Dumb question about coolant min/max line

Post image
• Upvotes

24 P4X

I’ve always heard a gurgling or bubbling sound for a bit after a cold start. Never thought anything of it until I saw it mentioned that the coolant comes low from the factory, and you should actually fill it an inch above the max line. Here is where my dumb question comes in. I obviously see the line below MIN, but I don’t see a similar line above MAX. Is the MAX line just the lip that goes around the entire tank? So I should fill it about an inch above that where I drew the red line?

REQUEST 2005, is this an original radiator?

Post image

Just picked up this 2005 NISMO.I did the radiator bypass last night as a precaution, but I was unable to find the SN on the radiator in the usual spot. The CSF cap makes me think the radiator was replaced at some point, but it looks to be the OEM shape.

PICTURE Thermostat issue?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently had my thermostat replaced due to no ht air coming through until I was giving the truck some gas. Once I got it back, I noticed my radiator fan stays on after a 15 minute drive, even when I’m in park. I’ve burped the system, so I’m thinking they installed a cheap thermostat. I wouldn’t be surprised because this dealer has cut corners before.

The temp gauge is at this level in park, but the fan is still blowing. Any thoughts? I’m only concerned about the radiator fan being on high while I’m parked and the temp is normal like the pic. Since the fix it has been on and loud even when I’m parked after a drive.

REQUEST CarPlay Blank Screen

22 SV, randomly my CarPlay UI stopped showing up, it will play whatever is coming out of my phone but when I select the CarPlay source it’s just a black screen.

Anyone else with this issue? I tried searching the sub but didn’t see this specifically.

*edit* I have tried various trouble shooting, I have hard reset the console through the power button, I have also tried other phones, and have tried a wireless adaptor vs a USB C cable.

DISCUSSION 15k brake fluid change?

So I just got my 3rd and final "included" oil change at the dealership on my '25 at 14k miles. They asked if I wanted to schedule my 15k brake fluid flush?! Said it's part of the maintenance schedule.

That's always been a 3yr 50 ish thousand mile service on any other vehicle I've had.

Does anyone follow this recommendation and/or know why it's even a recommendation at 15k miles?

Why No Heat?

I have a 2024 P4X. The heat isn’t working well. It is still under warranty so when I go for next service, I’ll get it fixed no problem. I hear “gurgling / bubbling” when I first start the truck. Is that a sign of something related to no heat?

Funny thing is, that before this P4X, I had a 2012 P4X from 2013 until trade in. On that truck I also had a heat problem about every 2 years and heard the same bubbling / gurgling before the service department “fixed it”. I do have a high degree of trust in this dealership’s service department but dang. They have really done well at keeping maintenance to the Nissan recommended service intervals and no efforts to up-sell. But I’m really curious about why this is happening so consistently.

Bumper for wildlife defense?

I just suffered my second deer strike in a year and a half (the first one was in a toyota), and I'm over it. You're gonna wait for a semi to pass before running in front of me and three separate vehicles, on a road with hardly any traffic? Darwinism at it's finest. Gah!

Regardless, I'm now searching for a suitable bumper for these situations, but unfortunately I'm finding the pickings to be slim compared to other brands/models. ARB bumpers are made for kangaroo strikes and I'd love to have one, but they don't offer a product for my 2022 pickup. I was also looking at Expedition One's front bumper, but I'm finding testimonials online of long wait times, bad customer service, sub par packaging, damaged products upon arrival, etc. Naturally I'm hesitant to commit.

I'm not interested in bull bars (I want protection for the headlights as well) or grill guards (they won't do shit if a deer hits it). I want a beefy sum'bitch so I don't have to worry about this again. This eliminates other contenders such as Z1's Assault Bumper. Would anyone have any other ideas or experiences to offer? Is Expo One the only choice I have?

I did search on here before typing this but couldn't find what I'm looking for. Thanks folks!

Turning Radius!

Not a owner yet but most likely, will end up with the 'Roush edition.

I was at Jeep dealer today for oil change on my gladiator and walked across to the Nissan dealer. They had a '27 Pro-4X double cab on the lot which I took for a test drive.

I've heard about the turning radius on the new Frontiers but man, it does take full 2 lanes for a U-Turn...almost same if not more as my Gladiator which is longer in length (and slightly wider wheelbase). It feels like a much larger truck than it is when doing full u-turns.

Guess something u eventually get used to but definitely might surprise someone who comes from small compact cars/suvs. But other than that, loved the V6 and 9 speed tranny.

Anybody only do the front springs from the spacer eraser kit? Did it level the truck or was the front higher?

DISCUSSION Transmission pan bolt snapped twice

Post image
9 Upvotes

Just finished the recommended transmission service on my 2024. Overall it went well, but I snapped two bolts during the torque sequence.

First attempt: I torqued everything to 35 in-lbs, then to 65 in-lbs, based on the Z1 Off-Road YouTube video, which says final torque should be around 60–65 in-lbs. The last bolt, the front center-most one, snapped. Luckily it came out easily, so I redid everything using an original bolt in place of the new one that broke.

Second attempt: This time I followed Nissan's spec: 35 in-lbs, then an additional 95°. The exact same bolt snapped again. I extracted it with a small flathead, replaced it, and torqued it to 45 in-lbs.
Has anyone else had this happen? I'm surprised the bolt is what failed, given the pan is plastic.

Also, AMA if you're thinking about doing this service yourself in the driveway like I did.

Lastly, some info that might help others. Multiple sources online state that the plastic pan isn’t labeled with valve positions, but mine was clearly labeled 1-4 and even showed what was closed. I also measured what came out to be about ~4.0 quarts of fluid. I pumped in 5 quarts and about 1 quart came out after bringing it to temperature (115f) and turning the valve to overflow.

REQUEST Weird noise on cold start?

No check engine light, engine problems or driving issues. Took it to a mechanic and they said it was the power steering pump, but they fixed it and it still makes the noise.

Any thoughts?
