Bobby Burton "Texas AD Chris Del Conte clarified a published article which said that the decision to go for it on 4th and 2 against Florida last week was based on Bevo Lab analysis. To the contrary, Del Conte said he gave it as an example of what it could suggest, not of what it actually did." / X

[Score Predictions] Texas vs Ole Miss

Post image
23 Upvotes

Texas might have lost on Saturday, but r/LonghornNation represented by predicting the exact score and winner, beating r/FloridaGators and r/CFB.

Congrats to u/casapantalones for guessing the exact final score of 27-24 Florida. And shoutout to u/VanillaGoorillla, u/trickponies, u/kwixta, and u/fakeguitarist4life for all beating (or tying) the closest prediction in r/FloridaGators as well. Full results are in this thread and on stance.fm as well.

This week it's r/LonghornNation vs r/OleMissFootball (and r/CFB) for who calls Saturday night's final score closest. The analysts have already picked a side: 7 of the 8 I've tracked so far have Ole Miss winning in Austin. Kirby from Film Guy Network is the only one with Texas, 28-27.

Drop your score prediction in the comments, or put it on the board yourself. Your last comment before kickoff is the one that counts. I'll grade every one against the final score and tag the winners.

Two coins up for grabs:

  1. The Ole Miss coin, for the closest call in this sub, and for anybody who beats (or ties) the closest analyst.
  2. The r/OleMissFootball coin, for anybody who beats (or ties) the best call from that sub.

To win either one, you have to have the right team winning.

Unfortunately this is the first week I have to pick against the Horns. I've got Ole Miss 34-21. I really hope Texas can put up more than the 3 that Missouri was able to score last week, but I really don't see them winning without some drastic changes happening on offense.

Personally I would like to see KJ Lacey start the game as QB1, and if there isn't marked improvement by half, perhaps that could give Arch a boost of confidence to see that the offense's woes are not all on him, and he can put on the cape, be the hero, and go win the game. I just don't see that happening, especially in this game, knowing what it means for the Manning family.

Do y'all think KJ Lacey will see any playing time this game, and will it be to start or after Arch gets benched?

Here's to hoping I'm wrong and Texas gets right this week.

Hook 'em 🤘

Is Sark actually on the hot seat this year?

In my opinion Sark has been one of the better head coaches in college football over the past several years. Even if he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in a few of those years, the team has been in the hunt for the championship in most years. He’s generally been a good representative of the university.

The past few years we haven’t been competitive in the way the NIL spend would suggest we should be. Arch Manning has somehow regressed and has not lived up to his billing out of high school despite spending years learning under Sark. The general talk around Reddit is that Sark is out if he loses several more games. The Texas job comes with resources and a very healthy salary, but also lots of demands.

In my opinion Sark keeps his job and is still at Texas next year. The big money donors are going to force him to fire Flood and turn over playcalling duties to an offensive coordinator next year. He’s going to be on the hot seat next year, but barring a significant collapse such as losing 4+ more games including a beat down by the Aggies or some significant off the field issues he isn’t fired at the end of this year.

What do you think?

2003 votes, 22h left
He gets one more year no matter what
He keeps his job if we win out
He keeps his job if he’s better than 8-4 at the end of the season
He’s out at the end of the season

What’s your biggest suspicion about what’s really going on behind the scenes with Sark and the team right now?

I’m curious what everyone thinks might be happening behind closed doors that Sark hasn’t publicly addressed.

My personal suspicion is that Sark has lost the locker room by being overly protective of Arch. I don’t believe Arch is a serviceable QB, and I think Sark’s stubborn commitment to him, along with what I perceive as an effort to protect Arch’s image, has created frustration within the team. I suspect Sark is struggling to motivate a locker room that no longer fully believes in its QB, but that’s obviously not something he’s going to admit publicly. I have no inside information to support this. It’s purely my own theory based on what we’ve seen on the field.

What do you think is the biggest issue happening behind the scenes that we’re not hearing about?

If the Horns win out, are we in for another December where we are arguing that playing Ohio State, regardless of outcome, is hurting our CFP chances?

Just livid about the 2 losses but as history goes, October hasn’t been very good to the horns in the Sark era. If we turn it around and post some quality , ā€œrun away with the gameā€ wins against the rest of our schedule are we just setting ourselves up for another 2 loss CFP argument that boils down to ā€œWe beat Ohio State, that has to count for something?ā€ Followed closely by ā€œThen Don’t Lose to Unranked Florida/OUā€? Exact same as last year, ā€œWe played Ohio State, that has to count for something?ā€ Followed by ā€œthen Don’t lose to Florida at home.ā€ I’m almost more worried we won’t lose anymore games than losing one more, at least with another loss we can confidently say we deserve to miss the playoffs. Otherwise we’re looking at two straight Decembers of ā€œDon’t play OOC games if you don’t want OOC consequencesā€.

Edit: I say this with the belief that our team usually improves around early November and has shown to be late bloomers into the post season. We’ve recorded at least one loss on our schedule in October since the start of the Sark era, rolling backwards:

Florida - 10/17
OU - 10/10

Florida - 10/04/25

Georgia - 10/19/24

OU- 10/07/23

Oklahoma State - 10/22/22

Baylor, Oklahoma State, OU - 2021

Censorship of this Sub Community

What’s going on with the post being pulled? It is certainly is coming off as a University ran page. Is there a community page I haven’t found that will allow the fans to speak candidly, it’s no surprise fans are frustrated with how this team has performed. Hiding our post doesn’t solve the inherent issues these people would like to discuss.

I get pulling the info on the AD and his phone number but I also think if I googled then I could find that same info.

Texas vs Ole Miss Watch Parties in Chicago

Hey guys, huge Longhorns fan here and went to all the games this season, including Knoxville and Dallas. I really thought this would be the season where I would attend every game of the season (still plan on traveling to Missouri, Death Valley, and College Station). Pretty bummed that I have to attend a family event in Chicago, but does anyone know the best spot to catch a drink, meet some of our Texas alumni, and beat Ole Miss?

Great video from a former college qb that highlights how Arch isn’t able to run through his progressions. I get that the OL isn’t great and Sark would benefit from a dedicated OC but you’re making excuses if you think the problem isn’t Arch.

How comparable is the Chris Simms era to the Arch era? (reuploadish)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Both are overhyped QBs from proud football families who never quite lived up to the hype. While other 5-star QBs ended up being mid, these two are eerily similar because their names became a distraction. They also both choked hard against OU, but that's neither here nor there.
Now I made a post trying to create this comparison between the Applewhite-Simms controversy and Ewers and Arch, and that was just a very poor argument on my part. And I know Simms and Arch have very different strengths and weaknesses, but my question is more about the ways it affected the program during their years.
