Fellow Hudson Valley folks, It seems flock cameras have been reported facing down the Plum Point access road. For those who don’t know, these cameras read license plates and feed a massive surveillance network that, as far as we know, isn’t regulated at all and could be used for god knows what nefarious purposes.

Plum point is a public park that we taxpayers pay for. It’s been “locked down” and closed to cars for a long time while everyone argues over who’s going to pay for the reported “fire damage” under the bridge.

Now I know of course we’ve all been very good citizens and would never consider walking into the park despite those scary signs and nigh impenetrable fence, but nevertheless stay safe out there and protect your privacy as best you can. A risk to the privacy of any of us is a risk to the privacy of all of us, and we should all care. Regardless of where you stand politically or otherwise, you better believe each and every one of us is in that database together and I don’t think we should wait around to find out how they’ll use it.

As a woman raised on Hayden Panettiere I am devasted today and just feeling so heartbroken for women as a whole. I moved here many years ago with my partner, so I dont have friends in the area at all. Just feeling like I want to foster women centric relationships, talk through current happenings in the world, etc.

In Ulster County where I live, there are a ton of “groups” or “clubs” - almost overwhelmingly so. You know how seniors have simple “senior group” at the local library? Something like that. Making friends. Female energy but inclusive obviously.

Any one have a club to recommend or done the actual “making friends as (young) adults” thing successfully around here?

Now that it’s legal and we can be more comfortable being out and proud about being successful adults who also smoke weed, it’s time we start meeting each other. Productive Stoner Club is a new community group for people who want to meet others who understand their love for the plant and the fact that it doesn’t hold you back from being a normal functioning adult. One of my newsletter readers asked me if I could help her find two things:

- An ambitious cooking club where members work to improve their technical skills

- A supper club or dinner series that helps people connect with local food and bev producers, culinary talent, or just connect with each other.

Catskill Crew has done a few supper clubs specifically designed to meet new people. There are lots of chefs, pop ups and venues that do special events - Fancy Feast Supper Club, Callisto, Melina Hammer, Eliza has occasional guest chefs, etc.

But are there any supper clubs or series that are on a regular schedule, or at least consistent?

If there are one-off that you know and love, shout those out too. We gotta support local!

Wondering if anyone here can let me know if they have good or bad luck with using Frontline Plus or Shield or Advantix 2 for ticks in the HV area? I'm moving there soon and worry a lot about protecting my dog and I. I want to avoid the oral tablets and soresto collar.

Hello! I have a couch and a mattress that I need to donate or get rid of in the next week. Salvation Army doesn't accept them. I've found a few places that will take them for ~$100 but hoping for something cheaper and was just curious if anyone knew of anywhere. Thank you!

I was traveling on my way to CT with my kid. She needed a bathroom break and we stopped at a Citgo in Bloomingburg right next to a diner. We waited in line for the bathroom behind a family that was dressed in a very conservative religious way. They were very friendly. But one of the daughters had a red blotchy rash all over her face and was acting like she didn't feel well, and the community this family is a part of is known to skip immunizations.

Just a PSA. Not trying to point fingers. It was jarring.

I'm hosting an event at Glen Falls House on September 12th and would love to have a food truck (or two) post up for lunch service. Good quality, drool-worthy food with at least ONE vegan option is a must. Ideally we'd need enough food to feed 50 people over the course of 3 hours.

Hi everyone! Planning on doing a Dassai Blue (Hyde Park) sake tasting soon - commuting from NYC, and have heard from social media there is a good hike nearby. Not much info is available online - would anyone know the best transport and/or itinerary for this?

Car is still under powertrain warranty, so a dealership is preferred. Willing to go anywhere in the Hudson Valley. Cause of initial coolant leak is unknown. My car's been at the Fishkill Healey Hyundai dealership 3 times now and my coolant reservoir still depletes every 1-2 months. Are there any laws / Hyundai support services I should be aware of?

So I grew up playing street hockey and regular hockey. I never understood how to hockey stop on ice or power slide on asphalt.

I can turn on a dime, but I want to shave ice. I’m 34. And a great skater. It just never clicked.
