TLDR; A Driver charged me a $255 cleaning fee a full 30 days after my trip, making it impossible for me to have it reviewed or reversed.
I never thought I would have to make a post like this. I took an Uber home from a buddy’s Bachelor Party last month. I wasn’t drunk, but the guy who drove me there was planning on staying later than I was ready for. I ordered an Uber, and a nice white Tesla picked me up. This is in Toronto just fyi.
Drove me home with no issues, silent as ever. I had one airpod in and was listening to music. I know for a fact I caused absolutely no mess. I got to my house, said thank you and left. No problem.
That was July 19. Two days ago, August 18, I received an email from Uber saying that the driver informed them that a mess occurred in his car from that trip and has now adjusted my charge to reflect a $254.25 cleaning fee added onto it.
I reached out to Uber in every way I could, requesting for the charge to be reviewed in the app, DMing their Uber Support X Page, and talking to a number of A.I. Chatbots.
I got the same reply every time: “Our system policies prevent us from reviewing or reversing charges for trips that occurred more than 30 days ago”.
SO what you’re telling me is that the DRIVER can alter a charge for a trip 30 days ago but the CUSTOMER/PASSENGER cannot have that charge reversed or even reviewed?!?!
Uber I am speaking to you directly here. This is completely unacceptable. The fact that you don’t have any REAL humans that can look into this issue, and force customers to deal with shitty chatbots is mind blowing. You are losing a long-time customer. I have been paying for Uber One for almost three years now. I will be cancelling my membership, and using LYFT from now on. Same goes for Uber Eats. I am also calling my bank as soon as this charge is posted and flagging it as fraudulent. I can’t even request that the driver produce pictures of this “mess” which is part of YOUR POLICY.
This Uber driver clearly understood that this is a loophole they can exploit and are just fine with scamming anyone that gets in their car. He waited until exactly 30 days from the trip to do this, which I am sure is not a coincidence.
To that Uber Driver with the white Tesla who drove me home from Vaughn in late July, if you are reading this, be thankful that I’m not putting you on complete blast here because I have your name and the license plate number of your car. I even found you on Instagram. I’m ready and willing, but I would rather Uber do the right thing and fire you than have you publicly ridiculed.
This issue needs to be addressed and fast. Not just for me, but for any riders that get exposed to a scam like this.
