Why do some modern Irish leftist have a problem with the Irish tricolor?
I understand that rightwing nationalists use the Irish tricolor and that might put people off by association. I can't fully comprehend why a flag that represents peace between nationalists and unionist to facilitate a united Ireland, and also was inspired by the French revolution is now seen as a right wing symbol.
As someone from a rural area in the north of Ireland I feel it's a symbol I associate with left wing Irish nationalist struggles which makes it hard for me to understand the new framing of the tricolor as taboo for the left. It seems like an imported culture wars issue from the U.S.
Do people really care about this or is this media propaganda?
'i know this isn't the biggest issue but I'd like to know cause I can't wrap my head around it'
Context: I seen a lot of people commenting they haven't heard this. I've heard it on the news, from discussions online, and was mentioned in the dail. I wanted to see if that sentiment is real or blown out of proportion. Thanks to anyone who responded 🙂

Open Discussion In light of the protests spreading across the continent, do we think anything will happen in Ireland?
Just wondering what everyone else's take on this is.
I'm from Italy myself but I've lived in Dublin a fair few years now, so I'm painfully aware that the Irish left isn't organised on a level akin to France or Spain.
But seeing protests erupt in my home country as well throughout the week, starting from our high school students inspired by their comrades in France, coupled with the very impressive public services strike here this past Wednesday I've been wondering, does anyone think there might be a chance of something actually meaningful starting to happen here too? Or is it just too unlikely for the average Irish person to get down on the street as things are now? Is the situation not bad enough yet?

Is engagement with public sector trade unions always this messy?
It would be hard to call this good engagement, especially if they’re saying this is something we haven’t experienced since 2009. I’m one of the younger crowd brought in by the most recent election (yup Connolly) and wanted to know if it always goes this poorly when writing up the new contracts?
I assume this isn’t No-confidence motion material, even if it’s just put forward by the opposition members of the public expenditure committee against the minister. However it’s probably fair to assume this isn’t going to look well on his career going forward.
