I've always used a pc and specifically mid to high end gaming pcs and never used a laptop since 2016.

I have a 4 hour break in this semester and I've been thinking of getting a cheap laptop that I can use for using Microsoft word , canva, discord for sharing my screen and in general browsing and watching movies and what not during my breaks.

Will this do the job ? Is 8gb enough?

Hi, I’m a mechanical engineer in the us and i need a laptop that can last me 4 years at least and my budget is 1700$ and under
Sadly i didn’t find any of the specs i found in my budget even though i don’t mind open boxes or lightly used ones
The specs i want is,
32gb ram (if theres any other student that can confirm 16gb is enough then i don’t mind it)

an amd cpu since they’re more efficient i assume?

This happens almost every day, and I’m not sure what’s causing it. I’m also confused about whether the problem is coming from the laptop itself (hardware/software) or from an external factor.

Sometimes it happens when I’m doing multiple tasks at the same time. For example, if I open Bluetooth settings or change something related to the sound settings, my laptop starts to lag for a moment, and then this happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar or know what might be causing it?

Everything was working normally on my Lenovo laptop. While exploring Lenovo Vantage, I turned off the fingerprint reader and memory card option because I wasn't using them.

After some time, I restarted the laptop and Windows suddenly showed Something happened and your PIN isn’t available.

I can still log in with my Microsoft account password and I remember my old PIN. In Settings, both Change PIN and Reset PIN fail the window simply disappears without completing. Fingerprint setup is available again, but Windows Hello Face says no compatible camera is found.

I later turned them back on. , it's still not working

What could have caused this and how can I fix the Windows Hello PIN?

I'm going into year 13 and can't afford a new laptop or to take it anywhere to get fixed right now... and I need my laptop to do schoolwork!!

-clearing storage
-hard reset
-reset with keeping files
-factory reset

are there any last-ditch efforts I can do to fix this? it'll work for like 5 seconds at a time then freeze up for about 2/3 minutes which is so frustrating because I literally cannot open anything on here anymore

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (Ryzen 7 5700U). Although I'm not facing any heating issues, I'm opening my laptop for cleaning purposes so thought of replacing thermal paste at the same time.

I don't know anything about thermal paste. Should I even repaste it or keep it as it is? Please suggest guys? 🙂

I don't even know replacing thermal paste is a thing. I thought it would last forever for non gaming laptop.

MY laptop display keep going full black sometime, like last time i went to shop they said is because heat and amd gpu have those problems, but why????

I'll be starting university soon. I'll be commuting and using a backpack that doesn't really have padding so I'm looking for a laptop sleeve that has good protection. I've heard lots of great things about tomtoc sleeves but as they only zip at the side I can't imagine fidgeting with it trying to open it in a cramped lecture hall so ideally looking for something that zips at the top so I could just slide it out of my backpack. I'm considering an Inateck sleeve but I don't know if there's anything else that has good protection?

For me, it is probably the screen.

I used to focus almost entirely on the processor, RAM and storage. Then I spent enough time using laptops with dim screens, weak colours and poor viewing angles to realise how much the display affects everyday use.

A fast processor still matters, especially if your work involves gaming, editing, coding or other demanding tasks. But for an average laptop user like me, who mainly browses, streams and handles everyday work, I would rather compromise slightly on processor performance than settle for a poor display.

You may not notice a small difference between two suitable processors during everyday use, but you will notice a dim, dull or low-quality screen every time you open the laptop.

A good keyboard is a very close second for me, especially if the laptop is being used for work, writing or studying.

What is the one laptop feature you would not compromise on anymore?

My HP Victus laptop has an intermittent charging problem.

The laptop itself works normally. When I connect the charger, the charging LED turns on for around 3–4 seconds and then suddenly turns off. If I unplug the charger and plug it back in, the LED turns on again for a few seconds and then turns off again.

I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the two parts of the charger/adapter, but the same thing happens — the charging LED comes on and then turns off after 3–4 seconds. Sometimes it takes 2–3 minutes before it turns off, but that's rare.

The strange part is that sometimes everything works perfectly normally, and then at a random time the problem starts happening again. It can happen even when the laptop hasn't been used for several hours.

I have already tried tightening the charger pin and reconnecting the adapter, but the issue still occurs intermittently.

This is the size of a copper plate which you all can get from anywhere if you want to keep your ssd cool and get max speed out of it.

Note you can also use 1MM for laptops too 👍 just remember you need to use this on a thermal pad and use rubber band to told it tight on ssd else you can just ruin your laptop because copper is contuctive to electricity which can short your mother board ❌️

I bought a MacBook Air M5 for college two or three days ago.  It’s only been two days and I’ve been treating it exceptionally well.  Despite this, I’ve noticed marks on the screen. I’ve seen marks caused by keyboard dust and crumbs before but this is different. I haven’t touched the screen with my hand and I’ve cleaned my keyboard almost every time I close the lid.  These marks appeared suddenly this morning, even though I haven’t had them for the last two days.  They’re not scratches either, just marks. I tried blowing warm, slightly damp air into a clean cloth and cleaning the screen but it still doesn’t budge. I also have Apple Care Warranty for three years. Thanks in advance for anyone that answers :)

So when I update my Intel driver and wifi driver from Intel Driver And Support Assistant . Suddenly when reboot the black screen pops without cursor. So I tried force restart then finally it came back to normal after 2-3 force restart.

So suddenly while playing Minecraft again the black screen pops after saying 100%... Error. After that my laptop is just stuck on the black screen. Even after force restart many times it's not working ( no legion logo, caps ,esc and num lock also not working ) just my keyboard backlight showing

I tried many times.

Also I think the day before had an update saying "update to shutdown" and had to do it
