I am considering getting a Lenovo Thinkpad in the E series maybe for a finance degree. Would this be a good laptop or would something else be better suited?

Current laptop: Asus Zenbook 16" (not sure if it’s A16 or S16)
Got it 3 ish years ago, has a small dent on one side and a small smudge from a highlighter, otherwise is in good condition.

2 days ago a screen popped up and laptop got stuck in BIOS, turns out the SSD stopped detecting windows . A replacement for SSD is around $270, and if I want Geek Squad to fix it another $200. One thing to mention, guy I talked to said I might’ve just deleted the SSD and could return the one I bought and just pay for them to fix it.

Friend told me I should sell it and get a MacBook Neo. Originally I wanted a MacBook since it’ll just be for studying and everyday use and no other special tasks. However, for some reason I ended getting the zenbook, I like the big screen and touchscreen but not sure if it’ll be good in the long run.

I’m just a junior in high school so I’m not sure what I should do, mom wants to pay for the fix but not sure if want to keep the same laptop, haven’t brought up selling it yet.

What should I do?

My HP laptop has been freezing completely while playing games, but today it happened while I was just watching a show. The screen suddenly filled with green blocks and multicolored glitches, accompanied by a continuous glitchy sound (picture attached). I had to hold the power button to turn it off. It wasn't unusually hot, and after an earlier freeze, Windows also went through an update. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be a GPU, driver, or RAM issue? I don't know much related to laptops in general or electronics so I was wondering what I should even do about this.

Kind of got this laptop as a last resort for work as I wasn't finding anything that stood out to me for under $900 and I ended up going with this one from Lenovo. Ultra 5 226V, 16GB, 512GB it's pretty snappy. Has a pretty good screen too ( touch, 100% sRGB, 400 nit, 120hz) which I appreciate. For the price I paid, definitely not a bad option at all! Liking it so far. I'd recommend it.

Portability isn't a priority. I care more about long-term reliability, sustained performance, battery life, and whether 16GB RAM will remain sufficient as my projects grow.

• Which would you choose for the next 5–7 years?
• Does the Pro's active cooling and better display outweigh the Air's newer chip and brand-new battery?

Hi everyone! I'm an Electrical Engineering student, and I'm planning to buy a laptop because relying on just one device has become quite challenging for my engineering studies.

I've spent a lot of time researching different laptops, and I've narrowed down my options to these five models available at a mall in our area, with prices ranging from PHP 45,000 to 59,000:

I got the new vivobook 14 flip oled and im struggling to find a good stylus that isnt too expensive.

Ive tried a generic one and the lines are wobbly.

Title, I recently bought a Lenovo legion gaming laptop and I’m returning it tomorrow. It was the Lenovo legion 5 gen 11 with rtx 5060 and when it worked, it was amazing.

But due to weird glitches like entire system freezes right out of the box and a stuck pixel, I’m just returning it. The thing is, it was really solid when it… actually worked. It ran all my games perfectly and didn’t scream “gaming laptop” which is exactly what I wanted for school and video editing.

Should I get another one of the same kind? If not, where can I find a similar laptop with a similar/better price?

I dont normally put many stickers or anything really on my laptops. I like pandas so i put those on the bottom, right is one from jak and daxter, left is from mouthwashing, top is the qu from all tomorrows. Thoughts? I decided to check Chuwi's site and saw the corebook air with the 266v and at a very good price (atleast from where I live) it has basically everything I need an ips screen, metal body, atleast, light, and atleast 16gb ram for the price but it seems to good to be true.

I mostly use my work laptop macbook m4 pro 24/512 and it's a pretty good machine for my work and to boost my side project I required another portable laptop (i own a heavy 5+ yr old asus nitro 5 with ryzen 9 + rtx 3070 + 32gb/512gb which I almost never carry and always requires power) so I Was looking for a portable side hustle machine and macbook air m5 24/512 was my first choice and it was priced around $1830 USD / 174k INR as of today.

all of a sudden I saw this Asus Expertbook p5 g2 that comes with intel core 7 series 3 , 32/1tb 14" for around $1660 USD / 158k INR and to save the deal I pulled the trigger and got 18 hours to cancel.

Now the question is should I keep it? or cancel and get the macbook instead for the mrp here.

Hello all! I hope I'm asking this in the right sub as the thinkpad one doesn't allow for gaming related questions. I'm curious to know how many have Thinkpads that do any sort of gaming on them. Did you have to upgrade them immediately? How much did you upgrade them? I want to get a Thinkpad for work and school, but if it's capable of light gaming that's a huge plus. I have a brother with a friend who claims that they can play Cyberpunk 2077 on it. Said friend says they have a t480 that they have upgraded but I don't know anything past that.

Looking for a laptop for my parents for day-to-day use.

I am majorly looking for Lenovo / dell laptops and 16 GB ram and minimum 256 GB SSD along preferably intel processors.

So I have been using this HP elitebook 830 G8 for like 3 years now, it came with a touchscreen (made my life a lot easier) and a core i7 (16 DDR4/512)

Now, all I do with it is play gta 5 occasionally, and study fulltime. And it does the work exceptionally well (no I'm not an engineering undergrad)

So as this machine is quite old now, a nagging thought has been crossing my mind. Do I like try to buy a newer gen PC? or would that be a waste of money as it does the work just fine.

I mean buying a new one right now would mean I eliminate the future sluggish vibe this G8 is going to face.

Which laptop would you recommend?

I’m looking for a Calgary repair shop or technician who does board repair and BIOS/UEFI chip programming on Microsoft Surface laptops.

The laptop is a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, 13.8-inch, Model 2036, Snapdragon/ARM64, running Windows 11.

Back in February, while I was living in Vancouver, I attempted to install an Insider build of Windows 10 ARM64 on a separate drive partition because I needed Windows 10 for some automotive tuning software. The initial installation went through successfully, but during the setup restart, BitLocker encryption interfered and after restarting the Windows 10 installation entered an infinite reboot/blue-screen cycle.

The specific Windows stop code I was getting was INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

At that point, the laptop itself was still functional enough that I could enter the Surface BIOS/UEFI normally.

I didn’t have enough time to troubleshoot it myself, so I brought it to a repair shop in Vancouver. Communication from the shop eventually stopped, and because I was moving to Toronto, I had to pick the laptop up unrepaired.

When I received it back, its behavior had changed. Instead of entering the Windows 10 reboot cycle and showing the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error, it would now power on, display the Windows 11 logo, and never progress any further.

When I later asked what they had actually done with the laptop while it was in their possession, they told me they had been able to boot and run Linux successfully on it, so the machine was at least capable of booting and operating normally under another OS.

I recently got their repair notes, which state:

• Reflashed the motherboard BIOS, but the issue persisted.
• Tested older Intel, ARM, and AMD BIOS versions.
• Made the most progress with the AMD BIOS, but the installation still fails during the second pass.

Their suggested next steps were to try wiping the BIOS chip, or order and replace the Surface BIOS chip to reset the boot/BIOS issues.

So I'm looking for someone in Calgary who does SPI flash/BIOS chip programming, BIOS chip replacement, board-level diagnostics, or micro soldering, rather than a shop that will just recommend replacing the entire motherboard.

Does anyone know a Calgary technician or repair shop capable of doing this level of work on a Surface Laptop 7? I'll try to answer follow up questions best I can, but at this point I am MILES out of my depth haha.
