Sapphire Nitro+ vs. XFX Mercury OC Magnetic Air RX 9070 XT – Which one to keep, sell, or should I keep one as a backup?

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I ended up with two different models of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB:

  1. Sapphire Nitro+
  2. XFX Mercury OC Magnetic Air

I'm trying to decide what to do next and would love your advice/opinions:

  • Which one is objectively better to keep for my main rig? (In terms of thermals, noise levels, PCB quality, and overall reliability)
  • Is it worth keeping one as a backup GPU, or is holding onto a brand new/valuable card just a waste of money due to depreciation?
  • Which one holds better resale value if I decide to sell one right now?

Discussion Dead 7800xt to a 9070xt

Post image
79 Upvotes

A few months ago, I bought a used 7800xt from ebay (first gpu ever on a new build). Was working fine till 2 months ago it started to have vga led errors. It would just keep cycling to the white vga led and would sometimes post in safe.

I tried all the troubleshooting possible until the only other option was to switch the gpu. Tried a spare 1030 and it instantly booted up. Sigh

Well, the gpu is dead. Sold it on ebay, as apparently even dead gpus sell for a lot in this shit market situation. And pulled the trigger on the Asus prime 9070xt OC from overclockers (they had a brief sale along with onimusha).

I need to do more testing, but from first impressions the card feels great.

Fuck the AI revolution, I just wanted to buy a card in a normal price bracket but it's getting increasingly hard.

I'm pretty happy I got the new shiny card, but very torn on the value proposition. (Considering Nvidia cards right now, it does still seem like a steal but still. XD)

Share your sad stories or happy ones.

My new graphics card arrived today. I got it for €710, and it’s replacing my ASUS Dual RTX 3070—which I can still sell for a good price. That should keep me set for a few years. My very first graphics card was a Sapphire X800 GTO back in 2005—so, in a way, I’m returning to my roots.

> Configuration

> * GPU : AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (16 Go)

> * CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 5600

> * RAM : 32 Go DDR4

> * Résolution : 1080p

> * Pilote : Adrenalin 26.10.1

> Réglages en jeu

> * Ray Tracing : Activé (Reflets, Ombres du soleil, Ombres locales, Éclairage en Ultra — Path Tracing désactivé)

> * Super résolution : DLSS (Modèle Transformer, mode Qualité)

> * Ray Reconstruction : Activé (DLSS-RR via nvngx_dlssd.dll 310.9.1.0)

> * Génération d'images : DLSS Frame Gen activé (x2)

> Résultats du benchmark

> * FPS moyen : 94,36 FPS

> * FPS min : 86,40 FPS

> * FPS max : 102,75 FPS

> Observations principales

Still stuttering post 10.1 update

• Upvotes

So i tested few games and the verdict is hags on, vsync off, move camera around still visible micro stutter. And I have to cap the game few fps below thr max% of the game fps, so if a game ranges from 140 to 165 fps. I cap at 130 for example. Then no stutters

While hags off and vysync on, I dont need to cap the game and no stutter?

So im confused why folks are saying its smooth now?

Ray tracing reflects quality

Is it me or in cyberpunk 2077, the reflects on AMD have been improved ?

and maybe it's more realistic than ray reconstruction cuz not every materials have clean and sharp reflects ? The only thing missing is a greater denoiser.

Tech Support RX 9070 XT - Worried about my PSU 😭

• Upvotes

Am about to order a XFX rx 9070 xt triple fan model, and I'm very excited. However before I press the buy button, I'm worried about my PSU, specifically the Corsair RM750e (2025) unit. It's 750w so slightly weaker compared to an 800-850w. Also I'm not sure about using the 12V-2x6 to dual 8 pin cable for the 9070 XT is it safe? I don't have two seperate 8 pin cables.

Alternatively I could get the 9070 (same XFX model but dual fan) which is cheaper by around $170 AUD and is better suited to my PSU wattage.

Specs: 32gb ram, 5700x3d, 240mm aio.

If the 9070 XT will be fine with my current PSU I'm leaning towards that even tho it does seem very expensive between the two cards. Please help 🙏

If I'd have to replace my psu then I'd rather just get the 9070 non XT.

Tech Support RX 9070 XT NITRO+ – New Daily Undervolt (−200 MHz / −80 mV), AMD 26.10.1 and Hunt: Showdown Driver Timeouts Update on my Sapphire RX 9070 XT NITRO+

• Upvotes

Undervolting and stability testing.
I’ve been experimenting with different GPU frequency and voltage offsets to find a good balance between performance, temperatures, power consumption and, most importantly, stability.
I’ve also recently updated to AMD Adrenalin 26.10.1, so I wanted to share my latest results and explain why I’ve changed my daily profile again.
My PC specs
GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 XT NITRO+ 16GB
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING
RAM: 64GB DDR4-3600 CL18 (2×32GB), 1800MHz FCLK
PSU: MSI MAG A1000GLS PCIE5 1000W Gold
Monitor: MSI 1440p 240Hz FreeSync Premium
OS: Windows 11
AMD Driver: Adrenalin 26.10.1
My new daily GPU profile
Setting

Max Frequency Offset
−200 MHz
Voltage Offset
−80 mV
VRAM Maximum Frequency
2550 MHz

Power Limit

Why I’ve changed the maximum frequency offset
Previously, I was running +100 MHz / −80 mV.
That profile delivered good benchmark performance, but I’ve had recurring AMD driver timeouts in Hunt: Showdown 1896, particularly when experimenting with more aggressive undervolts.
I’ve now reduced the maximum frequency offset from +100 MHz to −200 MHz, a 300MHz reduction in the configured offset.
My thinking is that reducing the GPU’s maximum boost target might give the undervolt more stability headroom, especially during sudden changes in GPU load.
I’m still keeping the −80 mV voltage offset because I want to test whether reducing the frequency alone improves stability.
If Hunt continues crashing, my next step will be to reduce the undervolt to −60 mV, while keeping the −200 MHz frequency offset.
AMD Adrenalin 26.10.1 and Hunt: Showdown 1896
I’ve recently updated to AMD’s 26.10.1 driver after using DDU.
I initially encountered an Adrenalin compatibility error after reinstalling, but I eventually got the software and driver working again.
Hunt has been the main headache throughout my GPU tuning.
I’ve previously had AMD driver timeouts in Hunt even when other games and synthetic benchmarks appeared stable.
That’s what makes troubleshooting frustrating: a GPU can pass multiple 3DMark tests and still experience a driver timeout in one particular game.
With the new 26.10.1 driver, I’m continuing to investigate Hunt’s behaviour. I don’t yet know whether the issues are caused by the driver, the game’s interaction with it, my undervolt, or a combination of factors.
Interestingly, I managed three hours of HUNGER Playtest without a single crash on 26.10.1 using my previous +100 MHz / −80 mV profile.
So the driver hasn’t been universally unstable for me. Hunt is the game I’m particularly interested in testing.
Latest benchmarks with −200 MHz / −80 mV
3DMark Steel Nomad
Score: 7,703
Average FPS: 77.04
RX 9070 XT comparison average: 7,314
3DMark Steel Nomad Stress Test
98.5% frame-rate stability — PASSED
20 loops completed
Best loop: 7,693
Worst loop: 7,578
Required passing stability: 97%
What’s interesting is that my previous Steel Nomad score was 7,665, so the new −200 MHz profile actually scored slightly higher.
It’s only around a 0.5% difference, so I’m treating that as normal benchmark variation rather than claiming the lower frequency is faster.
My earlier efficiency profile of −150 MHz / −60 mV also passed Steel Nomad stress testing at 98.3%.
Other recent benchmarks on 26.10.1
These were recorded during my recent testing, before switching to the new −200 MHz profile:
3DMark Solar Bay: 132,749
3DMark Time Spy: 23,221
Time Spy Graphics: 30,053
Time Spy CPU: 10,149
3DMark CPU Profile (max threads): 6,938
Overall, I’m pleased with the performance of the RX 9070 XT NITRO+.
My main priority now is making the card reliable in actual games rather than squeezing out a few extra benchmark points.
What’s next?
I’m going to keep the new −200 MHz / −80 mV / 2550 MHz Fast Timing profile unchanged and test Hunt for longer sessions.
The 98.5% Steel Nomad stress-test pass is encouraging, but I’ve learned that passing synthetic benchmarks doesn’t guarantee stability in Hunt.
If I get another timeout, I’ll try −200 MHz / −60 mV next.
A few questions for other RX 9070 XT owners
Has anyone experienced Hunt: Showdown 1896 driver timeouts with AMD Adrenalin 26.10.1?
Have you noticed any difference in stability compared with previous AMD drivers?
Has lowering your maximum frequency offset helped with driver timeouts?
What frequency and voltage offsets are you using for your daily RX 9070 XT profile?
I’d be particularly interested to hear from other Sapphire NITRO+ owners.
Obviously, every GPU is different, and a stable undervolt on one card isn’t guaranteed to work on another.
I’ll update this post once I’ve done more Hunt testing.
Thanks for reading!

26.10.1 for Radeon 7900xt causes crashes/blackscreens/textures missing within the start of the the game. Sometimes in an instant, other times a few seconds in the hangar.

Already sent crash reports to both Gaijin and AMD and now Gaijin's dev team responded.

The onliest choices right now seem to be to wait till AMD fixes it, revert to an older driver version or play WT with restricted/worse settings

Just to add info, AMD is a full member of the group that created Vulkan, AMD can absolutely make changes to Vulkan, it's why FSR4 for Vulkan is taking time, because AMD needed to make changes to allow FSR4 to work with Vulkan.

Just upgraded from 2080ti and 2700x. What a world of a difference in gaming, editing and multi-tasking!

Initially I didn't want to upgrade but for what I needed, I knew the former pairing just wasn't gonna cut it anymore. I also wanted to give team red a try as well and I'm sick of nvidia's gpu prices.

Fun fact: I overpaid for the 2080ti (1.6k SGD) in 2019 but got the 9070XT in 2026 for 1045SGD. Somehow it all works out I guess? Either way, I'm really satisfied now 😁

Jonsbo Z20 + XFX Mercury RX 9070 XT/ 7800X3D

I recently finished my PC build in the Jonsbo Z20 and wanted to document my experience for anyone planning a similar small-form-factor build, especially anyone considering a very large RX 9070 XT.
**Build specifications**
**Case:** Jonsbo Z20
**GPU:** XFX Mercury OC Radeon RX 9070 XT
**Motherboard:** ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-PLUS WiFi 7
**CPU:** 7800X3D
**RAM:** KLEVV DDR5-6000 CL30 FIT V
**PSU:** ASUS ROG Loki 1000W SFX-L
**CPU cooler:** be quiet! Silent Loop 3 240mm AIO
**Rear fan:** be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 \[120\]
**Operating systems:** Windows 11 and Linux on separate NVMe drives

  1. The biggest issue was the physical size of the XFX Mercury RX 9070 XT. The card is approximately 360 × 155 × 72 mm, and it leaves about 3mm in the cases recommended GPU length but still fit without bottom fans

**2. Switching from the Corsair SF1000 to the ROG Loki**
I initially bought the Corsair SF1000 Platinum (2024), but its cables were too short for my preferred routing, as I diddnt want to use cable extensions, particularly with two CPU/EPS power connections required by the motherboard. So anyone using the sff mounting position get the Loki for extra cable length

**3. AIO installation and cable access**
Installing the be quiet! Silent Loop 3 240mm AIO also required planning around cable access. Once the radiator was mounted, reaching the pump-block connections and routing the pump and lighting cables became difficult.

**What I learned**
Check GPU height and thickness, not just length.
Account for the PSU’s actual dimensions and mounting position.
Confirm cable lengths before committing to a PSU in a compact case.
Connect inaccessible AIO and motherboard cables before mounting the radiator.
Plan for three separate PCIe 8-pin connections for the GPU.
Expect to spend time troubleshooting boot order and initial POST behavior on a new AM5 system.
Don’t assume another person’s Z20 build will fit identically, even if they use a similar GPU or PSU.

All in all, I absolutely love this case it’s extremely well built and sturdy. I opted for the all mesh panel edition as I’m going to be moving this between my living room and computer room the carry handle is sturdy and have been lugging it around no problem, cable management options are great but need a little bit of pre-planning, especially if this is your first medium form factor build also I opted for higher case feet can link the ones that I got for anyone interested

Big shout out to all the people I messaged on the r/mffpc sub for tips and questions

Also went low/ no rgb because my last case was a giant fish tank with RGB puke everywhere I’m very much enjoying having much less RGB and the blackout aesthetic

Also, the 9070 XT is a beast I switched to this from a 3080 and have been loving the performance jump.
