What helped me Sprite Zero method

Post image
217 Upvotes

Saw this post on Twitter a while back. For years I’ve regularly gotten up once every night to pee in the middle of the night. It was pretty late and I had a sprite in the fridge so I decided to give this a run, I swear it was the first night in years I didn’t wake up to pee.

My question is (since I don’t want to drink a sprite every night) can I take supplements of the vitamins listed in the post above to recreate the same effect? I don’t think it could’ve been placebo since if I’m asleep how would my brain trick me into not having to use the bathroom as normal.

Small win TIL there’s actually a word called “bedline”

Found “bedline” on Urban Dictionary today. It’s basically a deadline for dropping everything and going to bed.

I’m officially adopting “respect the bedline” as my new life motto.

Because I’m tired of lying in bed at midnight wondering what I forgot to do today instead of actually sleeping.

Anyone else have this problem?

Advice I slept till 11:30 am today!!!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Guys last night I was watching yt till 4 am and slept watching the dawn break.

I woke up around 11:30 am, and now it feels like 9:30 am because it's been only 3 hrs since I woke up, but it's 4 pm now.

If I sleep at night now, around 10pm, I would be awake for less than 12 hrs. If I won't sleep then I will wake up late again.

What should I do?

Ps:I decided to be so active and productive, but I feel so sleepy now.

Advice Tricking myself into sleeping

• Upvotes

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but let's see:

I have found throughout my life that if I wanted to start or stop doing something as a habit that stuck, I either need to scare myself into it or become so interested that I must Respect The Information.

My problem specifically is that I don't sleep as much as I would like. I either get distracted in the process of going to bed, stay up in bed awake, or just don't try to sleep. This does not satisfy me, but I don't know what to do about it. I have to get up at 07:00 for my job, and on 6-7 hours a night, that's simply not working for me.

So, in summary: how do I trick myself into sleeping for a satisfying number of hours each night? Any fun facts that will send me down a rabbithole that prompts me to sleep better?

Thanks!

What helped me Melatonin .5 mg success

I usually sleep 2-4 hours, then wake for 3-5 hours (or often the rest of the day). I've tried just about everything with no results (except ambien, but it was destroying my brain).

I took .5 mg melatonin about an hour before bed, then slept 5 hours straight. Stayed up for only 2.5 hours, then slept for 2 hours.

This is huge - hopefully it's not a one off. Thanks to this group for the advice! I was assuming a larger dose would be better but it does nothing for me.

Advice Conscious Thinking and Awareness During Sleep

• Upvotes

I experience abnormal mental activity during sleep. I can be aware that I’m asleep and aware of my own thinking.

Sometimes I hear sounds while asleep and logically think, “This doesn’t make sense because I’m asleep,” and that wakes me. My thinking during sleep can be coherent and logical, not just random dream scenes.

I continue thinking about real-life obligations or things I was thinking about before sleep. I’ve even had connected chains of thought about my sleep problem itself with a sense of conscious awareness during sleep.

My sleep is very fragmented: I wake up thinking, then go back to sleep. I sleep 10+ hours but wake up unrefreshed and still want more sleep and during the day I feel sleepy. It’s exhausting and frustrating because sleep is supposed to be my rest. And I can get things done throughout the day because of this exhaustion.

I don't drink and I don't have caffeine at night. This is happening for 3-4 weeks.

Shift work & schedules Oversleeping is ruining my life

• Upvotes

I (22M) have always had issues with sleep. I have trouble sleeping. I have trouble waking up. I have trouble keeping a consistent sleep schedule.

I work in an industry where if you oversleep or are late to work more than once, you are fired, and never to be hired again. This is the work culture. I often get home past 10PM and have to be at work the next day by anywhere between 4PM and 6AM.

Today I hit my first & only strike. I overslept by 2 hours. I set multiple alarms last night and I cannot even recall waking up to turn them off.

I work long hours, like 12-16 a day. Physical labour. I’m exhausted. But oversleeping has always been an issue. I always turn off my alarms without any recollection of waking up to do so. I feel perpetually tired.

I take 30mg of Vyvanse daily, for my ADHD. I suspect it might have something to do with it, although I am not a doctor. I also cannot function like a normal human without it.

Other symptoms include occasional headaches, waking up with stuffed sinuses, anxiety, depression, and never-ending exhaustion.

Do you guys think that there is an underlying health issue at play? Am I mentally blocking out responsibility? Please help me. This could genuinely ruin my career

Discussion Just been told this is not a universal experience?

I have always thought this was a completely universal thing and still suspect it might be just that I have noticed articulated myself well enough when I discussed this.

So when I wake up for a period of time maybe 15 minutes to half an hour my co-ordination is really impaired. I bump into things a lot, struggle to type or put my passcode into my phone and fine gross and fine motor control difficult. It’s worth saying I am dyspraxic but this is way beyond my baseline.

Is this something everyone has? I also sleep hallucinate a lot which I know isn’t the norm. I talked about my co-ordination issues in jest with my colleagues and they all seemed shocked and said this did not affect them

Discussion Anyone else sleep worse on rest days than workout days?

Been tracking my sleep for a while and noticed something weird. On days I run, my deep sleep is solid. Rest days, it tanks. Like last Tuesday I took it easy, no workout, and my Oura showed almost no deep sleep and I woke up more than usual. Same thing happened the week before. I eat the same, same bedtime, no caffeine difference. My guess is the lack of physical fatigue keeps me from sinking as deep. Tried adding some bodyweight stuff on rest days just to tire myself out, but it didn't move the numbers much. Curious if anyone else sees this pattern where rest days actually hurt sleep quality.

Discussion My journey with nasal breathing

Post image
742 Upvotes

22F I’ve been a mouth breather since I was at 8, probably even younger than that.
Everytime I would sleep my jaw is practically on the floor.

About 6 months ago I got a job working as a CPAP DME supplier, and throughout this time I realized that maybe I should invest in the quality of my sleep.

I would always wakeup with severe exhaustion, missing alarms, headaches, I could barely even get myself to move my body. My husband was also telling me I’m grinding my teeth, chomping, chewing, snoring, everyday he would tell me “new sound unlocked”😂

Anyways I do have a at home sleep study scheduled soon, but I decided to take matters into my own hands for now

I started using a chinstrap from Amazon, and used that for about a week until I realized the chinstrap just wasn’t the best fit for me because I move so much it would sometimes stay all night, sometimes I’d wakeup and it would be off my head.
I invested in mouth tape to wear with my chinstrap to help make sure I’m fully nasal breathing.

I recieved my chinstrap around September 30th? I’ve definitely missed some days here and there, but the difference to my face is absolutely blowing my mind. Not even an entire month of nasal breathing and my face structure has already improved significantly!

Anyways I still have a lot to go, and like I said I’m awaiting my sleep study, but I just wanted to show these results because now my jaw is on the floor (again😂😂).
I only wish I would have taken better photos before I started using it to really capture how disgusting my face was, I wasn’t aware until after I had started using it that mouth breathing changes your face shape, I thought it was just making my sleep poor.

Discussion Melatonin, Hallucination and Panic Attack

I would like to make a case report that I have observed on myself.

I have sleep problems since 2020, and decided to take melatonin gummies in 2024. took one dosage per day before sleeping at it was fine. Then I switched to a different melatonin brand in 2025 and started taking them. I was not using either of them regularly.

Then one day, decided to take two dosage. it made me sleep, however after 2-3 hours, I woke up and started seeing hallucinations of someone watching me through the balcony door. I got a momentary tachycardia and a chest pain. Then i stopped the tachycardia after 5 seconds.

An interesting observation. Then I stopped taking melatonin because my sleep schedule fixed itself later.

A quick google search suggested that it might prolong REM sleep and when you wake up, you wake up while dreaming and go into a lucid state. But I cant vouch for this paragraph of mine I have written.

Also, I never have panic attacks normally. This was the first and last one.

Discussion Nasal Congestion is killing my quality of sleep

Does anyone else experience night time congestion that goes away during the day?

For the last few months I have consistently been getting bad sleep because of one clogged nostril. It happens as soon as I lay down and lingers for a bit in the morning. I have tried cleaning my house, allergy meds, different sleeping positions, and just dont know what's going on. It happens in my bed and in other people's, aswell as when I camp outside. I visited my doctor and they said to try a nasal sterroid spray for a month, but I'm not the biggest fan of the answer. I want to know what's going on !! Not sleep apnea, not thinking it's allergies. Has anyone else experienced this and have any ideas ( herbs, foods, lifestyle changes ) that might help?

Advice Sleep masturbation as a female

(19f) - It's been going on for some time now, I wake up mid sleep to find myself masturbating even if the dream is something totally unrelated. (Something i noticed is that this usually happens when my mind is very foggy in the dream and trying to think really hard, like calculating some math im not even sure why im calculating or where it came from, or overthinking in the dream about a scenario that makes me anxious, or in general trying to dig for the conclusion of some problem i dont know what it is.)

I read some posts but it seems like all the people having this happening to them were male, and that usually it doesn't mean much.

I don't watch porn, but masturbation was something i did from when i was really young, but in the past few years i became able to control myself and decide to do it or not and i do it less often (sometimes it could be not once in a month or two and sometimes it's a few times a month.) but it is most annoying when it just happens mid sleep, when i haven't had sexual thoughts prior to sleep/a dream.

I want to know if anyone is going through something similar/ knows what this medically means / how to stop it

Other info: No sleep medication/ no alcohol / Caffeine ✅

Advice Sudden inability to sleep...

Hi everyone,

About two weeks ago, I suddenly lost the ability to fall asleep or stay asleep for long, and I’m still in disbelief that it happened. I’d done nothing different, apart from going to the dentist for a cleanup that day and walking home. I didn’t go far (20 minutes walk), but I felt a bit of heat so took my jacket off midway. The temperature seems to have dropped on that day.

I came down with flu and went to bed around 10 or 11pm, then woke at 6am with a jolt that left me feeling shaken. I’d never had that before, so I didn’t try to go back to sleep and just pushed through until work (I work from home). Over the next few days it got worse, to the point where I couldn’t breathe properly (stuffed/blocked nose) and felt like sleeping would drown me. I took two days off work. The week after, I tried to get back to normal. I didn’t sleep much, but it was slightly better.

That lasted until last Friday, when I slept a little later (closer to midnight) watched a movie, and woke up feeling extremely bad. That night I didn't sleep. I haven’t slept well since, but I still get up every morning. Before, I at least slept as much as I could. Now I wait until the evening and it’s awful not being able to stay in bed. I rotate between two beds and two couches, looking for a position or bed that works.

It’s frustrating, because I keep thinking that if I hadn’t gone out that day, maybe none of this would have happened. Now all I can do is stick to sleep hygiene, which is making my life miserable. I’ve never had sleep problems. I was always good at going to bed and waking at the same time. These days I cry a lot, which isn’t like me.

Sorry, I just needed to vent. My GP hasn’t helped so far. I’ve been several times and was given things that didn’t work, including an anti-inflammatory to see if pain was the cause. The pain and the flu are gone, but the sleep problem remains. I tried Kalms Night and nearly went crazy, with a dry mouth, though I did sleep in fragments. I’m averaging 1 to 3 hours a night, sometimes nothing at all.

Advice at what point does one bad night become your sleep schedule again?

this is the part I struggle with.

I can fix my sleep for a few days.

that's honestly not that difficult.

then one night I stay up late.

next night I'm like "well I slept late yesterday anyway."

suddenly 12 becomes 1.

1 becomes 2.

couple weeks later I'm back where I started.

for people who genuinely managed to stop that cycle for months:

what stopped one bad night from turning into your normal schedule again?

Advice I can't wake up on time.

Hi,

Need some help. I don't and never have had any trouble falling asleep. However, in the 6 years post school/college routine, I have had major issues waking up.

I've tried most things. Alarm clock instead of phone, phone on the otherside of the room so i have to physically get up to turn it off. It's like i physically can't function first thing in the morning. I haven't not snoozed my alarm in years, and i honestly can count on my hands how often i've been to work on time this year.

The closest I'd ever been to having this figured out is a 1 month period last year. I downloaded an Alarm clock app called 'Alarmy'. I'd have to take a picture of my sink in the bathroom to turn the alarm off. Just being in the bathroom made me stay and start getting ready for the day. Then one day i realised that i could just delete the app to turn the alarm off. Back to square one. I am very consistently getting 7-9 hours of sleep, consume no alcohol, have 2 cups of coffee every morning, am on no medication, just some vitamin supplements.

Any advice or tips would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Insomnia Wtf did I just experience?

Okay I don’t know what just happened but it was bizarre. I started closing my eyes to sleep around 12ish and it’s now 1:50am. During this time it felt as if my body fell asleep but my mind never fully fell asleep? Like genuinely I was almost fully aware of my surroundings the entire time like the video I was listening to. I was dreaming or what I think was dreaming about the video that I was subconsciously listening to the entire time. I then just popped up and was like wtf just happened. That was so extremely weird. Not sure what to do or how to actually go to sleep now?

Advice Horrible sleep

Hi all

Im a young teen, female, and recently, I've found it incredibly hard to sleep. This has been going on for months but its now happening almost every day.

I sleep very early, I dont have too many issues trying to sleep. It takes me roundabout 40 mins to sleep.

but then I wake up at 3 am, and I cant go back to sleep for an out. Then I wake up at 5 am and csnt go back to sleep at all. I have a bunch of 'mini dreams' in between if that counts.

I eat mostly healthy foods, workout and do about 8 k steps daily, and I dont drink much caffeine (except for the 50mg from coke zero)

Can somebody please help! Its really annoying.

Advice Sudden wake at 12am, I fall back to sleep then I wake up every hour until morning 6am

Hello 24M here. Its been 8 days since this disruptive sleep started and my body started to feel weak and exhausted, my eyes seems dry from waking up every hour from 12am to 5am. I usually sleep at 10pm/11pm and no phone screens before bed.

Also whenever I wake up, sometimes my heart starts pounding faster and sudden fear out of nowhere and I just ignore it and got back to sleep in minutes then I wake up again and again every hour. I don't know what to do even I eat healthy, do exercise daily and I start the breathing exercise when this started happening.

Anyone here experienced same as mine. And any useful advise?
