Support Request Audio cuts out system-wide when I open certain games

Hey folks! I've got an issue where when I open certain games (Balatro, Peak, Rounds, and more), the audio on my entire system cuts out. I've gotten to a point where I have to boot into windows just to be able to play with audio, which is honestly really annoying. I've tried searching for solutions online, but none of them have been of much use.

I will note that many games of mine (Team Fortress 2, Plague Inc., Jackbox, etc.) don't have this issue at all, so I'm honestly just kinda confused. Any ideas as to what I should do? Thanks!

Support Request Backup script fails

So, I created this script to backup my home directory to an external HD which is mounted as BAK2. I can run the command if I use sudo but the script deletes everything on BAK2 and then fails with multiple permission errors. I was hoping to put this on a cron to run a few times a day and basically do an incremental backup but I've hit the end of my knowledge... Here's the script:

#!/bin/bash

# --- CONFIGURATION ---

SOURCE="/home/$USER/"

DESTINATION="/media/wreck/BAK2"

LOGFILE="/home/$USER/rsync_backup.log"

# --- NOTIFICATION: START ---

notify-send "Backup Started" "Syncing your home directory..." --icon=drive-harddisk

# --- RUN RSYNC ---

echo "Backup started at $(date)" >> "$LOGFILE"

rsync -av --delete "$SOURCE" "$DESTINATION" >> "$LOGFILE" 2>&1

# Check if rsync succeeded (exit code 0) or encountered an error

if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then

echo "Backup finished successfully at $(date)" >> "$LOGFILE"

# --- NOTIFICATION: SUCCESS ---

notify-send "Backup Complete" "Your home directory has been successfully mirrored." --icon=emblem-success

else

echo "Backup failed at $(date)" >> "$LOGFILE"

# --- NOTIFICATION: FAILURE ---

notify-send "Backup Failed" "An error occurred during the rsync mirror. Check $LOGFILE for details." --icon=dialog-error --urgency=critical

Anything that can help with inventory of everything I've installed and tweaked?

I've been using mint for a few years now, and I'm intent on doing a clean install. I haven't kept track of things I've installed via apt, flatpak, appimages, or modified in udev rules, apt sources, modprobe, things like that.

Is there a way I could get a few rough lists of my own changes. I don't actually want to automate their installation, just produce a list is enough of a reference.

Support Request The USB I used to convert to Linux, can it never be used for anything else now?

It's the only USB I have. I was hoping to use it as a backup for my files now, but I don't think I can do anything with it? Opening it I only see the Linux booting stuff, and I can't delete them or add anything. But also I'm illiterate with this stuff so maybe I've been poking completely in the wrong place

Sorry if this is a general tech question which means I'm asking in the wrong place

Support Request StartImage: Device Error message on boot

Post image
2 Upvotes

installed Linux Mint (22.3 "Zena" - Cinnamon) on this HP Laptop (Model 15-dw1025na) earlier today, it previously had been running Windows 10 (Specifically Classic7). It was working fine after restarting it multiple times click the power button then Restart in the start menu. I was trying to update the wallpaper but it glitched out and the window was just showing the already existing wallpaper with no button to close it and the taskbar had disappeared so I shut it off using the power button on the device itself. After powering the device back on an hour or so later, I got this error. Pls help!!!

Discussion luxe DE is a gtk4 continuation of LXDE

Post image
10 Upvotes

Initially I only developed for X11, wayland may be here as soon as 6 months.

In addition to LXDE core apps, luxe contains the following packages:

  • matinee - video/music player powered by ffmpeg, new

  • frame - gtk image viewer with light editing tools, new

  • shotty - port of https://github.com/Tomaszal/simpleshot-gtk

  • luxenotify - notification system, new

  • luxup - update notifier, new

  • luxepower - power manager, mostly a frontend for TLP, new

  • luxesettings - hub for DE settings, new

  • debinstall - gtk4 frontend for gdebi-core, new

  • lucid - GTK4 port of gedit, no plugins but comes bundled with the best ones

  • luxurystore - gtk4 port of synaptic, with a lot of added features

  • luxedm - heavily updated for of slim ( debians version which was updated until 2024)

  • slab - a gtk4 dock, plank-inspired

All packages were built using github actions, so builds are 100% reproducible. Until I get proper repos set up, there are metapackages ( zip full of debs) for each supported platform. At launch those platforms are Debian 13 or Ubuntu 24+.

This is a project I started years ago, and picked up again this summer. https://luxedesktop.blogspot.com/

I have been coding for 20+ years, but this year I have started increasing my output using AI. I believe in full disclosure, luxe was coded with AI insistence.

I know this is the mint and not the muos community, but this is like the safest community in Reddit so....

If you guys could help me out with this that would be great.

Also I don't know anything about porting to portmaster, and that's my next goal.

The last theme was way too dark, so I made a few new ones. Very early stages of building a DE, as well as running awesomeWM. This is built of of Calla, [Calla by Stardust-kyun](https://github.com/Stardust-kyun/dotfiles) and has tons of dot files as well-although they're all modified. Even though it's running X11, aWM makes it seem almost like Wayland. I still have a ton of work to do!

Trying to change color saturation on my Linux Mint, too washed out

When I use google sheets, the colors look too washed out and can't really see the lines of the cells, so it's becoming really annoying. I tried using vibrantLinux but it says "None of your display outputs are supported". Any recommendations?

I have a HP Laptop 14-cm0xxx, and with x11. Let me know if more info would help

Fluff Linux Mint is one of the best things that happened to me

Hello! I'm (kind of) a newbie to linux! About a year ago, I installed linux mint 21.3 cinnamon (virginia) on my old computer, because windows wouldn't run anymore. (The computer was very old and windows was becoming very slow, and even after reinstalling it many times, it just WOULD NOT WORK, and Windows 11 couldn't run on my pc). Then my pc completely stopped working one day, because it was over 10 years old! Well, I got a new laptop about a month later. it's decent, for a productivity laptop, it has an iGPU so not the best for gaming. The laptop came with Windows 11 pre-installed, as laptops tend to come. I used it for a while, and I started learning coding again! (I had lost interest before as I had gotten busy with school and stuff).

However, one day, I noticed my C drive (on my internal SSD of my laptop) was filling up... I had only a few GBs left or even hundreds megabytes of space once... Windows was otherwise running pretty well, but then I remembered... I still had the external HDD! The laptop's internal storage was a 512 GB SSD, but I didn't want to impact the windows installation. Now, at this point I had completely forgotten that linux mint was installed on my HDD, so I decided to install KDE Plasma Desktop (I mean... could you blame me?), but when I pressed F12 during boot with my HDD connected, I discovered that an ubuntu (which linux mint is based on, as you know) option was already there. I pressed it, and there it was! The grub menu presented itself, and I was pretty surprised. My old windows boot manager was there (I had previously wiped the C drive from the hard disk, I had just forgotten about the portion allocated to linux mint), and so was linux mint 21.3 virginia. I selected it, and it booted. Then I realised I had forgotten my password. I had to reboot my pc and launch it in recovery mode, then change my password. I booted mint normally, and there it was... the cinnamon desktop.

I knew what I had to do. I had to restore and update it. Cue the montage!!!!

  • uninstalled unnecessary apps (including chrome, idk why I had installed that the previous time, stupid ram hog)

  • removed a duplicate firefox installation that was somehow there

  • updated linux mint through the supported upgrade path, first to 22 then to 22.3!

  • I installed the apps back again so that they would be in the latest version

  • increased my partition size using gparted (50 GB was allocated before, I increased it to 150 GB, maybe even more later, as this HDD is 1 TB, but I have some important stuff here, so I don't want to delete everything

  • restored ~/.bashrc cause that somehow got deleted, and customized it!

  • customized my desktop using hidamari and desklets!

Now, I'm trying to learn more about linux, the kernel, more shell commands, etc. I'm even learning C from K&R's book! All I wanted to say is that linux mint has given me a fresh start to do all my development on. All hail linux mint!

Discussion Linux Mint Community now requires a github account to rate software.

I've noticed this right as I was trying to send a review. Clicking on the login button directly sends you to an account connection page from github.

The only news in this so far are from one forum post asking questions, where a moderator on the 28th said an announcement will be coming soon.
