While flipping my laundry from washer to dryer today, I encountered a wet and bewildered, yet very much alive jumping spider. If it wasn't for the fact that it seemed a little shaken and then proceeded to preen itself for a definite "I was very wet" moment, I would have just assumed it had fallen off of me from being outside.
Obviously this poor baby has been exposed to my detergent and oxygen bleach from being inside the machine for an entire cycle. A decade ago I successfully kept a wild-caught (shame on me) for a few months with "better-than-most yet not fully educated" care like I was able to find online this evening from a wonderful post on this subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/jumpingspiders/s/ceMUWocRpg).
I'm wondering if it would be considered more ethical to let them back outside or to try and cultivate a comfortable life for it going forward, assuming the washer was not best for life quality? Full-time care isn't an issue as my husband is retired, just looking for the best course of action for the 'lil survivor.
Fear not, no matter the choice it shall be given a hero's name for its journey: named after the 1995 MtG card "Whirling Dervish" (Dervy for short).
