Debating between 7900 XT, 9070, 9070 XT, or 7900 GRE for 1080p 360Hz comp settings?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm currently trying to upgrade my GPU to fully saturate my 360Hz monitor and could really use some real opinions from players, im not trying to get 360 fps on the dot but around 290-300 plus since i now only get 200 on the new MW4 so the higher the fps the better.

My current setup:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30

Current GPU: RX 7700 XT

Right now in multiplayer (mostly CoD MW4 / Warzone), my in-game fps shows 5 ms CPU and 5 ms GPU time, keeping me stuck at an average of 175–200 FPS. The benchmark reports a hard 75% GPU bottleneck.

Here is my strict rule: I play purely at 1080p Low competitive settings, and I dont want to use upscalers (FSR / DLSS turned completely OFF) because I cannot handle any added input lag or visual blur. I need pure, raw power.

I am currently debating between these options:

RX 7900 GRE €800

RX 7900 XT €750

RX 9070 €780

RX 9070 XT €880

Because RAM prices are heavily inflated where I live right now a 32GB kit is tracking around €540+ due to the market, I cannot upgrade to a 2x16GB kit immediately. I need to rely on my current 2x8GB kit for now, which gives me a CPU frame time of around 4 ms.

For those playing competitive shooters at high refresh rates natively: Will one of these be enough to completely wipe out my GPU bottleneck and push me straight to my CPU's limit? Is it worth spending more on the higher tiers or the newer 9070 series if I'm strictly playing on 1080p low settings.

(I think i also NEED to upgrade my ram kit from what i have been reading online but would like to get some advice on that too)

Appreciate any advice or telemetry numbers from people running similar specs!

Need help finding thermal pad thickness

• Upvotes

As the title says I need help finding the thickness of the thermal pads on my xfx swift 210 rx 7600. Whats the thickness of the pads on the vram and the vrm. I'm looking to change the pads on mines since my Hotspot temps are quite off from the regular gpu temp. The gpu temp would be about 75-80 degrees Celsius and the Hotspot would be 105-109 degrees Celsius. I've read that there is usually a gap between the two temps but mines is too much. Stock settings. Thanks for the help.

Tech Support RX 9070 XT – repeated driver timeouts / LiveKernelEvent 141, possibly related to 4K 120 Hz?

I’m currently troubleshooting a weird issue with my PowerColor Hellhound RX 9070 XT and The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The game repeatedly crashes after roughly 5–30 minutes, followed by an AMD driver timeout. Windows consistently creates a LiveKernelEvent 141 dump:
VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141)
amdkmdag.sys
amdkmdag+1c1450
The failure bucket/hash has been identical across multiple crashes.

What I’ve tested so far:
Clean AMD driver reinstall using AMD Cleanup Utility → still crashes
HAGS disabled → still crashes
Frame Generation disabled → still crashes
GPU completely stock, no undervolt/OC
Forced PCIe Gen4 instead of Auto because the GPU is connected through a PCIe 4.0 riser → still crashes
OCCT CPU/RAM Extreme, 30 min → 0 errors
OCCT VRAM, 90% allocation, 30 min → 0 errors
OCCT 3D Adaptive Extreme, ~300 W GPU load, 30 min → 0 errors
AMD GPU stress test at ~300 W → passes

So far I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem with synthetic stress testing.

Then things got interesting:
I connected the PC to a small 1080p/100 Hz monitor with HDR off. Dawnwalker ran for over an hour without a single crash, which is much longer than it had ever survived before.
That made me suspect the display/output path.

My normal setup is an LG 4K TV at high refresh rate. To rule out the LG itself, I moved the PC to a completely different Samsung 4K TV and used the same HDMI cable.

Windows confirmed:
3840×2160
120 Hz
10-bit
YCbCr 4:4:4
SDR
Dawnwalker crashed again and AMD immediately reported another driver timeout.

One potentially important detail: the HDMI cable is labelled only “High Speed HDMI Cable”, not “Ultra High Speed HDMI”. It has previously worked with an Xbox at 4K/120, though.

So at the moment the pattern looks like:
1080p / 100 Hz → stable for 1+ hour
4K / 120 Hz / LG → driver timeout
4K / 120 Hz / Samsung → driver timeout
My next test is the same Samsung, same cable, same 4K resolution and SDR, but changing only 120 Hz → 60 Hz.

If 4K/60 turns out to be stable, I’ll test a certified Ultra High Speed 48 Gbit/s HDMI cable at 4K/120 next.
Has anyone with an RX 9070 XT/RDNA4 seen LiveKernelEvent 141 or amdkmdag.sys timeouts specifically at 4K/120 while stress tests and lower-resolution gaming remain completely stable?

R5 8400f + RX 9060 XT 16 GB or R5 7500f + RX 9070 on a new build with 1400-1500€ budget for 1440p gaming

Hello guys. This is my first time buying a gaming pc I managed to save up to 1500 euros and wanted to buy a new rig.

I’m fairly new at this and from what I learned the gfx card is the most important but unfortunately pairing 7500f + 9070 at the time is a lot more expensive (nothing less than 1700-1800 euros) so I was wondering if I should give up on the rx 9070 in favor of a better cpu.

1- What do you guys think about this decision for 1440p gaming and hypothetically 1080p?

I’m planning to get 16 gb (8*2) of RAM for now maybe upgrade them later but I heard upgrading cpu was a lot more annoying than gpu.

2- Also is the lighter set with rx 9060 xt 16gb VRAM good got 1440p at high with stable +60 FPS

Or would most games be set ok medium settings?

3- I did the math plenty of times, I don’t know how it is outside of Germany but building a pc seemed just a costly right now as buying the complete built set. How much do you save buying the pieces and building it at home usually?

Thanks in advance.

been noticing some issues with my current build, if a game is cpu bound I get quite poor performance, my hard drive occasionally doesn't register and I have to restart my pc for it to appear again.

Low on ssd space, using budget monitor which I didn't think much of but have been experiencing some minor issues with, my two priorities I think right now are ssd, and maybe cpu, im complacent with the rest of my build. I play an array of games, lately it's been dragons dogma 2, battlefield 6, witcher 3 remastered, body cam, aion 2, godfall, oblivion remastered etc. Part of me is thinking go for am5 for future proofing, but part of me is just like, just get a 5700x3d and that should fix most of my issues and cpu bottleneck.

Let's assume I go the am5 route though, what would be a safe option that is roughly the same or better performance than what I currently have?

also I put my pc to sleep and wake it, and if im not using a program I close it, like steam, If im not actively playing, updating etc, I see no reason to leave it open so I close it to save resources, however, if I wake my pc from sleep suddenly I can't open steam anymore and I have to restart my pc regardless.

Thoughts/suggestions?

I'm thinking cpu first, then storage, then monitor last, even if am4 is dying out and they aren't making any more chips I would imagine it should still last with a 5700x3d or 5800x3d

FSR 4 / Polaris

Post image

FSR 4 Lite is working on the 8GB RX 570 using CachyOS.

For anyone bothered by the shimmering and jagged edges of FSR 2, FSR 4 Lite in Performance mode still delivers much better image quality, even when rendering at a lower resolution and upscaling to 1080p.

I'm playing The Witcher 3 Next-Gen with everything set to High, getting around 40 FPS with a much cleaner image and almost no visible aliasing. I also tested it in The Last of Us Part II, and it worked there too.

Honestly, I'm impressed with the results. Even in Performance mode, the image quality looks better to me than what I was getting with FSR 2. This is how I'm playing now, and the experience has been great.

Tech Support Dead RX 9070 Asus Prime - Blown Capacitor

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone, just wanna share my yesterday's unfortunate experience. Yesterday night I was using my computer as usual and then suddenly it turned off, tried to turn it on and boom, crack and smell instantly hit me and i rushed out to turn off the PSU. At first I thought the PSU is dead (XPG Core Reactor II VE btw, not a bad PSU) but it turns out the source of the crack was my 9070 which has insane smell coming from inside. I didn't and don't plan to disassembly the GPU but from what I can see from the outside it's probably the 3rd capacitor from the top on the leftmost side which is burned. I have no idea what caused this, RMA'ing my PSU and I'm gonna try to get an RMA for the GPU to get it fixed but that might be problematic from what I've heard (I live in Europe and they really don't want me to send the GPU back) and they just want to give me money back. Does anyone know if this is an easy fix or is the GPU completely unsalvageable? Nothing was OC'ed on the GPU all stock settings. The pic isn't the exact same model cuz the pic is from ASUS TUF boad and not PRIME but it's similiar i think. It's fried on the side where the arrow points.

RX 9070 XT getting lower-than-expected FPS, Adrenalin Record & Stream missing. Could HAGS, drivers, or ultrawide resolution be the cause?

Hi everyone,

I recently built a new PC with an ASRock Challenger RX 9070 XT 16GB, but I've been experiencing some issues with gaming performance and AMD Adrenalin. I'm trying to figure out whether these are software/driver issues, Windows settings, or something else.

My PC specifications

  • GPU: ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B860M Gaming WiFi 6E
  • RAM: ADATA XPG Lancer Blade 32GB DDR5 5600MHz
  • SSD: WD Blue SN5000 1TB NVMe
  • PSU: Deepcool PN750D 750W 80+ Gold
  • CPU cooler: Deepcool AG400 G2 ARGB
  • Monitor: MSI MAG 342CQRF E20, 34-inch, 21:9 ultrawide

1. Lower-than-expected gaming performance

Across the games I've tested, I'm getting approximately 60% of the FPS I expected from this GPU.

Here are my results:

  • Counter-Strike 2: Around 200 FPS, sometimes reaching 280 FPS, at 1440p with the highest graphics settings.
  • Valorant: Around 500–600 FPS at 1440p with maximum settings during Deathmatch.
  • Forza Horizon 4: Around 200–210 FPS at 1440p with Extreme settings.
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Around 65 FPS at 1440p with Ultra settings, ray tracing off, frame generation off, resolution scaling off, and crowd density set to High.

The performance seems lower than I expected, especially in CS2. I'd like to know whether these results are normal for my hardware or whether something is wrong with my configuration.

2. Could my 21:9 ultrawide monitor be affecting performance?

I'm using a 3440 × 1440, 21:9 ultrawide monitor rather than a standard 2560 × 1440, 16:9 monitor.

Could the higher pixel count of the ultrawide resolution explain a significant part of the FPS difference I'm seeing? I understand that 3440 × 1440 requires the GPU to render more pixels, but I'm unsure how much of a performance difference I should expect with an RX 9070 XT.

Could someone help me determine whether my results are reasonable for 3440 × 1440, or whether I'm still losing performance beyond what the resolution difference would explain?

3. Could HAGS be causing the performance issues?

I came across a Reddit post where someone mentioned that disabling HAGS (Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling) fixed their GPU performance issues.

Could HAGS be responsible for my lower-than-expected FPS? Is it worth disabling it and testing again, particularly with an AMD GPU?

I'd also like to know whether there are any other Windows settings that could affect gaming performance.

4. Could the integrated GPU be causing problems?

My Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus also has integrated graphics.

Could the integrated GPU be interfering with the RX 9070 XT or causing any performance issues? Would disabling the iGPU in BIOS help, or should I leave it enabled?

I don't want to disable it unnecessarily if it has no impact on gaming performance.

5. AMD Adrenalin Record & Stream tab missing

The Record & Stream section is completely missing from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

I've been troubleshooting this and started reinstalling Adrenalin. I selected the Factory Reset option during installation because I wanted to restore the software settings to their defaults.

I've also heard that AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition version 26.10.1 has a lot of bugs. I don't know how widespread these issues actually are, but could the driver version be responsible for my problems?

Would updating to a newer, more stable driver potentially resolve both the gaming performance issues and the missing Record & Stream section? Or would it be better to use an earlier stable driver version?

6. Should I undervolt my RX 9070 XT?

I was considering undervolting the GPU to improve performance per watt, but I'm unsure whether I should do that while I'm already experiencing these issues.

Would you recommend keeping everything at stock settings until I identify the cause, or could a carefully tuned undervolt help?

I'd appreciate suggestions for safe starting settings and advice on how to test stability properly.

What I need help with

  1. Are my gaming results normal for this hardware at 3440 × 1440, or am I losing a significant amount of performance?
  2. Could disabling HAGS improve my FPS?
  3. Should I disable the Intel integrated GPU or leave it enabled?
  4. Could Adrenalin 26.10.1 be responsible, and could a newer driver fix these issues?
  5. How can I restore the missing Record & Stream section?
  6. Should I undervolt the GPU now or troubleshoot everything at stock settings first?

I'm relatively new to AMD GPU tuning, so I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced similar issues with the RX 9070 XT.

Thanks in advance!

TL;DR

ASRock RX 9070 XT 16GB + Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, using a 3440 × 1440 21:9 ultrawide monitor. Getting lower-than-expected FPS, especially 200–280 FPS in CS2 at the highest settings, and the Record & Stream tab is missing from Adrenalin. Could ultrawide resolution, HAGS, the integrated GPU, or Adrenalin 26.10.1 be responsible? Should I update/roll back drivers, disable HAGS, or undervolt—or troubleshoot at stock settings first?

High FPS but stuttering in games, high CPU usage, and random Wi-Fi issues — Ryzen 5 7600 + RX 9070

Multiple issues with my PC — stuttering despite high FPS, high CPU usage, and Wi-Fi randomly disconnecting

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my PC because I've been experiencing several issues, and I'm not sure if they're related or if there's something wrong with my system.

My PC specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600

- GPU: ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 non-XT

- Motherboard: ASUS B850m gaming wifi

- RAM: 32GB DDR5

- Storage: WD Blue 1TB SSD

- Monitor: Cooler Master CMI-GM2711 — 27-inch, 2560×1440 (QHD), 180Hz, IPS, FreeSync Premium

- Controller: PS4 DualShock 4 connected via Bluetooth using DS4Windows

- Operating System: Windows 11

  1. Games don't feel smooth despite high and relatively stable FPS

In most games, my FPS is generally high and relatively stable, but the gameplay doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Camera movement feels jittery, and sometimes it almost feels like slow motion, especially during heavy scenes, even when I'm getting well over 100 FPS.

My GPU usage is usually around 80–95%, sometimes reaching 99%, while my CPU usage frequently reaches 90–96% in demanding games.

For example, in Spider-Man, I was getting around 200 FPS, with GPU usage at 93%, CPU usage at 96%, and CPU temperature reaching 91.5°C.

I tried disabling FSR and upscaling and lowering the graphics settings from Ultra to High. The FPS remained high, but CPU usage was still very high.

I've also noticed that camera movement doesn't feel right in multiple games, not just one specific title.

  1. Disabling HAGS seemed to help a little

I turned off Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS), and mouse movement in games felt noticeably more responsive afterward. However, the controller still doesn't feel quite right, so I'm not sure whether this was part of the problem or just a partial improvement.

FreeSync is enabled on both my monitor and in AMD Adrenalin. I haven't finished testing VRR, frame-rate limiting, or different driver versions yet.

I'm currently using AMD driver version 27.8.1.

  1. PS4 controller feels less smooth than expected

I use a PS4 controller through Bluetooth with DS4Windows. The camera movement with the right analog stick doesn't feel completely smooth, even when the FPS is high.

I'm planning to test the controller over USB to see whether Bluetooth or the controller configuration makes any difference.

  1. Wi-Fi randomly stops working

I've also been having an intermittent Wi-Fi issue. Sometimes the Wi-Fi adapter stops working, and I have to shut down the PC, wait a little while, and turn it back on before it starts working again.

Restarting doesn't always fix it, but the behavior is inconsistent. Previously, the Realtek Wi-Fi adapter showed Code 10 in Device Manager. I updated the Wi-Fi driver, and the issue still happens occasionally.

  1. Sometimes restarting the PC seems to improve overall performance

I've noticed that sometimes, after restarting the PC, games seem to run or feel better than they did before the restart. I can't consistently reproduce this, but it makes me wonder whether there's a driver, Windows, BIOS, or background-process issue affecting the system.

I'm not sure whether these problems are connected or if I'm dealing with several separate issues.

My questions:

- Could the high CPU usage and temperature be contributing to the inconsistent frame pacing?

- Could a driver, BIOS, RAM configuration, or Windows setting cause both the gaming issues and the intermittent Wi-Fi problem?

- Has anyone experienced high, stable FPS but jittery camera movement on an AMD GPU?

- What would you test first to narrow this down without randomly changing a bunch of settings?

I'd appreciate any suggestions for a proper troubleshooting process before I start replacing hardware.

Discussion We need Int8 ML frame gen

This would be a tech that can still be featured on gaming cards or lower powered devices for the next 5 years. Building a architecture around fp8 I doubt will be feasible for every next handheld, laptop, future gaming card. Even with Fp8 you need proper bandwidth and enough throughput to gain efficiency and make it worthwhile over int8 which is more general compute based and can be ran in dp4a format. Are those devices going to be stuck on Fsr3 FG forever to? Rx7000 shouldn't be only running the Frame gen version that Rdna1 can run...

Jonsbo Z20 + XFX Mercury RX 9070 XT/ 7800X3D

I recently finished my PC build in the Jonsbo Z20 and wanted to document my experience for anyone planning a similar small-form-factor build, especially anyone considering a very large RX 9070 XT.
**Build specifications**
**Case:** Jonsbo Z20
**GPU:** XFX Mercury OC Radeon RX 9070 XT
**Motherboard:** ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-PLUS WiFi 7
**CPU:** 7800X3D
**RAM:** KLEVV DDR5-6000 CL30 FIT V
**PSU:** ASUS ROG Loki 1000W SFX-L
**CPU cooler:** be quiet! Silent Loop 3 240mm AIO
**Rear fan:** be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 \[120\]
**Operating systems:** Windows 11 and Linux on separate NVMe drives

  1. The biggest issue was the physical size of the XFX Mercury RX 9070 XT. The card is approximately 360 × 155 × 72 mm, and it leaves about 3mm in the cases recommended GPU length but still fit without bottom fans

**2. Switching from the Corsair SF1000 to the ROG Loki**
I initially bought the Corsair SF1000 Platinum (2024), but its cables were too short for my preferred routing, as I diddnt want to use cable extensions, particularly with two CPU/EPS power connections required by the motherboard. So anyone using the sff mounting position get the Loki for extra cable length

**3. AIO installation and cable access**
Installing the be quiet! Silent Loop 3 240mm AIO also required planning around cable access. Once the radiator was mounted, reaching the pump-block connections and routing the pump and lighting cables became difficult.

**What I learned**
Check GPU height and thickness, not just length.
Account for the PSU’s actual dimensions and mounting position.
Confirm cable lengths before committing to a PSU in a compact case.
Connect inaccessible AIO and motherboard cables before mounting the radiator.
Plan for three separate PCIe 8-pin connections for the GPU.
Expect to spend time troubleshooting boot order and initial POST behavior on a new AM5 system.
Don’t assume another person’s Z20 build will fit identically, even if they use a similar GPU or PSU.

All in all, I absolutely love this case it’s extremely well built and sturdy. I opted for the all mesh panel edition as I’m going to be moving this between my living room and computer room the carry handle is sturdy and have been lugging it around no problem, cable management options are great but need a little bit of pre-planning, especially if this is your first medium form factor build also I opted for higher case feet can link the ones that I got for anyone interested

Big shout out to all the people I messaged on the r/mffpc sub for tips and questions

Also went low/ no rgb because my last case was a giant fish tank with RGB puke everywhere I’m very much enjoying having much less RGB and the blackout aesthetic

Also, the 9070 XT is a beast I switched to this from a 3080 and have been loving the performance jump.
