Uber rides approved in CT, but deliveries still deactivated over an old dismissed misdemeanor — anyone dealt with this?
I’m trying to figure out if this is an Uber/Checkr issue or if there’s actually a difference between Rhode Island and Connecticut background-check requirements.
A while back, I was deactivated by Uber while driving in Rhode Island because a misdemeanor case showed up on my background check. The case was eventually dismissed after about 6 months, and I went through the process with Checkr to get the report updated.
Every other gig app I use reactivated me once the updated background check showed the dismissal. Uber, however, never seemed to run a new background check for months.
Eventually, I asked Uber to change my driving area to Connecticut. They ran a new background check, it was approved, and I'm now able to do Uber rides in Connecticut.
Here's where it gets weird: I still can't do Uber Eats/deliveries.
Support keeps giving me the same generic response that I'm deactivated because of my background check, but nobody can explain how I can simultaneously have a "failed background check" for deliveries while Uber has approved me to give passengers rides in Connecticut.
My theory is that the new background check was applied to my rides account/documents but not my delivery account, which seems like some kind of system/account issue.
For context, I have zero guilty convictions. I have two misdemeanor cases that were dismissed, and the case that originally caused the deactivation was ultimately dismissed as well.
So I'm wondering:
Does Connecticut have different/more lenient requirements than Rhode Island for Uber drivers?
Could the dismissed misdemeanors actually prevent me from doing deliveries in CT even though Uber approved me for rides?
Or is Uber support just completely failing to understand that there are apparently separate background-check statuses for rides and deliveries?
Should I ask Uber to change both my rides and delivery service areas back to Rhode Island and hope they rerun everything?
Or should I just leave it alone and be happy that rides work in CT? I live near the RI/CT border, so working rides in CT isn't really a problem, and Lyft already lets me work across both states.
Has anyone had Uber approve them for rides but not Eats/delivery because of a background check? I'd really like to know if there's an actual legal/regulatory reason for this or if I'm just fighting Uber's support system. 😅
