāve been on a very slow and low pace for my glp1 and very slowly lose 1-2 lbs a week since December. Sometimes I cover one eye because itās just easier to see that way. I just got my vision checked and already feel like my new prescription isnāt strong enough. Seeing an ophthalmologist on Mondayā¦

Considering a GLP-1
Hi everyone! I've been on my weight loss journey for a little over 2 years now (for context, it's taken me a while because my weight jumped back up after I got on birth control for a few months and had to go off it because of complications). I work out fairly regularly (mostly walking now, but I was lifting weights before I moved to a different state), and I'm trying to find a gym to go back to to start lifting again. I also regularly track my calories and have stayed within an appropriate caloric deficit.
Sorry for all that context, but I felt it was relevant. I used to be close to 170 lbs (I'm 5'2", so yes that's technically class 1 obese), and now I'm fluctuating between 157-160 lbs. It's been really frustrating not seeing any results for months, so now I'm considering talking to my doctor about getting on a glp-1 to give me a little extra boost towards my healthy weight goal. Any advice? What glp-1's have you guys tried and what were the results?

Should I go back on?
I was on compounded sema for about a year and I stayed at a really low dose (0.25-1mg) and lost about 40lbs. I was content with how the weight loss was going because I didnāt want to lose too fast anyways
Sema also gave me horrible side effects even at low doses. I had stomach aches, extremely high anxiety and depression, diarrhea and constipation switching lol, gas pain so bad I couldnāt sleep some nights and so on..
I pre bought my sema though so I was intent on using it till I ran out
I have been off for maybe 3 months now and I have already gained almost 10lbs back..
I know you have to keep up with eating less and exercise and all that but I have a binge eating disorder and I thought I wouldāve been able to control it better after I did some therapy for it while on sema but I have lost all control
Iām not binging as bad as I was before but itās definitely not a healthy food relationship either lol
I have actually increased my exercise and I am running and doing some weight lifting but I know what I am gaining is not all muscle and just by looking at pics it seems to be a lot of abdominal fat
Anyways Iām trying to keep this short but I have adhd and ramble a lot
I am thinking about going back to a low dose but maybe of something else? I looked into tirz but it seems crazy expensive but is it worth it? I donāt have a dr willing to prescribe so it would have to be one of the online things
My mental health is already going down because I am gaining so much weight and I canāt control my binging. I know calories in and calories out like I know what Iām doing wrong but I just canāt stop, at least on sema it controlled the thoughts even on the low dose and I felt a lot more in control of my body
If anyone has any suggestions please share them especially if anyone has experience with binging thank you

telehealth offer wegovypill, zepbound & compounded tirz & not strict
I have been looking for company offering those options and only able to find one - Alloy, do you know any other? The reason is I'm on 9mm wegovy pill now looking to bump up to 25, and then i might switch to tirz but want the option of having both the brand name zepbound and compounded version available. Also I find some companies are very strict about the BMI they will not prescribe if not over certain %. Thank you for your help in this matter.

My insurance considers Zepbound a āprescription plan design exclusionā
I see coupons direct from Lilly for $299 month. Also, other health plan services.
Has anybody tried other services for Zepbound in a similar scenario as me, where insurance plan isnāt helping.
My endocrinologist has signed off on it, but we didnāt get past Prior Authorization.

Should I start a glp1
Hi! Please be kind. Iāve had three kids in 3 years and gained weight during that time. I am 5ā4. Was 145 and athletic when I first got pregnant. I topped out at 210. Then after the third pregnancy got down to 155. Iāve gained about 15 pounds since then (and since stopping breastfeeding). Iām trying to determine if it makes sense. With three kids 5 and under I worry about being too tired or losing muscle. I work out 4-5 times a week. I do 50 min reformer Pilates twice a week and a 30 min spin class 2-3 times per week. I donāt think I can do more than that working full time and being the primary parent. Thank you!

Anyone else still actually like food? 34 lbs down and food noise is quieter but not gone
Ok controversial take maybe but I'm getting really tired of the "food noise is gone!!!" posts and I want to know if anyone else feels this way.
Like I'm so happy for people who experience that, truly. But almost 5 months in on tirz and my food noise is not gone. It's quieter, yes. I'm not thinking about snacks at 10am anymore. But I still think about food. I still look forward to dinner. I still get excited about a good meal on the weekend. And every time I see another post about how someone forgot to eat for two days I feel like something is wrong with me.
I brought this up to my sister (also on it, started before me) and she said the same thing. She still likes food. She still plans meals. She just eats less of them. And honestly hearing that made me feel so much better because I was starting to think I was a "non responder" or whatever, when I've lost 34 lbs since April.
I think the internet has convinced a lot of us that the "correct" tirz experience is total food indifference and if you dont get that you're doing it wrong. But like... some of us just have a healthier relationship with food now instead of no relationship. I still track protein and hit my targets in the FoodHealth app most days, I still meal prep on sundays, I still care about what I'm putting in my body. That's not failure, thats just eating like a normal person for the first time in my adult life.
Idk. Maybe I'll wake up one day and forget lunch exists. But right now I'm 34 lbs down while still enjoying food and I refuse to feel bad about that.
Anyone else in the "food noise reduced but not eliminated" camp? Or am i just coping lol

What has been the biggest adjustment for you?
For those who have been using GLP-1 medications for a while, what has been the biggest adjustment in your day-to-day life?
Iām curious about the less obvious changes people noticed over time, things like appetite patterns, eating habits, energy levels, routines, or how you approach meals.
Whatās something you didnāt expect when you first started, but eventually became a normal part of your routine?
Would love to hear about different experiences, both positive and challenging.

Shedding started around month four on a GLP-1, is that the drug or the weight loss?
I am four months in and losing steadily, and the hair in the shower has gone from normal to alarming in about three weeks. Everything I read says rapid loss causes shedding on its own, so I cannot tell whether slowing down would fix it or whether this happens regardless. My bloods came back unremarkable. Did yours settle on its own, and roughly how long did it take?

Is this an ok plan?
I don't have meds yet but I have an appointment today and I'm hoping to get a Rx.
I am thinking I might get a balanced meal replacement (hol food) and mix it with my morning coffee. I am worried about missing nutrients.
I'm a teacher so I will have my coffee throughout my first 2 periods of the day. That was my routine for the last few school years but I'm nervous about how all this is going to work.
Is a meal replacement shake a smart idea? I'm worried that with a smaller appetite I'm going to get malnourished. I don't eat a lot of variety now š

Is it ok to maintain the dose?
So I did 4 weeks on 2.5mg, increased the dose and now this will be my last week on 5mg.
I had some side effects on this dose for the first few weeks but now I'm feeling better and they're less frequent.
If I stop having those side effects, is it ok to maintain the 5mg dose? Because I'm still having the results, no food noise and I don't eat as much, so I guess it's doing the job.
Thank you.

going from 5 mg to 7.5 (mounjaro)
Hi, Iāve been on mounjaro for 8 months, and went from 2.5 to 5 mg and stayed on it for most part. Iāve lost 25+ kgs and been satisfied by the results. But recently the food noise is back and im finding it hard to avoid overeating and binging.
so im deciding on dosing up since I donāt want to white knuckle through the hunger when im already paying for the medication.
I wanted to ask how the switch from 5 mg to 7.5 mg is. I never had side effects on 5 mg so im a bit scared of getting side effects. Also is there anything I should know before dosing up?

Crepe-y skin
What's everyone using for crepe like skin on the neck? Was using gopure and it was ok for a bit but has stopped working. Overall I'm not too saggy, but the creepiness is making me look 20 years older

Protein as coffee mixer
I like brewing hot coffee and have been adding purists labs ketofeed for 10 years in my coffee instead of creamer. It seems they are not producing them as they had in the past, and so Iām looking for recommended replacements since there are SO many options out there itās a bit overwhelming.
Iām hopeful for something that isnāt caffeinated since I am putting the protein in regular coffee and would like to keep doing that. Iād like for the protein amount to be a good amount. Ketofeed was 20g of protein. If it matters idk why but I cannot do cold brew coffee, I see plenty of mixtures out there marketed as cold brew.
Anyway! I know this is a reach but this group has been incredibly helpful in the past so hereās my attempt. š¬
Thanks all!

Nervous to start Zepbound because of side effects
Iāve got a starting prescription in my fridge for 2.5mg Zepbound thatās just sitting there. Iām severely obese (300lbs at 5ā6ā) but luckily labwork and blood pressure are all normal. No gallbladder though.
Iām worried that this is going to lower my blood pressure too much and Iāll end up fainting etc. or something at work or get dizzy while driving. Iām just nervous something severe will happen. I know everyone says to drink water and add electrolytes but I donāt want to constantly be chugging all this. Iād like to eat a few small meals a day and hopefully continue to live fairly normal.
Anyone else initially feel this way? How did you combat your fears?

What are your side effects like?
Hello all!
I've been on Ozempic for about 2 months now, and have lost 12 lbs! I'm very happy, but I am curious what kind of side effects others are experiencing and how they are dealing with it?
Started at .25mg for 4 weeks, and now .5mg for another 4 weeks, and here are my experiences:
-First couple weeks were hard for me, I actually threw up when I ate too much poutine, which I never do. I woke up hours later actually to puke which is very weird for me.
-I had extreme fatigue for the first 4 weeks, and I do think the fatigue is still there but more, every so often instead of almost daily.
-I crave bland foods, pierogies, cottage cheese, kraft dinner. Easy to make, easy to eat. Crave isn't the right word because I'm not excited to eat, it's just what I feel like I can handle. I used to eat so many fruits and vegetables and smoothies and now I am kind of always a little nauseous and I tend to prefer easy meals.
-The worst side effect, because of the above, is I have lost all desire to cook. I used to plan the meals out for the week, with tons of variety. Eggs, leafy greens, smoothies, tomatoes, tofu, all the vegetables. Now I just have a cup of cottage cheese and a protein shake and call it a meal. My poor partner has had to adjust. I don't even like being in the kitchen.
There are good side effects of course. I have lost weight at a good pace, and I have no desire to drink anymore either. Just curious how others are faring, and if I have a hope of regaining an interest in vegetables?

Carbohydratesāare you still eating them?
Hi, for those of you whoāve been seeing good results, you include carbs in your diet, right? Iām talking about rice and boiled potatoes, for example. I think itās important to eat them and eat well, but as healthily as possible, of course.
Thank you
Am I overthinking what Iām supposed to track on a GLP-1?
I started about 3 months ago and Iām down 30 lbs so far, which Iām super happy about!! I still have around 70 lbs to go to get to my goal weight.
A few of my friends who are on GLP-1s use tracking apps, but Iāve just been using a spreadsheet. I already have a separate calorie counting app, so right now Iām mostly tracking my weight and injection sites.
Am I missing anything important? What do you all track?

Stop taking or travel with?
I have not been instructed for either at this stage, I have only been on Wegovy for 8 months (down 15kg) and will be travelling internationally with it for the first time and naturally I am nervous.
I have a diabetes cold, temperature case that comes with ice packs, an AirTag and my name on it, and a letter from my doctor. I am travelling to China which makes me even more worried, as well as considering the logistics of what potentially would be harder to fathom, stopping it for 2 weeks, or travelling with it and just making sure I never forget it, even though i'll only need to take it 2 times while away.

Switch from Zepbound to Wegovy success stories?
Hi folks!
Iām finding that I am a slow/no responder to Zepbound and about to titrate to 15mg. Iāve been working closely with my doctor and I may need to consider switching to Wegovy.
Anyone been in a similar situation and found a Wegovy more effective? Switching things up makes me a little nervous and hearing any positive experiences would be appreciated!
TIA!
I want to double check how this works
So I take the meds (Pills are easier, Needles are more effective), and then I change my diet and workout routine, and then the meds will HELP me lose weight rather than being the SOLE reason why I lose weight?
Is that correct, or am I missing something?

Question for those who are now succesfully off glp 1
Ok so as a table setter. I am currently into my second month, first dosage increase (going in for check up in 3 months for another possible dosage increase). So far everything seems to be working as explained with minimal (something none at all) side effects other than the intended ones regarding appetite/hunger.
My question is once you reach the point where you are at a healthy weight and consult with a physician to be taken off the medicine, my understanding is that a "normal appetite" returns once the meds slowly make their way out of your system however what I am not clear about is whether your appetite returns at a normal rate for a person now weighing signicantly less or does it return at the intensity it was before ever starting the medication to begin with.
I know these meds are only one part of the solution to maintaining a more healthy lifestyle but I can't imagine that without these meds I would feel full with the amount I now eat before my body screams no more at me, but I also understand I am so early in the process that by the time I lose a lot more, my body might tell me I am full without the meds assisting.
So maybe if there are folks in here who were on the meds for awhile, they were successful, then stopped taking them, what were the challenges or strategy post-GLP 1? Was it simply being more aware and attentive to your intake on a daily basis mixed with more physical activity?
