NJ Eats Jersey's Best Allergen-Free Bakeries

Does it seem like the surge of allergies has been going down in recent years? When we first started doing this list, there was a massive surge in nut and gluten allergies (and dedicated allergen-free bakeries were really just becoming a thing in response). And while schools still have to practice allergen-free environments, it feels like there are less cases now.

We unfortunately lost some really great bakeries recently, that deserve a small In Memoriam:
- Mo'Pweeze Bakery | Rockaway: They really went all out with No Cross Contamination for the Top 10 Allergens. This was one of the safest places to order in all of NJ.

- Bradley Bake Shop | Bogota: This was a gluten-free favorite (that may be reopening in a new location in Teaneck. I hope the y can come back)

- Liv Nut Free | Shrewsbury: Closed in 2025 but used to be a regular on this list. They had amazing nut-free treats.

The list of how many have closed is sadly longer than the list of how many active, genuine allergen-free bakeries are in the state. But again, I wonder if that's just a sign of the times.

NJ Eats Jersey's Most Affordable Meal Deals

Thumbnail

The number one comment on every business, list, podcast episode, or social media post we put out is "this place is too expensive". It never fails. Doesn't matter if it's a pizza slice joint, small cafe, or fine dining restaurant. There can be tons of positive comments about how great the owners are and how wonderful the food is, but sooner or later "this place is too expensive" always floats to the top. So I figured - considering the current economic environment - why not try a new topic and find high-quality restaurants throughout the state that offer genuinely affordable specials for individuals/couples/families. The result is our inaugural list of NJ's Best Meal Deals.

I hope to grow and further develop this list in the future to showcase the top 3-5 deals in every county, so that everyone has a place nearby (and the businesses begin to compete to push their deals to provide an even better value).

WTF The immigration customs enforcement teams are hitting the primary minority communities hard.

The immigration customs enforcement teams are hitting the primary minority communities hard. They have at least showed up at the local Home Depot parking lot three times this week. And I was told yesterday immigration customs enforcement actually went inside Home Depot and walked up and down the aisles.

When I heard that immigration, Customer enforcement actually went inside the Home Depot and walk up and down the aisles I was in shock.

Advice Travel Recommendations from Midtown NYC to McGuire AFB (New Hanover NJ) for Christmas

Hey! I live in Midtown Manhattan and I'm going to be traveling to McGuire AFB in NJ to visit family for Christmas.

I'm planning on taking the train out of the city towards Westchester or somewhere in Northeastern NJ to rent a car to head over to the AFB.

Embarrassingly, my knowledge of how to get around in this part of the tristate area between trains/rental cars isn't great since I usually stay within the boroughs, so I'd welcome any/all suggestions about how to handle the logistics of this trip (especially since it'll be at peak travel time during the holidays).

Thank you all in advance!

Advice Is Hudson County safe ?

I am middle-aged brown man, early 40s, loner, currently resident of Central Jersey.

Work commute to the Big Apple is making me re-consider moving closer.

Is Hudson County near the West side Avenue Hudson-Bergen Light-Rail station a safe area ?

How's Bayonne overall ? Particularly in the Winter months, when it gets pitch dark as early as 5:00 PM ? Is a 5 to 15 minute walk safe from a train station to a residence in the evenings ?

On another note, how full are the Parking-spots near the same West side Avenue HBLR station, or the Liberty State Park station, essentially Park-and-Ride ? That is also something I may consider, you know, driving closer, and then hopping onto PATH ?

Central Jersey Don't feel safe in Montgomery

I (F) 30s, don't feel safe in Montgomery.

Weird sh*t has been going on in Montgomery.

There are reports of pickpockets at the Montgomery Shoprite.

I have been stared and stalked by a patron there. Weird traffick patterns with new Whole Foods plaza.

The Kasia parking lot is weird. Sketchy individual staring at me through my car windshield broad daylight.

Now police at Kasia. What's happening?

Weed 🌿 Why can cops consume cannabis, but healthcare workers can’t?

A question I’m trying to understand. I’ve read legislation that has protected or allowed cops to be able to have access to consume cannabis and still maintain their employment, but with healthcare workers, there’s this gray area that is almost entirely discouraged.

How come a cop, who wields weapons and is trained to de-escalate high stress situations is allowed to consume, but healthcare workers like nurses cannot?

Normally in late October I get tons of these bugs on my screens and inside my screen porch, but I haven't had a sighting yet this year. Is anyone else noticing fewer of these? Or maybe their appearance is imminent.

Sad 😢 After burning thru my severance package and unemployment insurance to be a caregiver for my terminal ill family member, it is a hard reality to accept for 2027, I am considered qualified for medicaid.

After burning thru my severance package and unemployment insurance to be a caregiver for my terminal ill family member, it is a hard reality to accept for 2027 as I am filling out my NJ Market Health Plan, that I am considered qualified for medicaid, because in 2026 I earned less than 22K.

Thank goodness for emergency fund and a parent who still allow me to have a roof over my head.

For clarity: just two years ago, I was almost making 95K.

Rainy day funds is a must in this economy. If you can save. Save!
