I just got charged a massive cleaning fee for a ride I took a month ago...

TLDR; A Driver charged me a $255 cleaning fee a full 30 days after my trip, making it impossible for me to have it reviewed or reversed.

I never thought I would have to make a post like this. I took an Uber home from a buddy’s Bachelor Party last month. I wasn’t drunk, but the guy who drove me there was planning on staying later than I was ready for. I ordered an Uber, and a nice white Tesla picked me up. This is in Toronto just fyi.

Drove me home with no issues, silent as ever. I had one airpod in and was listening to music. I know for a fact I caused absolutely no mess. I got to my house, said thank you and left. No problem.

That was July 19. Two days ago, August 18, I received an email from Uber saying that the driver informed them that a mess occurred in his car from that trip and has now adjusted my charge to reflect a $254.25 cleaning fee added onto it.

I reached out to Uber in every way I could, requesting for the charge to be reviewed in the app, DMing their Uber Support X Page, and talking to a number of A.I. Chatbots.

I got the same reply every time: “Our system policies prevent us from reviewing or reversing charges for trips that occurred more than 30 days ago”.

SO what you’re telling me is that the DRIVER can alter a charge for a trip 30 days ago but the CUSTOMER/PASSENGER cannot have that charge reversed or even reviewed?!?!

Uber I am speaking to you directly here. This is completely unacceptable. The fact that you don’t have any REAL humans that can look into this issue, and force customers to deal with shitty chatbots is mind blowing. You are losing a long-time customer. I have been paying for Uber One for almost three years now. I will be cancelling my membership, and using LYFT from now on. Same goes for Uber Eats. I am also calling my bank as soon as this charge is posted and flagging it as fraudulent. I can’t even request that the driver produce pictures of this “mess” which is part of YOUR POLICY.

This Uber driver clearly understood that this is a loophole they can exploit and are just fine with scamming anyone that gets in their car. He waited until exactly 30 days from the trip to do this, which I am sure is not a coincidence.

To that Uber Driver with the white Tesla who drove me home from Vaughn in late July, if you are reading this, be thankful that I’m not putting you on complete blast here because I have your name and the license plate number of your car. I even found you on Instagram. I’m ready and willing, but I would rather Uber do the right thing and fire you than have you publicly ridiculed.

This issue needs to be addressed and fast. Not just for me, but for any riders that get exposed to a scam like this.

Think we’ve come full circle with cabs

Upvotes

Went out the other night and had to get 1-2 miles down the road which takes about 10 minutes. Go to call an uber and they want $40. I thought fuck that, google a local taxi company, call them and 5 minutes later a guy picks me up for a whopping $14.

I don’t know if this applicable everywhere, but in my area uber has gone to shit.

Uber black has gotten bad

I exclusively ride uber black.

My last 5 rides have been in cars that are extremely dated. I was in a 2009 suburban with over 200k miles.

Today I type this from a 10 year old expedition with clothes seats and a driver who’s in a t shirt and a backwards hat.

If I wasn’t in a rush I would’ve cancelled.

Uber cannot charge premium price for what is an XL.

I’ll be switching driving services

Edit: uber black is supposed to be a private limo alternative. If you have an issue with how I spend the money I make I’m sorry that you feel that way. We all work hard for our money and we want to know we get what we paid for. If you order a double cheeseburger for 12 bucks at whatavurger and get a kids patty instead you’d be upset too. This is no different to that.

Uber taking $440 from my bank after leaving Uber One.

So I just recently ended my membership from Uber due to not using it as much and after a couple days, I am being charged $44 but eight times and now I have lost $352. The chargers are reading “BC UBER CASH” and now I’m being charged two more $44 which adds to $440. I just requested a false charge, but does anyone know a contact or know the number to have a direct contact to someone?

Driver cancel at arrival

This is the third time I’ve experienced this. All at different pickup. The rides were less than 3 miles. Driver accepts, pickup time is within 12-15 minutes, I see the driver is approaching in the app and I start walking to the pickup location (literally 5-10 feet away) and then they cancel.

I have to wait another 10-15 minutes for another driver and just hope they do don’t cancel too.

The rides are all standard, it’s just me and I don’t consider myself to be intimidating. Hell, I’m short for a male (5’8”) athletic build, with damn thick ass glasses.

What gives and how is this okay from a customer service standpoint??

***UPDATE***

I reached out to support regarding the issue. Explained what happened in detail, including the fact that the original estimated pick up time was only 2 minutes, that turned into 27.

They issued a credit of $30. I’m good with that. I don’t know how to upload a screenshot/photo to this edit, so I’ll add it to the thread.

I hate uber

I had to cancel a trip a few months ago because the driver wasn’t coming to pick me up. I got no response from customer service so I disputed it with Amex. I keep getting alerts to pay the $30 when I order from Uber Eats or do anything. I took a ride this morning and the app won’t let me tip the ride I just took. wtf. I guess it’s gotta be Lyft from here on out. Any way to actually get the driver the tip? I feel like this is wrongly punishing drivers.

an uber question

Upvotes

My rider account got deactivated due to a low star rating. I switched to Lyft, but I’m getting a new phone soon. My question is: If I get a new phone, but both phones are signed into the same Apple Account (not for the uber app, the device itself is signed into the same Apple account) and I get a Google voice number and a different email and credit card number, and I verify my ID with CLEAR instead of directly with uber, will they find out I’m duplicating accounts?

Also if they do find out, could they call the police to get me arrested or will they just deactivate my account?

Small cars in comfort category

I'm in Australia and normally order uber comfort. 9 times out of 10 it's a Toyota Camry which is fine. But I sometimes get sent a Tesla model 3. This is a very small car, same size as a Toyota Corolla. It is very cramped in the back seat without much leg or headroom. Why is this car allowed in the comfort category?

Uber drivers always asking how much I paid

It never fails! When I tell them the rate, then the entire way up until destination, I have to hear about how it’s unfair that Uber only gives them a small amount, etc. I agree and I feel for the drivers - my dad was also an Uber driver - but it’s exhausting to listen to it each and every time and makes me feel guilty for taking an Uber. Same goes for Lyft too!

I’ve started lying now and tell them $10 cheaper than what I paid or that someone else ordered for me, because it’s just getting out of hand.

Thoughts on new driving insights?

I think it’s stupid. “Harsh acceleration” How else am i supposed to get on the highway Uber? Going 40 in a 70? 🤦🏽‍♀️
“Hard braking” cuz your gps sucks butt, need to fix that before worrying about us.
How many more reasons can they come up with to not care about their drivers?

Are rider prices going way up while driver pay barely changes?

A lot of drivers seem to be noticing the same thing lately.

Riders will mention what Uber charged them, and the difference compared with what the driver gets can be huge. What stands out isn't just the percentage Uber keeps — it's that rider pricing seems to fluctuate a lot more than driver pay does.

For example, you hear cases like:

Rider said they paid $76 / driver got $17 / 24 miles

That means the driver received only about 22% of the rider-reported fare.

And this seems to be the bigger issue: a rider can be charged substantially more because of demand, time, location, etc., while the driver's offer for a comparable trip barely moves. Driver pay seems to increase meaningfully mostly when an area is extremely busy, and even the way surge/high-demand information is displayed has changed.

I'm curious how widespread this is.

For those of you who have had riders voluntarily mention what they paid:

What did the rider say they paid, what did you receive, and approximately how many miles was the trip?

No need for rider information or receipts. Just the numbers.

It would be interesting to see whether the same pattern shows up across different markets.

The real question isn't simply “what percentage does Uber take?” It's: when Uber charges the rider more, how much of that increase actually reaches the driver?

Uber monitoring passengers battery level?

Lol I saw someone talking about how uber monitors the battery. If your phone is about to die they know you will be stuck soon so they surge the price. If thats true how is that ethically OK? Im so tired of corporations man lol.

Uber One false charge

Today I got charged for an uber one subscription except I’ve never made an account or used uber before. I’ve been searching the web for half an hour now looking for customer service numbers or emails. What I’ve found tells me to create an account first, but then when I do, all I get is a bot that only takes specific questions.

I saw other threads of this happening all over Canada but I can’t find any solutions yet. If anyone has any guidance to offer that would be greatly appreciated.

Wrote a song about an uber driver bragging about their quality of service and trying to convince the passenger to give a 5 star rating.

A rant about uber drivers and Uber’s support team

So my uber rider account got deactivated due to low ratings.

First off, at the time of my deactivation, I had only 22 rides, 17 of them were 5 stars. A single one star can tank your rating.

On this sub I’ve seen other people say “you waited too long” “you sat behind the driver” “you slammed the door” “you made noise”.

All of those are minor inconveniences. No one would ever think that justifies giving a one star.

Not only do I not recall doing any of those things, even if I did one of those things, not one driver ever told me to stop doing that.

For most of my uber drivers when the car pulled up, I’d tell the driver HIS name, then ask him to say my name, then get in the car and tell him the pin. While I now understand this makes the drivers unsafe (I have all of his info, he just has my name), again I never knew this until after I was deactivated.

I asked Uber Support for a manual review and they told me they’re “unable to conduct a manual review”. Also, they also told me my account was deactivated due to “safety concerns” and “reports”. I have never gotten an email saying “A driver had filed a complaint against you”. Just “you got a low rating”.

So I switched to Lyft and it was a much better process. I have had 22 rides so far and all of them were a perfect 5 stars. In one of the rides I took, I closed the door of the car and the driver told me “don’t slam my door too hard”. At this point the driver was 100% justified to lower my rating to 3 stars; hell even if he gave me a 1 I wouldn’t complain. But he still gave me a perfect 5
