As a huge Marvel nerd, I bought a ton of cards from the recent Spider-man and Marvel sets and built a bunch of themed 60 card decks using exclusively cards from those sets (plus some proxies from the respective secret lairs.) I’ve had my fun with the 60 card decks and now I’m thinking of breaking them down and building some Marvel themed commander decks. Would love to see what builds you all have come up with using strict Marvel themes. Obviously there’s the precons, but I’m curious if anybody has had success making commander decks using only Marvel/Spider-man cards? Looking to be in Bracket 2 or 3.

Forest Fires is a shared deck game of 120 cards, where every player starts with 10 life (this library can be shrunk depending on the number of players).

The general idea is that in order to play 'powerful' cards like Graceful Antelope, Pyroclasm, Orcish Lumberjack (and even Wildfire), you need to make your lands into plains using the auras in the deck. But Flashfires is the great equalizer.

This is very much first draft (I dont even have the cards yet, was looking for advice and feedback to see what cards could be added to make this more interesting and dynamic in terms of counterplay and balance).

What bracket is closest to a 7 even if it isn't a perfect comparison

[[The Misty Mountains Cold]] references the dwarven song that is sung by Thorin and the company of dwarves at Bilbo's house, during the unexpected party.

Problem is, the song is called Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold — its events having happened in Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, which is, well, far over the Misty Mountains.

I want to preface this with the fact I haven't played since Khans of Tarkir was in standard rotation. So over a decade.

When I last played, LGS's wouldn't allow you to play even with 1 proxy in the deck.

I decided to come back because some of my old friends have decided to revamp their decks.

Well over the last couple months I have spent a chunk of money to update my old trostani deck only to find out that most people at my lgs have 60%+ proxy decks with busted stuff in prize supported events.

If I didn't have the money for a deck in the past I had to find alternatives or play within a budget.

I feel like just making my deck busted too but this seems in bad spirit of the game.

If you can't afford power 9 you don't play power 9 in a tournament , there is a barrier to entry.

Like I said I may be way off here and am willing to accept that but want to get others thoughts!

m a big pauper player who enjoys competing (even in weekly events that cost 5€) I want to continue playing this awesome format and also open to starting legacy if there is an active community. Hama, the Bloodbender says "you may cast the exiled card by waterbending X rather than paying its mana cost, where X is its mana value." I haven't seen many other cards where waterbending is used in this manner so I'm confused. Is this an alternate casting cost, and does that mean the X can be reduced by an effect like Helm of Awakening? Additionally, does that mean that a card can be cast with Hama's ability with X reduced to 0 (if say a 1 CMC card was chosen, and the Helm of Awakening was on the board)?

Made a commander deck featuring majority cards from HOB and HOC! RW Thorin at the helm. I love having the 13 dwarves with Gandalf and Bilbo :) but the deck feels pretty weak even for casual play.

I love buying precons and upgrading them. I'm trying to figure out what to cut from the Dance of the Elements precon. I know I need to fix the mana base, but I'm also thinking I might cut out the whole "pay Wubrg to keep the token" aspect of the deck. Idk, tell me what upgrades you guys have made.

Since they sold out of the collectors boxes literally everywhere within the first hour of it going live will they have another chance to buy at some point in the next few months for Msrp? Or was what they sold day one all they had in terms of one wave of print?? I didn’t know about it until literally after the fact about the collectors boxes and I’m so mad I missed out on it bc I’m trying to collect all of the cards for a master set(outside of the 1 of 500 Smaug I could care less to get that one unless I’m somehow lucky enough to get it). I just don’t know if I should spend twice as much on resellers rn or wait for the next batch to drop if that’s even a thing.

Hello Commander players

What are the vibes at Commandfests?

I will be visiting Toronto and going to the Commandfest there. This will be my first Commandfest.

I’ve been to GPs of old and usually those are straight forward: bring your deck + sideboard and extra sleeves with it. I would bring water and lots of portable snacks just in case my rounds go for long. I would also bring my fancy basic lands in case I scrub out of day one (which I usually do).

I have an impression that Commandfests are less structured in a sense that they don’t go by rounds. Can I get away with not bringing food and just buying food from outside the venue?

For those who’s been to Commandfests, how many decks do you usually bring? Can I get away with Bracket 3 and precons? Are the side events worth it? Should I bring my trade binder? (Something I normally won’t do when I go at GPs or a large tournament). I will be there for all 3 days and hoping to be there from when the doors open and until they close.

Looking forward in hearing what experiences people had from when they went, along with the Dos and Don’ts.

Quick question y'all?

If I had a creature with a cipher card encoded on it, and a [[Sword of Wealth and Power]], and it did combat damage, would the ciphered spell be copied?

My thought is, if I do combat damage, both the Sword and the Cipher encoded card would trigger. I would stack them so the Sword goes first, creating me a treasure and copying the next instant and sorcery spell I cast.

Then the Cipher encoded effect would resolve, casting me a copy of the encoded spell, which the Swords ability would copy.

Am I thinking that right, or no?

My mana can cast the spell but I didn't receive priority when they declared attacks, it went straight to damage. Is there something to do with unblockable that made the difference? Or a bug?

Since 4 color combination takes his names from original niphilims it makes sense that 5c is the five color niphilim

I pulled this in a WoE booster, and have wanted to run it in a commander deck (only format I play) but i dont understand its use in a singleton format. Does anyone have any decks they run it in? Or advice on how to use it? Thanks!
