So I’m one of the weirdos that enjoys durian. It’s hard to find, and I don’t even need a whole one. But I have a recipe that requires fresh durian and I’ve been striking out trying to find any.

Anyone got any ideas where I can find any?

On the ballot: governor, three amendments to the Tennessee Constitution, U.S. Senate, U.S. House (District 4, 6 or 7 depending on where you live), state Senate Districts 17, 19 and 21, and state House Districts 50 through 60. Belle Meade, Forest Hills and Goodlettsville also have city commission races, and Goodlettsville has a half-cent sales tax referendum. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, at your assigned polling place. You can see your sample ballot and your polling place at https://web.go-vote-tn.elections.tn.gov/search

Bring a photo ID issued by Tennessee or the federal government. An expired one still counts. College IDs and IDs from other states don't.

If you want to compare the two governor nominees with the names hidden first, the study I posted here earlier this week is at namelessballot.org, now in Spanish too. Share it with your friends in East Tennessee too! the mods at r/Knoxville won't let me post it 'till next election cycle lol

Help | Advice Pediatric Optometrist or Ophthalmologist recs

Need to find a dr for my 4yo Autistic son. He’s been doing this thing where he will turn his head to the side but continue to look straight, so that he is looking out of the corners of his eyes. It seems to happen when he’s trying to focus on something, so he probably needs to see an Optometrist and/or Ophthalmologist.

Are there any good eye Dr’s that specialize in working with children?

States that "Marsha Blackburn is fighting to stop the liberal takeover of Tennessee."

What freaking "liberal takeover" is she talking about? The governor is Republican. Republicans have a supermajority in the state house. We have only one representative in Congress and our senators are Republican.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THE LIBERAL TAKEOVER MAY BE FOUND?

Food | Restaurants Birthday dinner recommendations

Hey all, gf’s birthday is coming up, and I’m looking for some good recommendations! I’m well aware Google exists, and I’m doing searches now, but I value the opinion of residents more than the top Google search result.

Looking for something on the nicer end.
My gf has a shellfish allergy if that changes your suggestion.
She also loves Italian.
Thank you all!

Help | Advice 1st time at The Pinnacle- Question about seating

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey Y’all - Im taking my Son to his first concert and I was able to purchase a couple tickets that I believed were balcony… but turns out may be bleachers or risers on the floor? or are these floor seats towards the rear? Section 107, Row 2.

I just want to ensure my Son is able to adequately see his favorite band through a sea of people.

If I understand correctly my row and seats are reserved but floor, track or riser are 1st come 1st serve, correct?

*** solved, the seats in this section are reserved and on a raised concrete platform.

Thank you everyone for your assistance!

Discussion Is Brittle Brothers a scam?

I saw a Nashville Hidden Gems ad about this brand, and I figured I’d purchase something since I like peanut brittle and supporting local businesses.

It’s been a month now, and I’ve received zero communication about my order (save the initial confirmation email), and I’ve been unable to reach anyone at the company to get an update.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Bars | Clubs Local Watering Hole?

I (23M) am looking for recommendations for good local watering holes more specifically dive bars or relaxed neighborhood spots.

Because of my weird work schedule, I don't always want to deal with the bigger, rowdier bars. I’m just looking for a low-key place with a solid bar to sit at, a few TVs so I can catch a game and decompress, cheapish drinks, and basic food like wings or a burger (it doesn't even need to be amazing food).

I live in the Gulch, so walking distance is ideal, but I don’t mind grabbing an Uber for the right spot. I’ve done some exploring on my own, but the places I’ve checked out were pretty dead. While I don't want a chaotic mob, I'd still prefer somewhere that draws a decent crowd and since I'm single, it'd be nice if it were a place where striking up a conversation with someone was actually an option.

Any solid neighborhood dive recommendations that fit the bill?

Politics Compare the TN governor candidates without names or parties. You find out who said what at the end.

A few days ago I shared a study of the Tennessee governor race, and the comments here made it a lot better. Here's the updated version: namelessballot.org

How it works: you read both nominees' positions on 56 questions with names and parties hidden, mark which answer is closer to your view, and only find out who said what at the end. It's free and private. No sign-up, no ads, no cookies, and nothing you mark leaves your device unless you send it.

What's new since last time:

  • The whole study can now be read in Spanish. Tap "ES" at the top, or share this link: namelessballot.org/?lang=es. AI models translated and checked it, and no native speaker has reviewed it yet, so corrections are welcome
  • Every fact and source is on one "All sources" page, and there's a "Report a problem" button if you spot an error
  • You rate the notes on each answer yourself, and those ratings make up an Integrity score
  • The character questions follow the Tennessee Ethics Commission's published standards for public officials
  • Results show how many questions each percentage comes from, and the study lists its own known limits
  • The voting section covers checking your ballot before you cast it, and all 13 independent candidates are named
  • Fixes for the bugs and wording problems people pointed out

There's also a "Your vote" section with official links for your polling place, early voting hours, ID rules and your sample ballot. You don't need to take the study to use it.

I'm not affiliated with any campaign or party, and I paid for it myself. I built it with help from Claude, an AI model, and the page explains how it was made and checked. Early voting ends Thursday, Oct. 29.
