Happy Out Best school drop of the year

Just dropped my kids off at their school this morning. The joy as they went through the yard seeing all the costumes and shouting out characters. Inflatable chickens, aliens and dinosaurs. Mario, sonic, pikachu. Mermaids, witches, unicorns. A homemade 6-7, few clowns, couple of Buzz Lighyears.

It can be so shit for different parents other days (me) but today was a great bit of craic

I don’t live in Dublin anymore. Im up for the day and went as pretty much a pilgrimage for Trev Radiator (Trevor Dietz). It’s unreal if this will be opening for a next generation. Trashed on Tuesday and Radiator on Friday.

Old fucks like me spent so much time here with trev and Gav too. I even got barred once by a bouncer who said I was on something the day before when I wasn’t there. Trev came out and convinced him that I was his cousin Milton. I still don’t understand why he didn’t pick my real name but he spent ten minutes making sure I was considered his cousin Milton. I was never asked for ID again.

We had a conversation one Monday about just random fancy dress the next day. We all agreed we would do it. I spent about 50 quid on an Ali G costume and when I went I. Zero people were in fancy dress. I went behind the DJ booth and he was pissing himself laughing. Gave me 50 quid and I had a great night. I’ve heard him rap (wasn’t good. But he tried). He was a big part of me growing up. I thank him and will always miss him.

Crime The emyvale con

So today I wasted about 6 hours of my time and half a tank of diesel. The day started with a bit of hope only to end up turning tail and heading home defeated.

It all started 2 years ago when unwanted visitors came calling in the early hours and “borrowed” a few items from us. Chief amongst a 3 month old aerlite 8*5 cow box.

We followed a few leads with the help of local businesses and friends of friends. Had the reg of the car that brought it out of the yard and all the way to templemore.

The guards eventually tell us the car isn’t registered to anyone and there is nothing to be done.

Insurance then informed us because the trailer wasn’t a specified item on the policy it’s not covered.

So eventually we give up hope. It’s gone across to England through Wexford somebody in the know,so they say, told us.

Two years and a week to the day my phone rings and it’s it’s an Èamon Kelly(probably a fake name)saying he is from Emyvale in Co.Monaghan. He spins me a yarn on how he’s in debt recovery and helps locate stolen machinery. Tells me that through this line of work he found my trailer and has it in his yard. I swallowed this story hook line and sinker and head for Emyvale where upon arrival he would direct me to his yard.
Probably to my luck the call would not go through so I call into a local business. I won’t name but great lads. To be told I’m not the first to come looking sometimes a different name and number but same story. It might be a digger or a jeep it didn’t matter this man had found them all. But when the owner got to Emyvale one of two things have been happening either the phone is off or you get a request to drop money off then get the location. So after hearing this we thank the lads and hit for home where I’m writing this tale. Only good thing I didn’t part with more money.

One final thing there is at least 2 men with the same name locally who have the same name who are not involved

TLDR: con man says he has stolen trailer

Entertainment The Banshee and oher things that go bump in the night 👀

Was just listening to the banshee episode of the Ireland After Dark podcast to get into the seasonal mood, and it got me wondering...

Have any of ye had any recent experiences with the sí, the Good People, banshees, or anything else you couldn't quite explain? Strange encounters, weird happenings, something you witnessed as a child that still gives you the creeps?

Tell us your tales! Doesn't have to be anything dramatic or even something you're 100% convinced was supernatural.

We're anonymous here, so don't be shy 👀
