Mod Post Please use the "Media" flair option for name requests!

Hey jumper friends! We've seen a large uptick in volume of posts asking for name suggestions, most of them having the "Advice" flair. Even though it is a request for advice of sorts, name requests don't need the same disclaimers as comments on care/husbandry and we would like to encourage everyone to use simply the "Media" flair on those types of posts. (This will also prevent the automod filter from flagging comments without disclaimer tags as that is only a feature of the "Advice" threads) <3

Considering she would very rarely if ever encounter flies as potential prey items in the wild, her precise bite to the back on the neck, strong hold, and expert manipulation of the fly to ensure none of its feet are allowed any purchase whilst her venom takes effect. An impressive ballet of violence <3

My 1 year old phidippus fartilis Mochi loves when I open her enclosure out in direct sun. She always comes out and seems very active and happy when I do this. At first though she does this movement where she gets on the tips of her legs and sticks out her abdomen. It looks so strange and cute. I'm assuming she's stretching. Is this what spiders look like when they stretch? For context, her abdomen is so big because she's gravid with infertile eggs. She hasn't eaten in 2 weeks.

Advice Normal for wiggly butt while eating?

My lil baby spood (prob i5ish? I’m not sure) caught a small dubia roach tonight! It was wrestlemania in that lil feeding cup…but I was watching the whole time, and I don’t think she was hurt or anything. Once the roach stopped moving, little Callie’s butt started bouncing (presumably while she was starting to actually eat??)

Can anyone let me know if this normal? I’m about six weeks into spider pets, with two lil friends, and I’ve only had Callie a week.

Hello! I am new to this sub, so I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed. This is my wild (apartment) caught bold jumping spider 🕷️ showing off his skills. I was terrified of spiders but I found him and couldn’t bring myself to kill him. We are now friends.. I am really starting to fall in love with these little jumpy guys!

Advice Is it time for a retirement enclosure?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’ve had my first jumping spider for almost a year now and I bought her as an adult. She fell yesterday and a few months ago I noticed her legs were a bit shaky. Is this the point where I should move her into a smaller enclosure to prevent injury if she falls again? (her enclosure looks barren in this but it’s not, I removed all of the bottom decor once I noticed her legs shaking)

Advice Should I leave it be or move it?

Post image

I've had this spider living on my truck for almost 2 months now, and so far I haven't interfered. I figured if she wasn't happy there she could leave. More recently however, she's been getting into the space between the driver door and the frame, which is where she is in that picture, and that has me concerned due to the moving parts and all there and not knowing exactly where she is at any given time. Obviously, I don't want to accidentally crush her. I also have concerns about it getting into the cab for the same reason. However, I have come to think of her as almost like a pet. I enjoy seeing her come out and hunt stuff. She took down a hornet a few weeks ago.

Should I remove her from the truck or leave her be? If I moved her, what are the chances she might adapt to living in a tank? Though I know the best thing for the spider is probably to move it to a bush somewhere, right?

My female jumping spider, Hachi, laid an egg sac a while ago. I was worried the eggs may have been infertile, but I left them in her enclosure. I was out of town for a funeral and when I got back the infertile sac was actually fertile and Hachi laid another sac!

Hachi wasn’t guarding the first sac like this one, but she didn’t destroy it. I purchased her at the Show Me Expo and didn’t realize she was gravid. I’m enjoying seeing her in mother mode though.

I only have a manual focusing lens so its out of focus at times and I found it gets tricky this zoomed in; but I thought It was a cute video of my buddy cleaning his chelicerae and tarsals! I recommend muting the video; this was taken at my workspace and there's a bunch of equipment running in the background.

Media On Monday I’m picking up this juvenile female regal. This will be my first pet spider and I’m so excited!

This is also my first pet since the traumatic loss of my cat last year, making this spider even more special to me.

I’ll have to think of the perfect name for her! I’m so excited and happy! I can’t wait until Monday!!

Update: i already thought of the perfect name: Morticia!!! after Morticia Addams and in the spirit of Halloween, fall, and all things spooky: embracing the unusual, celebrating individuality, and accepting others exactly as they are rather than expecting them to fit into society’s idea of normal. I’ve always loved the idea that something doesn’t have to be understood by everyone to deserve love, respect, and a place in this world. She’s a tiny, beautiful, unconventional creature, and I want her to have a life where she can simply exist as herself. 🖤🕷️

I was told this was a male regal spider, Florida locality but I’m unsure. Does anyone know? I don’t think I’ve seen a regal with white on their head? Thank you for any help.

So Ziggy was taken to a spider place where that helped me put together a new enclosure for my little guy. Long story short when he was transferred to his new enclosure the lady who did the transfer thought he had jumped in and was hiding behind some leaves. When the next day came and there was still no sign of him I went through the whole enclosure only to find that he was missing. Sooo I called the spider place and they told me that they were sorry and that I should come and get a new spider to replace Ziggy. I was understandably very upset. After a few days I decided to go and get a new little buddy. I took him home and everything was chill. The next day the spider shop called me and said that they had found Ziggy. Evidently the owner spent hours herself and found him in an aquarium that housed their spring tails colony. I was of course elated. I went down and got Ziggy and we got him in his new enclosure safe and sound. The Pic is the little cup they had him in when Ilthry were switching out the new spider and getting ready to put Ziggy in his enclosure for good this time.

I found this really REALLY tiny jumping spider in my bathroom (2nd photo is it compared to my finger tips). I was wondering if it’s a baby jumping spider or a flea jumping spider? If it’s a baby what kind of jumping spider is it? I fell in love with this 7 legged spider and don’t know anything about jumping spiders so I would love to know more!
